The year seems to be flying by. Already we are heading towards the Summer half term holiday and the Year 6 have finished their SATs. Yet again they have put in a superhuman effort and are we are extremely proud of them. Next year’s holiday dates are on the school website with training days highlighted in yellow. They are also on the back of this newsletter. Classes next year. We are expanding to thirteen classes next year with an extra class in lower key stage 2. This means we will have two year 3 classes and two year 4 classes. There will also be some staff changes that we will let you know about next half term. Reports are due to go out on Friday 11th July. As always, if you have any conerns or questions about your child’s progress and learning between parents’ evenings and reports you are always welcome to come in and see your class teacher after school or ring to make an appointment to talk to them if this is not convenient for you. Please do not smoke E Cigarettes anywhere on the school premises.

“This school really helps me with my self confidence

and reaching the highest level...” - Year 6 child

“I like being in our school because we learn lots of exciting things ...”

Attendance - The attendance policy next year will continue with the same criteria as it has this year. This means that holidays can only be authorised in exceptional circumstances. These are defined by the local authority and the government as; 1.

Where it is company/organisational policy for an employee to take leave at a specific time in the year and there is no opportunity for a family holiday in school holidays. This must be evidenced by production of the policy document of the organisation.

2.

Service personnel returning from/scheduled to embark upon a tour of duty abroad.

3.

Where a holiday is recommended as part of a parent or child’s rehabilitation from a medical or emotional issue. Evidence must be provided from a Health Professional.

If you are unsure then please ask for advice and be aware that we do fine for unauthorised holidays.

Parent Questionnaire Many thanks for all your repsonses to the parent questionnaire. Please see the next page for the results. Most parents were very positive about the school which is very encouraging for us. The areas that a small number of parents felt we could improve were behaviour and communication. We constantly review both these areas in school and if there are specific ways in which you feel we could improve then please let us know. Sometimes, especially when we are dealing with children’s behaviour, other children or parents are not aware of what we are doing to modify children’s behaviour because of confidentiality. If you are concerned about behaviour in your child’s class or elsewhere in the school the most important thing you can do is talk to us so that we are fully aware of your concerns.

After thirteen years dedicated hard work at Hatchell Wood Primary School, Miss Rees has decided to leave teaching and have a change in career. I am sure you would like to join us in wishing her all the best for the future and thank her for the service that she has given to the children at Hatchell Wood over the years.
