IMPROVING QUALITY OF CARE THROUGH LEADERS
A ‘Well Led’ organisation will be en-route to gaining ‘outstanding’ at inspection. It is vital that leaders of all levels are given the resources they need to not only do their job but also to reflect on their own practice. HCPA’s leadership courses are all designed to focus on the care sector and not just on theoretical models of leadership. There are courses for those brand new to leadership (such as team/shift leaders) and also courses for senior managers. Providing a safe space to discuss and plan new strategies, we want managers to be transformational with their teams and these courses are written in a way to enable this without feeling that aims are beyond tasks that can be carried out in a real working environment.
HCPA’s Leadership Practice Educators have worked extensively within the Social Care sector holding a range of positions to include owning Domiciliary Services, Operations Directors, Head of Learning & Development, Quality & Compliance Manager, new business starts ups, Supported Living Manager and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to support you to develop yourself, your team and service.

CHAMPIONS
INTRODUCTION
hcpa.info/courses/category/education-for-trainers/
HCPA Champions have been developed to create succession planning and sustainability within the care sector, while supporting providers with best practice and creating a culture of prevention and how to work internally and externally with Health and Social Care Professionals.
The unique HCPA Champion model provides organisations with the opportunity to manage prevention and complex issues by up-skilling and empowering a staff member. Giving them the enhanced knowledge and confidence to drive change through mentoring, coaching and training. As well as ensuring your service is following national guidance from NICE, LeDeR and the Oliver McGowan Core Capabilities Framework, which CQC will regulate.
A Champion will bring forward to their organisation what they have learned and in their role as Champion, cascade the information to their wider team. Throughout their learning experience they will be given tools to mentor and coach other staff. This creates stronger professional relationships and supports ‘better outcomes of the individuals you support’.
Why should my organisation have Champions?
• Champion courses are a great way to develop staff, empowering them to take responsibility to ensure best practice standards are met for your service
• Development often leads to better retention and improved quality of care
• Intensive course allows for in-depth learning, ensuring a deeper understanding of topic areas
• Organisations can demonstrate their dedication to staff training in specialist topics
• Champions receive even more points on the Care Academy to unlock even more rewards and savings
Expectations of being a Champion:

• Gain topic specific knowledge, including an accredited unit qualification (selected programmes)
• Keep up to date with resources and support via the HCPA Members Zone
• Take responsibility to champion the topic area to ensure the care provider meets best practice standards
• Build strong relationships with professionals
• Support “Better outcomes for the individuals you support” for topic area
• Review Governance of the topic including reviewing and update policies and procedures to meet standards
• Attend yearly Continuing Professional Development and complete reflective accounts to enable revalidation
Selecting your Champion:
To help you select your chosen Champion, they will need to:
1. Be a member of staff with authority to mentor staff and work with external partners
2. Have enthusiasm and dedication to promote best practice in the organisation and action change
3. Be committed to multi-disciplinary working, both internally and externally
4. Have confidence and strong communication skills to share information with staff teams via team meetings
5. Have the ability to critically review current governance processes for the topic area
These courses will enable care professionals to take on the role of Champion within their organisation, for these topics.
