Overview & KEY MESSAGES for #GIVINGTUESDAYHI: Simple CTA: Create CHANGE for Hawai‘i this Giving Tuesday at CHANGEforHawaii.org Simple Message Hierarchy with CTA: WHAT: #GIVINGTUESDAYHI is how Hawai‘i participates in Giving Tuesday – a global day of giving that follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday. WHY: If we all give a little to support our local nonprofits, this Giving Tuesday, we can make Hawai‘i’s communities stronger. CTA: Let’s create CHANGE in Hawai‘i this Giving Tuesday, by sharing gifts of time, treasure, and talent at CHANGEforHawaii.org How does it work? Anyone who responds to the #GIVINGTUESDAYHI call to action by visiting the web page CHANGEforHawaii.org will be prompted to give Time, Treasure, and Talent to local nonprofits through the links on that page. Time​ – Individuals who volunteer for a Hawaii nonprofit in December and January can win a $1000 grant to a charity of their choice when they share a photo of themselves volunteering on social media using #CHANGEforHawaii Treasure​ – The link to “Give Treasure” will allow donors to give to Hawai‘i’s nonprofits on GiveBigHawaii.com. This platform includes Hawaii nonprofits that have signed up, to receive donations from December 3-8. GiveBigHawaii.com is provided free-of-charge to all Hawai‘i nonprofits by HONOLULU Magazine and the Hawai‘i Community Foundation (HCF). Talent​ – The link to “Give Talent” will direct the website visitor to a landing page on Catchafire.org. This website is a matching service for nonprofits seeking skilled volunteers for help with specific projects that range from marketing to financial services to website design. Users can filter through volunteer opportunities based on their location, skills, cause interests, and time they can give.

How does the #GIVINGTUESDAYHI Generosity Event work to promote giving? HCF and our many partners will “take-over” Downtown Honolulu with a fun and festive event on the four corners of King and Bishop Streets from 5-9 A.M on December 3rd. This year, for the first time, we will add another location in front of the new American Savings Bank campus at 300 N. Beretania Street. The event is open to all and it’s designed to create and inspire the spirit of giving in downtown professionals and community members across the state through​: ● ● ● ● ● ●

Breakfast treats provided by Chef Russell Siu of 3660 on the Rise and Kakaako Kitchen Beautiful dancers from Iona Contemporary Dance Company Giveaways like Hawai‘i Gives Back Magazine, bracelets and other items with a message about Giving Tuesday The infectious energy of volunteer sign-wavers from local businesses and nonprofits Music, performances, and demonstrations from local nonprofits Business card drawing for professionals to win a grant for a nonprofit of the choice

Will the media be there? Yes! We hope to spread this message across the state! Hawai‘i News Now will be broadcasting Sunrise on the Road from Downtown Honolulu the entire morning. The Star-Advertiser will also host two Facebook Live broadcasts (at 7 AM and 8 AM) that morning from each #GIVINGTUESDAYHI Generosity Event location. Both broadcasts will feature live business card drawings for downtown professionals to win a grant for a nonprofit of their choosing. What about home viewers? Can someone win a grant for a nonprofit from home, work, a different city, or a different island? Yes! Home viewers can enter to win a grant for a nonprofit of their choosing in one of two ways: 1) Log onto Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and create a post with the hashtag #GIVINGTUESDAYHI and an explanation about why they appreciate a nonprofit organization in their community. 2) Visit the Star-Advertiser Facebook page at 7 AM and 8 AM to view the Facebook Live broadcast and leave a comment about the nonprofit you would like to receive a grant and why. Social media winners will be chosen later in the day and announced on December 4.

Where did the grants for nonprofits come from? Many generous #GIVINGTUESDAYHI partners have donated the funding that will provide #GIVINGTUESDAYHI award grants ● Aio Foundation/Hawai‘i Gives Back Magazine ● American Savings Bank ● Bank of Hawaii Foundation ● Central Pacific Bank ● First Hawaiian Bank Foundation ● Hawai‘i Community Foundation What can partners expect pre- and post-event? HCF will provide the following pre-event materials ● Key messages/information about #GIVINGTUESDAYHI ● Invitation draft language to invite employees, nonprofit grantees, external to participate in the #GIVINGTUESDAYHI Generosity event ● Social media kit We will provide suggested social media posts for you to share on your company’s accounts to start generating buzz around the event HCF will follow-up with the following post-event reports/materials ● Media – receive links to media reports and photo albums ● Giving Tuesday report on results that includes: o Event numbers o Media impressions o Social media impressions o Funds raised and volunteers generated on Giving Tuesday (December 3-8) o Specific data about incentive grants to nonprofits that received gifts via the GiveBigHawaii.com giving portal in various categories (i.e. received the first donation, received largest number of donations, etc.)

What were last year’s #GIVINGTUESDAYHI results? $26,000 in publicity value: ​Hawai‘i News Now covered the event with live tv coverage and six segments highlighting a few local nonprofits and Giving Tuesday Hawai‘i partners: Bank of Hawaii Foundation, First Hawaiian Bank, Hawai‘i Gives Back Magazine, Show and Tell AV, Joseph Esser Photography, and Chef Russell Siu. News coverage provided an estimated $26,000 in publicity value to Giving Tuesday Hawai‘i. 1,000 breakfasts served:​ At the Giving Tuesday Generosity Event, Chef Russell Siu gave over 1,000 breakfast sandwiches to downtown professionals to invoke warm feelings and to deliver the message of Giving Tuesday. Three hours of holiday fun, service and inspiration:​ Volunteers from Bank of Hawaii, First Hawaiian Bank, Hawai‘i Community Foundation, and local nonprofit organizations waved signs and handed out #GivingTuesdayHI wristbands to spread the word of Giving Tuesday. Facebook Live Giving Challenge​: HCF ran a Facebook Live “puppy cam” and gave $2.00 to Assistance Dogs of Hawai‘i for every share. The post was shared 275 times by the end of the campaign. Social media engagement and hashtag use more than doubled across all channels compared to the year before with no puppy cam. $15,000 in grants to local nonprofits:​ HCF, Bank of Hawaii Foundation and First Hawaiian Bank donated a total of $15,000 that gave out fifteen $1,000 grants to winners who designated a Hawai‘i charity as a beneficiary of the award.
