Eye disorders can be complex as well and somewhat startling, ranging from relatively harmless to rather threatening conditions that may lead to serious complications. Trachoma Trachoma is a serious bacterial infection that causes roughening in the inner eyelids. Trachoma can lead to possible permanent blindness if not treated or in case of multiple infections. The conditions occur worldwide due to poor hygiene and it can be spread from a person to another. 9. Heterochromia Heterochromia is a difference in the coloration of the eye. It could be two different colored eyes, two colors in the same eye or a colored ring around the pupil. Heterochromia is inherited in most cases and considered benign, whereas sometimes it might be a symptom of another underlying defect. 8. Polycoria Polycoria is a condition where the eye has more than one functioning and independent pupil in the iris. It is considered a very rare disorder in which the reason of its occurrence remains unknown. Pseaudo-


polycoria is a more common condition characterized by multiple pupils that is lacking the pupillary orifices and does not cause any eye problems. 7. Haemolacyria Crying blood, Haemolacyria, is rather an odd condition that causes a person to produce tears containing blood. A person with this disorder starts to bleed uncontrollably from their eyes. The causes for this condition remains unclear to researchers. 6. Cat Eye Syndrome A cat eye syndrome is a rare chromosomal disorder that is usually evident at birth. It is characterized and named after its most apparent symptom of a narrow pupil pushed towards the iris. However, not all cases show this symptom. People suffering from the cat eye syndrome may experience hyperactivity and mild mental disability along with some effects on other organs. 5. Floaters Floaters are dark spots or strands floating through one’s visual field. These floaters are seen because of the shadows casted on the retina by broken apart vitreous in the eye. Floater causes visual problems which are intensified by exposure to light. They are more severe in old age due to vitreous humour changes. Floaters are not simply removed with eye drops, vitrectomy is needed for their removal. 4. Aniridia Eye Disorder Aniridia eye disorder is a condition with complete or partial absence of the iris. In most cases, the condition affects both eyes. It is caused by mutations of the gene PAX6. These mutations can cause corneal changes which contributes to vision loss. 3. Pterygium Conjunctiva Pterygium conjunctiva, or surfer’s eye, is the benign growth of conjunctiva usually in the nasal side of the sclera. Being exposed to ultra-violet rays such as sunlight is the main cause of this eye disorder, in addition to low humidity and dust. The predominance of pterygia on the nasal side causes the sun rays passing through the cornea to refract and focus on the limbic area. 2. Leukocoria Eye disorder Leukocoria, or white pupil, occurs when the pupil appears white rather than black. The white is an abnormal light’s reflection from the retina due to a lack of layers of tissues called “Tapetum Lucidum”. This condition affects different animals. 1. Hairy Eyeball An extremely rare but real condition, the hairy eyeball condition, in which hair grows out of one’s eyes. It is caused by a rare tumor called limbal dermoid which may also cause sweat inside the eyeball. This mass, as you may tell, causes discomfort and vision problem, yet, it causes no pain and it can be surgically removed.
