PONY TAILS

APRIL 2025

A Letter from Alice

Hello readers!

Unfortunately, it is with a heavy heart that I, Alice the Pony, announce that I am quitting Pony Tails. This will be the last ever issue of the magazine.

...

Just kidding! Happy April Fools!

And yippee - Spring has officially sprung! Let’s celebrate the warmer weather with an awesome new issue of the Pony Tails Kids Club digital magazine! I hope you enjoy this month’s games, stories, facts, and activities.

Hoppy Easter folks - and don’t forget to pet your pony while you ’ re out hunting for eggs!

Signed,

Alice the Pony

Don’t let their height fool you... what miniature horses lack in size, they make up for in their spunky personalities! These little guys stand at less than 9 hands high and have a very compact build. Although they are usually too small to ride, they make for great companion animals and can even be trained to do driving competitions!

What breed do you want to see featured in our next issue? Reach out to Alice at ponytails.alice@hcbc.ca and let her know!

Interactive Story Feature: Find the Easter Eggs!

Follow along with Alice and friends as they scavenge the farm for hidden easter eggs. Can you find them all?

Hey kids! We’ve decided to set up a little Easter egg hunt here on the farm! I figured it might help to have someone with two legs taking part in our search. Are you ready for a fun and festive challenge? Let the scavenging begin!

Alice

First, let’s check the barn aisle. Apparently, there are THREE eggs hidden somewhere here. The Easter Bunny said to search high AND low. Do you see anything?

VolcanoI hope you were able to find those first three eggs! Earlier today, I thought I heard the door to the tack room open and shut. Maybe check there next!

Let’s see if you can find another TWO eggs concealed somewhere in the tack room. Take a look around - there’s lots of things that the Easter Bunny could’ve shoved an egg underneath.

Hey, yo Now that barn, I w arena. I good

According to an anonymous source, there are EIGHT eggs to be found in the arena. Supposedly the Easter Bunny was decorating some jumps, then dropped a few of his eggs when he heard someone coming and hopped out the exit!

Your other pony pals have a feeling that there may be more eggs in the hay loft Coach Steph has just gotten back from teaching a lesson - so you ask her nicely if you can go up there to take a look.

Yes, you may. But be careful up there... you’ll find lots of dust, cobwebs, and who knows what else!

Hmm... doesn’t look like there are any easter eggs

up here.

Hold on, what was that loud sound? Was it the Easter bunny?

*Sigh*... Nope. It’s just those mischievous goats causing trouble again.

**insertevil laugh**

Let’s go do a final check outside by the pastures. These goats seem too occupied with their schemes to give us any hints.

You run out to the fields and are greeted by Beau, who has some important information to share with you:

Beau

The rest of the Easter eggs aren’t here... they’re with the Easter Bunny! I just saw him hop past - run along down the path, and you’ll likely catch up with him!

Look - those are his tracks! Run, run, run as fast as you can! You don’t want him to get away with the last of the eggs!

Finally, after sprinting all the way down the driveway, you ’ ve caught up to him. The Easter Bunny is happy to see you, and applauds you for being the best easter egg hunter around.

What a great detective you are... you found me AND all the eggs. Let’s do this again the same time next year. :)

HORSEY FACTS OF THE MONTH:

APRIL FOOLS EDITION

Alice has decided to play a little April Fools prank on her readers and has given them two truths and a lie. Two of the facts given below are real, while one of them is a trick. Can you figure out which one is NOT the truth? (Hint: take a look at the Facts of the Month from some of the past issues of Pony Tails, which are all available on the HCBC website). Answers will be given on the next page.

Horses prefer to live in groups rather than travelling alone

2. Horses are more closely related to cows than rhinoceroses

3. Horses can nap standing up, but also need to lie down for 30 minutes a day to get their deep sleep.
