THE HARRY AND JEANETTE WEINBERG FOUNDATION DONATES $300,000 TO VOLCANO RECOVERY Local foundation hopes to catalyze action and continued support for Hawai‘i Island recovery HONOLULU, HI – The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation announced today a $300,000 grant to the Hawai‘i Island Volcano Recovery Fund at Hawai‘i Community Foundation. The funds will support the local organizations on the ground on Hawai‘i Island who are bringing immediate relief to the neighborhoods and families impacted by the Kilauea eruptions. “We recognize that leaders on Hawai‘i Island are doing hard, important work to uplift their community.” said Corbett Kalama, Executive Vice President of The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation. “We owe our support – and our continued attention – to the long, evolving trajectory of this recovery effort. We hope that this gift can help encourage our state-wide ‘ohana to join us in funding their work.” Donations made to the Hawai‘i Island Volcano Recovery Fund support organizations serving three priority needs: • Response – immediate support for urgent needs for those displaced • Recovery – supporting a return to normalcy with temporary housing, reopened schools, and other essential services for affected families and communities • Rebuild – longer term assessment and support for those communities affected by the eruptions "The Kilauea eruption is displacing entire communities and it will take years for Hawai‘i Island to recover," said Micah Kane, CEO and president of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation. "The Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Foundation's generous contribution, along with gifts from everyone supporting Hawaii Island's recovery, will be deployed to help our communities rebuild and heal. Every gift is a heroic act and we hope these early donations encourage others to join in." Donations to the Hawai‘i Island Volcano Recovery Fund at HCF can be made at www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/volcanorecovery or by mail to Hawai‘i Community Foundation, 827 Fort Street Mall, Honolulu, HI, 96813. ###
