A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Friends, I am pleased to share with you the 2020-2021 Annual Report. There are many messages I could share with you at the outset of this welcome but certainly, the first must be one of gratitude and appreciation. In these pages, we see the generosity and outpouring of spirit by so many in our Holy Cross High School Community. I know I speak for all our teachers, staff and in a special way our students, when I say thank you. Holy Cross is truly blessed to be the beneficiary of your generosity. Our founder Blessed Basil Moreau, C.S.C made clear time and again that we are formed in both heart and mind to bring hope to others. This annual report speaks directly to that mission. Your support of Holy Cross is an act of bringing hope. Through your gift to Holy Cross, you have affirmed the value of our educational mission in the most direct and impactful way possible. In turn, I promise that our school will make good use of your contributions, manifested in our teaching, our coaching, our mentoring and our example. FUNDRAISING FAQ’s What is the Annual Fund? The Annual Fund supplies monies for Holy Cross High School’s yearly operating budget. The cost to educate a Holy Cross student far exceeds what we receive in tuition dollars and fees. We make up this “gap” each year through the Annual Fund. Annual Fund dollars are spent within the school’s fiscal year.

Where does the money go? Unrestricted donations pay for a number of items including financial aid, classroom supplies, daily utilities, technology upgrades and athletic equipment and more.

Why not just raise tuition? Holy Cross, like many other private schools, cannot be tuition-driven. We work hard to control tuition costs in order to make a Holy Cross education accessible to all interested families. Tuition costs would be through the roof, and the diversity of the student body would be compromised. Holy Cross covets a diverse setting and believes this inclusivity is integral to the educational experience. Accessibility, affordability and the many benefits derived from these two features are hallmarks of a Holy Cross education.

What about scholarships and major renovations? Does the Annual Fund pay for those too? No, those are paid through Capital Giving dollars which is comprised of major gifts. Capital gifts meet building and endowment needs that cannot be covered by tuition. Unlike Annual Fund dollars, capital donations do not have to be spent within that fiscal year. Think of the Annual Fund as the school’s checking account. Gifts to the Annual Fund provide for real time expenditures that provide immediate budget relief. Think of Capital Dollars (i.e. the Endowment) as the school’s savings account. It ensures a strong financial position for the school in perpetuity.

I can’t afford to make a large donation. Would any gift I give make a huge difference? Yes, all gifts matter and make a difference. Participation by all is extremely important. Our Holy Cross community is comprised of12,000+ alumni, 450 present parents and an un-countable number of people who have been affected by Holy Cross. Can you imagine how much money would be raised if all gave a minimum of $25-$50? Your generosity reaffirms, nourishes and strengthens the value of a Holy Cross High School education. 4

The Mission of Holy Cross High School is to assist in the total Christian education of young men and women. To accomplish this, Holy Cross High School, in cooperation with parents, provides a framework, which fosters integration of the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth of each individual. Holy Cross High School is an integral part of the mission of the Catholic Church. Our special role at Holy Cross High School is founded on the love that Jesus Christ has for us. We believe this love will lead us to an awareness of the uniqueness of each person in the Holy Cross community. The school’s PURPOSE is to foster the development of conscience and a sense of responsibility in each member of the school community.
