如果说地球是一部关于生存的电影, 每一个建筑都应是这部电影的特写。

If our earth is a film about living, buildings should be the close-up sequences for this film.

BUILDING-BRIDGE

Guadalquivir river, Seville, Spain First prize of Bridging Rivers International Competition

Concept I hope that this building can present the city. I hope that the buildings can be entrusted the same character as the city. At the daytime it is quiet and elegant; at the nighttime it becomes as charming as Flamenco dancers. The later the night is, the more beautiful the building can be.

The goal of this project is to design a Building-Bridge above the River Guadalquivir near the city center of Seville. This buildingbridge need to constitute a public attractor to the university community and the general public of Seville. Seville is a tourism city famouse for it`s large amount of elegant historical buildings and passionate Flamenco. I attempted to translate these two conflicting charactors into architectural language by using mirror glass. This building will be a new "landscape" which can strengthen the sense of city and attract more tourists.

From Concept to Reality Single-side mirror glasses are used on the facade. During the day a hazy view is created in the middle; in addition, the building’s volume and ratio are strictly controlled so that buildings can be as elegant as historical buildings in Sevilla. At night, lights are thrown to the internal curve floors. The indefinite enthusiasm are shown and the building starts dancing with the city after night falls.

Inspiration During the day, Seville shows her elegant history and leisurely life; when night falls, she bursts out indefinite enthusiasm and charm. Lovely Flamenco dancers send out their attractiveness in bars or at the plazas.

Volume Control

Restrict building boundries according to the original constructions and leave a plaza at front of the building.

Rotate the entries face to residential area, park and palace, which brings better views and leads citizens to the reserved old square located beside the west entrance.

ENTRANCE

Creat floating space above the river while remain the view connection between two nearby bridges. Meanwhile, it looks like a concise leaf from San Telmo Palace, which protect original views from too many disturbances during day time.

MYSTERIOUS RUINS

Gaziantep, Turkey Shortlisted for the National ISOVER Competition in the UK

Introduction and Concept

Design Progress

This project is a primary school located in Gaziantep, Turkey. Many environmental strategies were integrated into this project. For instance, all classrooms have a steady and suitable daylight environment. Natural ventilation is also considered and simulated in each classroom. PV panels are mounted the pitch roof to make use of the adequate soalr source in Turkey, and external shading devices are controlled by grasshopper to avoid overheating at specific time. The concept of this project comes from the memory of my childhood: kids are always being curious about mystery. What I did was creating a 'ruin' which was inspired by the local ancient ruins. Ancient ruin is the thing that full of stories and mysteries. This school will be not only a place for indoor teaching, but also a place for outdoor adventure and exploration.

BIG GREEN

Year:2014 Matlock, Nottinghamshire, UK Shortlisted for the Best Use of Concrete Award Published on local newspaper in Matlock

Introduction and Concept The project includes a green slope, some multi-use stages, a sunken library and a service apartment. An overall environmental strategy was considered during the design progress. After calculated in SAP, the result shown that this building achieved level 6 (zero carbon) in Breeam. The concept of this project was to convert the original car park into a green slope, which provided opportunities for enjoying local natural scenes and different activities. I want to show off the local nature and culture to all visitors. Only these local characters can make Matlock itself unique and attractive. Original car park was hidden under the slope and a service apartment was floating above the slope. By this way, the original negative space was transformed to a positive stage for local people and visitors.

Environmental Strategies

PVsyst Calculation It was found that a maximum of 59129kWh electric power can be generated each year which is higher than the required power for whole apartments (22932kWh).

Part B:330 ㎡ Part A:140 ㎡

Rainwater Collection & Calculation Assuming a system efficiency of 0.9 and run-off coefficient of 0.8, we can calculate the average yearly collected rainwater from rainfall data. If we assume that a torage capacity of 5% of annual total is required, we can approximate the tank size. Average Monthly Rainfall of Matlock

Daylight Factor Studies

Tank A: 3.2m³

Tank B: 9.1m³

Wind-driven Ventilation and Buoyancy Ventilation Calculation Both two kinds of ventilation were calculated and ensured the internal air flow rate is enough for cooling and air change under all wind conditions in Matlock.
