from humble beginnings making college dreams come true When Frances Bean looks back on her childhood, she remembers the solid upbringing and strong family values her mother instilled, the good life her father provided through hard work and business acumen, and the nurturing environment of neighbors in the Wai’anae community. So creating the Frances Katsuda Creator, Frances Katsuda Bean Wai‘anae High School Scholarship Fund at Bean Wai’anae the Hawai‘i Community High School Foundation Scholarship Fund to support students in drama, fine arts and Searider Productions was a simple decision. “I am from Wai‘anae. Wai‘anae is a beautiful place where I was privileged to grow up. Hawai‘i made it possible for us to have the life we have, so giving back is easy and rewarding.”

Returning home and helping Searider grow is on my bucket list. I want to show the upcoming generation it is possible to chase your dreams.” “I am inspired by those who work their way up from humble beginnings,” she adds. “I enjoy seeing young people happy at what they are doing to achieve a better place for themselves. I hope for an atmosphere that encourages our young people to remain here to support Hawai‘i’s future.
