orses have over the years proved to be a reliable and amiable animal completely in tune with assisting the human. It can be tamed, trained and is emotionally attuned to the needs of its rider. The horse is an integral path of our civilisation and ability to make greater strides and move ahead in our lives. To say it was one of the first modes of transport is an understatement. The horse has been found buried in ancient graves with its owners, in lithographs depicting life in

ancient Egyptian times, and has also been assigned the speed barometer of vehicles today horsepower. Horses have entertained and assisted humans from time immemorial. When the first horse race occurred is not known but chariot and bareback mounted races were happening as a part of the Olympic Games in Greece by 700 BCE. And horse racing with a chariot or mounted was a very popular form of entertainment in the Roman Empire. As the world progressed over the years, having a stud of horses became a noble and prestigious acknowledgement of high net worth. Soon, noblemen and royalty in England and Europe began to have studs with a number of horses brought in from other parts of the world and bred with their own to create better breeds that were speedier and more accomplished at winning races. This purity of lineage is something which is kept very pure and preserved amongst Arabian and other horse enthusiasts and racing owners.

10

12TH INTERNATIONAL EQUINE TRADE FAIR

So not only is the Arabian Horse the most beautiful among its peers, it is also the purest of breeds that gives them the edge over others. Some Arabian Horse owners even allege to have their horse lineages authenticated and confirmed going back hundreds of years.

The Arabian pure breed The Arabs call the pure breed of the Arabian horse the Asil (pure blood). And being the best kindof racing horse it is also an endangered breed. As per a few years ago, there are only about a 100 of the 7002 registered Arabian horses in the UAE being Asils and all belong to senior royals. The Asil has even better and sturdier qualities than the regular breed of horse. The fact that it is from the desert region with its harsh weather, this horse exudes immense strength of character. And performance isn’t very far behind either. This horse understands the desert environment where the horse’s owner has only his animal for support and transport.

Horses today may be kept in a controlled and enclosed environment where all of their needs are cared for, however in the past, the bedouin and his horse were companions for long durations of journeys and were a part of the family environment when not on long arduous travels. They were even brought and stayed in tents with bedouin families where little children were also present because of their caring, nurturing, understanding nature. The bedouin manner of breeding is being increasingly lost in modern times leading to a crisis of endangerment of this fine breed of horse. According to the Germany-based Al Asil Club (of which the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s stables are members as well as a number of other royal stables), there are approximately 500,000 Asil arabian horses in the world today but in reality out of these Asils are only about two per cent. The Arabian can withstand great hardship in the desert environment being able to go upto

three days without water and on very little sustenance. It is due to this characteristic of the Arabian that they are used more in endurance races than thoroughbreds (which are faster but cannot endure long periods of races.) There are a number of myths dating back hundreds of years about the Arabian horse. According to the article in The National, one story relating to the Arabian horse is about a time in 1812, when Napolean went to Russia. He was severely defeated losing much of his army and horses. Only about 2,000 horses remained out of 180,000. All of the 2,000 were Arabians. The Arabian horse continues to be cherished and bred in the highest standards of purity till date. UAE especially has ensured that the culture of breeding horses that has been a part of their deep rooted traditions is being continued using the latest technology. The sport that is related to the animal such as horse racing and endurance racing is one that is revered and practiced by the elite in the country.

Company Profile: Emilce Melano, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. From her childhood she loves to ink drawing everywhere in her school notebooks, but she only realize on her 40’s about her real passion. After attending many workshops where she got to try different mediums and found them so easy, Emilce enroll to Fine Arts University in Buenos Aires “Prilidiano Pueyrredon” in 1996. Her first exhibition was in 1997 and from then a continued growth of her artistic career.

All her paintings achieve a great realism, from equestrian portrait to still nature and landscapes. From 2015 she exhibit her art work in Dubai as well. More than 20 years of experience give Emilce Melano the taste and realism in her art work. The expressive look of her horses is a personal and unique touch from the artist. Her work combines strength, energy and freedom, connecting the viewer with her horses’ soul or inviting them to join the scene. Why do you paint horses? Horses are a loyal creature, I’m so passionate about horses, their muscles, their complicate anatomy, the look in their eyes. They are so free, with their manes in the wind. They are elegant, elastics, curious, wild. They are strong and faithful.

Company Profile: Botanica International Ltd was established in 2005 to cater for the growing awareness of natural products and to utilize the wonders of Nature’s Healing Energy. We have developed a natural herbal range of products which are very beneficial when used with a wide range of skin conditions. All of the products can be used on both humans and animals. The Herbal range contains a combination of natural ingredients, all of which have proven beneficial properties. Botanica’s Herbal system works to promote healthy cell growth and complete recovery without scarring. Traditionally we would look for a cream to form a barrier on a cut, but in fact a heavy thick cream can slow down the healing process on two levels. It can hold dirt around the affected area and it can prevent infection from getting out! Botanica’s wash cleanses the area and helps to remove any dirt or scabbing which may have formed. This part of the process is vital as it keeps the affected area open and

draining, to allow any infection that may be present to drain out. The wash is followed by Botanica’s Herbal Cream which is readily absorbed into the skin. It activates healthy cell growth and the powerful combination of the herbal and soothing properties of the natural ingredients get to work on a swift, complete recovery. Daily washings and cream application will reduce the affected area while continuing to liberate any infection.
