Then, transfer your observations as scientific drawings into a keepsake journal. Small, understory tree saplings will be available to take home for planting.

A TASTE OF TEXAS: THE ETHNOBOTANY OF TEXAS PLANTS*
Friday, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Ages 12+. For thousands of years, people have used plants as a food source, medicine, construction materials, textiles, dyes, and more. Take a walking tour with Mercer staff to discover the important relationship between plants and people, and learn about the historical uses of Texas native plants, such as Texas mountain laurel, inland sea oats, and milkweed.

BIKE SKILLS RODEO*
Saturday, 9 a.m. – noon May is Bike Month, so bring the kids out to Mercer’s first Bike Skills Rodeo! This family-friendly event is for youth with balance, tricycle, or training wheel bikes with up to 16-inch wheelsets. Activities include a helmet check and multiple stations to improve bike handling, trail etiquette, and traffic safety skills. Each participant will receive a certificate of completion and map of local cycling trails accessible from Mercer. Participants must bring their own helmets and closed-toe shoes.
