A Kindergarten Story
Tammy Donahue illustrated by Lisa White
We draw apple trees. Kamden clings to mom and cries. Skyler rubs her sleepy eyes. And Franklin frets ‘cause he forgets.
2
“His To-Do List seems quite tall.”
3
And Paisley pirouettes down the hall.
4
5
We draw pumpkins. Kamden kisses mom good-bye. Skyler’s eyes begin to shine. And Franklin finds his homework fast!
6
“It’s not a small task at all.”
7
And Paisley pirouettes down the hall.
8
9
We draw snowmen. Kamden blows his mom a kiss. Skyler scurries. School’s just bliss! And Franklin’s field trip form is found.
10
“Mom no longer needs a call.”
11
And Paisley pirouettes down the hall.
12
13
14
We spend time with our families. 15
When we return to school… 16
… something magical seems to happen.
17
We draw hearts, and then shamrocks and birds that fly.
18
Then flowers and bunnies and bright, sunny skies. “It can’t be June! My, how time flies!”
19
Now Kamden cries…
Then he hugs all his classmates And Miss Clemons good-bye.
20
“He will miss them! (That’s no surprise!)”
21
Skyler sighs…
“Thank you, Miss Clemons for helping me see how important it is to be my best ‘me’.”
22
“She can do anything, if she tries!”
23
And Franklin flies…
He reminds Miss Clemons to do all in her power to come once a week to water each flower.
24
“They will surely wilt if she waits till fall!”
25
And Paisley pirouettes down the hall.
26
27
She reaches the door and sees Mr. Moore who smiles when he sees her come near. “Paisley, my dear, tell me, how was your year?” Oh, this question she could not ignore.
28
“This is a good question, because, in case you didn’t hear, this is the last day of the year!”
But Paisley didn’t fear. She simply stood still and thought… She liked her first school year a lot! 29
She loved reading and writing! They made her feel smart! But, to Paisley, these subjects were merely the start.
For deep in her heart what she wished to be known was how all children grow in a way of their own. 30
So many things changed, she wasn’t sure where to start. Then she smiled and began… “Let me tell you about our art…” First, we drew apple trees…
“I think they’re ready for next year! It’s going to be a breeze!”
