THE HAWAI‘I COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

What It Does & Why It Matters

YOU ALREADY KNOW that HCF scholarships send many of our keiki to college, and that through HCF grants, our non-profits fulfill their missions in our communities. But donors don’t just look to HCF to disburse their money. Donors look to HCF as a catalyst for change, an organization that can help them create long-term solutions for many of Hawai‘i’s most pressing problems.

HCF CREATES PARTNERSHIPS that coalesce the best minds in the state to create change. For the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, that means partnering on education, implementing a middle school program that readies students for high school and, on the environment, protecting nearshore marine habitats.

“When we join together, and look to what we know to be true and right and pono, we can solve a lot of problems. HCF’s got smart people who know how to solve problems. Every time I meet with them, I get smarter.” —Terry George, President & CEO of the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation Did You Know …

HCF is the catalyst that brings together donors and experts in six target areas – education, environment, socio/cultural concerns, health and social welfare, civic engagement, and the economy — building on its 100 years of experience to find solutions that make a difference today and for decades to come.

HCF IS A GATHERING PLACE, bringing together

donors with a common interest to find common solutions. For donors looking to create an environmentally sustainable Hawai‘i, that means shining a global light on the precarious future of indigenous species while also creating a water sustainability plan for the state.

“Philanthropy is more than a financial contribution; it is about the people you meet, the issues they face, the way coming together can make a meaningful difference.” —Wayne Rapozo, Rapozo Kama’āina Fund

HCF TRANSFORMS PEOPLE’S GENEROSITY INTO LASTING CHANGE,

guiding their philanthropic efforts to best benefit the communities and causes they want to reach. When Hawaiian Electric Industries (HEI) made a multi-year commitment to the communities along the leeward coast, they turned to HCF to guide the project. When Group 70 launched its community giving project, HCF helped them set it up, then worked with them to guide the grant process so their dollars could have maximum impact.

“We wanted to be sure we had money left over at the end of the ten year commitment so we could keep it going. HCF worked with us, making that happen.” —Cynthia Rezentes, coordinator of the HEI Ka Papa Kakuhihewa Fund
