am still learning my personal style, but what I have learned the most, is to wear what makes me feel like my best version, or like a daughter of God.

MAKEUP I went super light on the makeup, from a L’oreal Healthy Skin Concelear to a natural looking lip with whispy lashes. Lastly, a filled in brow really brought the whole look to life. elevate your look. I decided to pair the look with these faux leather heels from shein.com that are a low heel and easy to walk in. I added my favorite bag, necklace and earrings to make the look complete.

here are so many hats that we, as women, wear on a daily basis. Between the people we love and the obligations we have, it can be easy to get swept up in it all without making time for ourselves. The truth is, there is no way we can fully show up for others without showing up for ourselves first. Not only is it okay to pour back into ourselves until our cup overflows, it’s required. Mental stress can cause physical symptoms of illness, while physical ailments cause undue stress on the mental. It’s all connected! But don’t fret. Self care doesn’t have to be another big thing to add to your to do list. Keep yourself balanced, taking care of your mind and body with these easy tips:

ind: Carve out time for mindfulness: Mindfulness is being able to clear your mind and be fully, mentally present in that moment. You can even close your eyes and take in a few deep breaths. This gives you the opportunity

to slow down and really check in with yourself to see how you’re feeling. This can be done anytime of the day when you have a quiet moment, and are fantastic ways to begin and end the day as well.

rain dump: Are you feeling like there’s just so much going on mentally that you can’t possibly take on anything else? Brain dump! Similar to journaling, brain dumping allows you to get all those thoughts crowding your brain onto a piece of paper. This can be done in an organized fashion or can take the form of random little notes on a scrap piece

of paper! Make it your own and create your own rules. Doing this will allow you to clear your mental space, allowing thoughts to flow more freely. You also get the added benefit of having your thoughts and ideas on paper to reference at a later date.

onnect: Simply talking and laughing with others releases endorphins, or feel-good hormones. Connect safely with people with similar interests, or with loved ones. One idea is to have a virtual “lunch date,” where you call each other and talk via video over lunch. Nothing beats human connection, and having people to talk to on a regular basis can help you not feel alone and give you a chance to be heard, which is sometimes all a person needs.

ne healthy habit: Choose one healthy habit per day that takes 30 minutes or less. It could be drinking more water, taking a vitamin, or going for a walk. When you give your body what it needs, you feel good and perform better!

something for you: Whether it’s a full luxurious bubble bath or a 5 minute face mask, ending the day pouring back into yourself is a wonderful way to give yourself some much needed love and attention.

Notice that all these things can take as long or be as quick as you need them to be. That’s because self care should be done every day, not just when you can splurge on a spa day. Take charge of your mental and physical well being by working these things into your schedule. It’ll help you become your best self.

Chat It Up Founder Brittany Stephens

HDC BUSINESS GRANT

ur 2021 Business Grant Recipient was Brittany Stephens, the founder of Chat It Up, which is a women’s social networking organization. Brittany started Chat It Up from her living room, in Tulsa Oklahoma. Brittany has

a heart for women to know that “this is a sisterhood, not a competition” and understand that we all have the opportunity to cultivate our gifts and talents.

GIVING BACK TO MINORITY WOMEN! Many amazing connections have been made through the Chat It Up organization. Every event has doubled in attendance and has rapidly grown throughout the Oklahoma and Florida community. Chat It Up has also been featured on Kjamz 105.3 FM radio as well as featured on Iconic Women!

A $1,000 grant was gifted to Chat It Up, from His Daughter’s Closet Ministries to impact and network with women in Oklahoma and Florida.

on’t know where to start? Grab a devotional or devotional Bible commentary! This takes the guesswork out, helps you see key themes of the scriptures, and may even explain how the scripture can be applied to daily life.

ick a translation you understand. When selecting a Bible, make sure you can read and understand the main idea of the passages you read. You can also use more than one translation for the same scripture to help you get a better understanding. The Bible App allows you to move through multiple translations without having to keep a stack of Bibles!

Prayer Walk The simple walk that turned into a powerful moment with God!

I

n May I began doing a Prayer Walk with my little dog Monti. This walk would be three miles every evening, and it actually didn’t feel like three miles. I would have my worship music playing or just listening to nature and sounds, but somehow, the more I walked the more peace I began to find on the trails of that walk. My goal wasn’t to pray or to turn it into something spiritual, but it turned there anyway. I began to see God in the details of nature and even in new ways in my life. I saw Him in the way I loved my dog, smiled at the people on the trail, or even when I pushed myself to jog miles. The prayer walk was a time for me to get out of the norm of my schedule and outside in nature. I also would save big pressing issues in my life to address on this walk, and I always got the clarity I needed. I knew this walk was peaceful, but I didn’t know it was powerful until one day after walking that trail for two months, God spoke to me powerfully. He spoke in a way

that had me floored. He revealed a few areas I was struggling in and why. He took me generationally and revealed some pains that my lineage had battled, and now I, too, was battling it. That was the moment when I realized that this was no small gesture of just walking, but it was a meeting ground to meet God. I saw that God took that usual routine and said, now meet me outside, somewhere else. That is going to require you to get uncomfortable for a bit, but I will speak powerfully to you there.

If I would’ve tried to be perfect at the prayer walk, I would’ve missed God. But instead of being perfect, I just tried to go when my schedule permitted me to make it. And now, my body is better, my blood pressure is better, and my legs are looking nicer than they’ve looked in years. Most of all, I meet God outside of my home and busy schedule and that has made a huge difference in my personal walk. Thank God for the Prayer Walk!

I

’ve

experienced massive growth in the last few years, growth within my personal life and the ministry. This I’ve learned is that to grow in your life, starts with faith and a new standard for your life. This journey has been like clawing your way out of a pit, and when you get it out, all you can do is praise and shout. That’s exactly where I once was and were I am today. I want you to know that these pictures, this magazine, these initiaves, these contributors and even these resources to do all of this, is the reflection of trusting God at the new standards of life He continued to give me.

2016 I took this photo in a old church near my college campus. Somehow, this photo was the beginning of me answering the call to ministry and not running from it anymore.

When I first got the idea to do a magazine, all my fears jumped in. I wondered if I could handle another thing on my plate. I wondered if it would be impactful, resourceful and a great addition to the ministry. I had all these doubts and fears, but with faith I did it. Really, I did it with all those questions unanswered. I set a goal, got an intern, and began to brainstorm and create. All this came from an idea and faith, my hope is that this inspires you to push past the fear, to step out of the box of what you are used to and create greatly. The new ideas can be daunting, but with faith and action they can be fun, exciting and just what your life needs for this new season. Embrace Your Ideas and Watch God Work!
