Process of Modeling

About New City District

Inspired by good accessibility plane relation that space syntax shows, we hope that the plane will present the form of superposed Commercial Street, and the junction will be node space consumers sharing.

Space Syntax and Flowing Space Accessibilities In order to make flowing space more reasonable, we selected several typical malls and used space syntax to analysis these planes. By comparing accessibility of different plane position on the same conditions, we summarized some similarities of layout space having good accessibility, and expect to generate the fundamental basis of architectural form.

Create gray space

Perspective

The space like street connects node space.

Smooth homogeneous space permeates parts of the building and put them together.

Connected with indoor street directly and expansively.

THE KICKS

In order to keep good accessibility and interesting space of the building, we find some inspiration from the movie plot.Inception.This movie which is breathless and has very strong construction mainly adopted polyphonic narrative technique. Under certain plot arrangement each character interweave and has its own clues. We used a similar arrangement creating the building plot ups and downs and richness.

Architectural Scenes VS. Movie Episode Construction spatial sequences connect scenes in series and contact with people's activities in malls, so that users of the construction would become protagonists of Narrative fragments in building. In the new town of Huai nan, besides the function of being shopping center the commercial complex should also become part of communities and the carrier of livings. So the construction scene with ample spaces supposed to be established.

Intersect mass forming gray space that make people walk from main road through to the river. The square providing distribution, creating community activities such as offering dancing place for the aged, which makes new town active.

Plot Datrium

Along the river side, we pull up a corridor between building and skin to become a bar street by taking advantage of natural landscape in order to facilitate independent management of night.

Plot A square

REC 07:23:08 am Doing morning exercise

The atrium space is point space in flow, making spatial pattern of building change, enhancing connection in floors. Through roof scuttles, the sun shining into the building, the REC 03:45:27 pm natural lighting being increased, the direction Happy shopping time of roof garden will be guided.

REC 11:30:45 pm Release yourself in midnight

Plot B stairs

The second floor which is direct attainable through rampway from outside put up creative arts district. Changing the closed pattern, we adopt semi open space and link loft style rooms on corridor.

REC 02:30:16 pm Leisurely lazy noon

A bookstore is set up on third floor to make our commercial complex blend in community life. The big step outside bookstore can be used as outdoor leisure reading space. To echo environment the interior feature next to big step brings quiet reading experience.

REC 10:02:32 am Sober-minded forenoon

Plot Ccorridor One air corridor on third floor connects two pieces of parted space. People can stop and talk and also can enjoy the scenery through the curtain wall.

Site In this proposal, we try to preserve the original exterior part of the building while renewing its structure so that it’s sustainable and could still be in harmony with the surroundings. At the same time, the interior experience is supposed to be promoted by a newly inserted mass of glass and a corridor we create for passers-by.

With modern materials like glass and steel presented together with the original facade, a senario of dramatic conflict is revealed, while the transparency minimizes the impact brought to the surroundings. When it’s used as classrooms, it meets with the lightening requirements and students can inspect every organ in the restaurant through the glass; When it’s used as kitchens, customers can see exactly how their dinners are created. People can see famous spot of Paris right through the huge windows, which makes a visit to the Market Lab a feast for the eye as well as for the gustation.

Other Works(Advanced Graduate Studio) New Partner for Downtown Chioggia VIA Design Grad 3 Type: Advanced Graduate Studio 3 Tutor: Martha Kohen, UFL Solo work November 2015- December 2015

The historic center of Chioggia harbors like a smaller scaled Venice. Like Venice, Chioggia functions on a system of canals that bisect the city. Chioggia has few parking lots and barely has greenland and plazza. The commercial type basicly are fish market and private store under residential. At the sametime, Chioggia needs a museum to show the city’s histry about fishermen and boat. In this project, we try to introduce morden commercial type to Chioggia combining with museum and residencial through plazza, parking and greenland. Old factory site is a perfact place to do this project. The stratage for the buildings of the city will preserve some buildings, demolish some and add some according to the condition of these buildings.

Parallel Loop VIA Design Grad 3 Type: Advanced Graduate Studio 3 Tutor: Martha Kohen, Albertus Wang, UFL Solo work September 2015- October 2015

Vicenza is a historical city in north Itay. There are two rivers across the city which are named Bacchiglione and Fiume Retrone. They are great wealth that god gave the city. But it seems like people in this city is not willing to be close to them. In this project, we are trying to provide tourists with an opportunity to visit Vicenza in a different way and provide citizens a chance to get closer to the river. A port for kayaks will fullfill this purpose. For tourists, we created several nodes so that people who are in canoes can get a chance to land at the bank and walk in the city then get back continuing their kayaking journey. For citizens, a long trail along the river will provide them with a new place for walking, running and riding bicycles. The historic ruined convent church will be recycled as the Kayak storage facility. At the same time, we are providing an energy program based on the river current to make the project energy self-suffercient. Water wheels under the trail and solar pannels on the roof of the building will provides lighting energy.
