Thank you for choosing Hull College. To help you settle in, we’ve written this mini-guide with all the useful information you may need to know in your first few weeks at Hull College. You will find information about financial support, the Student Union, employability skills and what we have on offer to make the most of your experience as a student. Hull College is here to support you and help you to achieve your best. Should you need anything during your time with us, simply ask.

Facilities Food on Campus Hungry? You can find a fine selection of food for reasonable prices at the College’s canteens and refectories providing a great choice of healthy meals, hot and cold snacks and lunches on campus.

Rooms to Relax In We want you to make the most of your experience at Hull College; whether it’s studying or socialising, you will find space in our range of relaxation areas.

Hair and Beauty Salon Hair and beauty treatments are on offer at excellent value for money in the College’s very own, fully equipped training salon, Salon QG.

Counselling Students can access free and confidential professional counselling through the Hull College Group Counselling Service. Anyone can refer themselves and can apply for counselling around any issue.

Child Care Hull College’s facilities includes two Ofsted inspected child care centres and, dependent upon your personal circumstances, financial support may be available to help meet the costs of child care, the Student Support Services team can provide further information.

Study The Learning Resource Centre is filled with books, journals and other reading materials as well as a computer suite to help support your studies.

Entertainment There’s plenty to do on campus including visiting the training restaurant HU1 Riverside for a delicious threecourse dinner or even watching a performance at the Riverside Theatre.


Financial Support Student Maintenance Allowance The Student Maintenance Allowance is made up of two parts: a payment of ÂŁ1,225 to a small group of the most vulnerable and a discretionary fund for schools, colleges and training providers to distribute. For more details or to check whether you are eligible to receive the Student Maintenance Allowance, call our friendly Student Finance Team on 01482 598942.

FREE Transport If you qualify for our Student Maintenance Allowance, are studying a full-time course and live more than 3 miles from your place of study, you will also be eligible to receive FREE Transport to/from the College. Please note that the cost of transport will be deducted from your overall Student Maintenance Allowance and that this will vary depending on where you live.

FREE Meals If you qualify for the Student Maintenance Allowance, are aged between 16-18 and you or your parents are in receipt of certain benefits, you may also be eligible for Free Meals. Your application will be assessed for Free Meals when you apply for the Student Maintenance Allowance. College Life We want you to enjoy your time at Hull College and make the most of your experience with us. Students are able to take part in a wide range of social and recreational activities as well as opportunities to compete on a national level in skills competitions within your course subject.

Students’ Union The Hull College Group Students’ Union; an independent organisation set up by the students, for the students. Through the Students’ Union you can make your voice heard locally and nationally on issues which concern you – drop by our office to see what we can do for you or message us on Facebook or Twitter. We organise a variety of social events during the academic year, giving students an opportunity to get involved in activities including Sports, Enterprise, Computing and more! Employability Skills At Hull College, we believe in delivering more than just courses. Our study programmes are designed to help you prepare for a career after college.

Hull College Group Employability Skills Passport Our Employability Skills Passport is a way for you to keep a record of the skills you develop and the industry-relevant training you receive at Hull College. This allows you to build up your CV and shows employers you are ready to work. .

Employability Skills Seal The Employability Skills Seal is our endorsement that a student has passed all levels of the Passport required. It will demonstrate to employers that you have the skills and qualities they want in an employee.
