Student Design Competition The Student Home Design Competition will be held at the Connecticut Convention Center during the Connecticut Home & Remodeling Show, February 9 – 11, 2024. For 76 years the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Central Connecticut has held a Student Home Design contest as part of the Connecticut Home & Remodeling Show. Starting in 1948, the Student Home Design Competition allows students from all Connecticut high schools the opportunity to demonstrate their creative and technical skills and to be recognized for their talents. Additionally, they are provided with the opportunity to win scholarships and awards. ]The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Central Connecticut sponsors the Student Home Design Competition for students in grades 9 – 12 that are enrolled in design or drafting courses in public and technical high schools across the state. Each year, more than 100 students from across the state compete in this competition. Each student must include a scale model home with presentation drawings that meet specific criteria.
This year’s criteria are to design a three bedroom home not to exceed 2,000 square feet of floor space and the students must include three National Association of Home Builders Model Green Building Guidelines.

Economic & Political Update Dr. Robert Dietz, NAHB Chief Economist & Lake Coulson, NAHB Chief Lobbyist Dr. Dietz will provide an economic update focusing on national economic issues and trends. Lake Coulson Lake Coulson is a dedicated government affairs professional with more than 20 years of policy and management experience, Coulson was appointed to be NAHB’s Chief Lobbyist earlier this year. Lake oversees its federal, state and local Lake Coulson lobbying, as well as guiding the activities of NAHB’s political action committee, BUILD-PAC, and its grassroots network. For the past 11 years, Coulson has represented NAHB on Capitol Hill in a senior management position as Vice President of Government Affairs. The Parade of Homes is a scattered site tour of new and remodeled homes throughout Central Connecticut. The Parade is the Connecticut’s premier home tour that showcases homes of all styles and price points. There will be more than 25 homes open to potential home-buyers and the general public on October 19 & 20, 2024.
