am excited you are joining us for the 2020 Parade of Homes presented by the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Central Connecticut. Like many things this year, the Parade looks a little different as our builders take every precaution to provide a safe event complying with the COVID rules below. You may be interested in the latest trends in home building and design, looking for the perfect new home to move right into or looking to be inspired for a renovation project. You can find all of that, and much more on the Parade of Homes. You are invited to step inside and explore a variety of home styles ranging from innovative to elegant, and at prices ranging from the $200,000’s to almost $2 million. We are excited to showcase the latest in new home construction and new communities as well as fully renovated homes. It has been revised and added onto numerous times over its life. The currant owners have re-imaged this house in 3 phases. The first phase consisted of structural, mechanical, and electrical upgrades to bring the house to current standards. Originally 3 separate rooms, the present kitchen and living room are combined into one

space. The kitchen is designed to have a “furniture� feel to blend more comfortably with the living area. The wood siding was repaired and painted, and the front porch was rebuilt to preserve the integrity of the architecture. The second phase consists of a new 3 car garage/barn that replaces a dilapidated 1 car garage. The new garage retains the original barn door facing the street, while providing modern garage doors on the side for everyday use. This space was designed to accommodate 2 car liftsmaking it possible to store 5 vehicles. The garage was sited to leave the largest view possible of the back yard on this narrow lot. Checklist for Finding and Hiring a Builder or Remodeler Use this checklist to help you select a home builder or home remodeler to work on or build your home. • Contact the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Central Connecticut for the names of member builders and remodelers. Search our members at hbracentralct.com. You can also ask family, friends or coworkers for recommendations. • Make sure the builder or home remodeler has a permanent business location and a good reputation with local banks and suppliers. • Find out how long they have been in the building business. It usually takes three to five years to establish a financially sound business. You want to make sure they will be around after the construction is complete to service any warranties.

Keep in mind that less expensive does not necessarily mean better! • Verify that your remodeler is an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Renovator if you are planning work in a pre-1978 home that will disturb more than six square feet of painted surfaces inside the home or 20 square feet on the exterior of the home.
