10 Avoidable Factors That Can Aggravate Your Allergic Reactions

..................................................................................................... Suffering from allergic reactions like a stuffed or a runny nose is never a delightful experience. That is why each individual who experiences some kind of allergic reaction should know what aggravates this kind of reaction and does his/her best to avoid them in order not to suffer. You can attain this knowledge by reading the following points. Feel free to add comments about what aggravates your allergic reactions if it isn’t already on the list to help other allergy sufferers. 10. Climate Conditions Allergies worsen with certain climate conditions. If you know these conditions exist, stay at home or if you can’t wear a mask while going out. These climate conditions include dry, windy conditions which are perfect for the release of pollen grains and their spread. A wet weather with little rain can also disperse pollen into small particles which can are very annoying allergens. On the other hand, days with heavy precipitation wash away allergens from the air, making it safe to be out and about. 9. Stressing One factor that can worsen your allergic reactions is stress. Fortunately, you can control this factor by relaxing by meditating, getting away from what provokes your stress and getting sufficient rest. Otherwise, you will be more vulnerable to allergy and its reactions. 8. Being Around Smoke

If you suffer from allergies then you must already know that being around smokers or other sources of smoke worsens your condition. Studies show that the bodies of people who have ragweed allergies respond to secondhand smoke and ragweed by increasing IgE, an allergen antibody, to levels that are more than 16 times higher than being exposed to ragweed alone. 7. Eating Certain Fruits and Vegetables The surfaces of some fruits and vegetables have certain proteins which can cause allergic reactions when eaten as though you are consuming pollen. This is known as the oral-allergy syndrome (OAS). Each pollen allergy is activated by specific foods like apples, cantaloupe and tomatoes. You can reduce this reaction by peeling or cooking the produce that induces your allergic response. 6. Drinking Alcoholic Beverages Alcoholic beverages are filled with sulfite compounds which aggravates allergic reactions. In fact, studies show that women who drink a lot are 78% more likely to suffer from a stuffed-up nose than women who refrain from drinking much alcohol. 5. Wearing Contacts Contact lenses seem like a wonderful solution to visual problems. However, you should avoid wearing them when the atmosphere is filled with pollen because the permeable lenses absorb irritants and make your eyes more prone to allergic reactions. Hence, either wear glasses whenever you are around pollen or smoke, or wear disposable contacts that you change daily to avoid accumulation of irritants. 4. Fragrances Remove fragrant objects such as candles and incense from your home to avoid irritation of your eyes and nose. If you enter a place that is filled with irritating smells, treat yourself as soon as you go home. 3. Swimming Pools Swimming pools are filled with chlorine which causes an allergic reaction similar to that caused by fragrances. Hence, avoid swimming in or sitting near chlorinated pools. 2. Wearing Certain Clothes Certain clothes made of substances such as wool have rough surfaces which pollen sticks to. Not washing these clothes after wearing them once will build-up pollen and dust on them. It is recommended to wash them after you take them off with a hot water to get rid of allergens, but take care that they can shrink this way. 1. Choosing the Wrong Medications Allergy medications contain antihistamines, decongestants or a combination of both. Choose antihistamines to cure sneezing, runny nose and itchiness; and choose decongestants to relieve a stuffy nose. If neither medications work, head to an allergist for help.
