According to the CDC, covid-19 infections don’t get worse with chills alone. According to infectious disease expert John A. Sellick, DO, professor of medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo, chills are seen in many other infections like influenza and bacterial pneumonia.
Furthermore, here is what experts say about chills in covid-19!
How common are chills in covid-19?
According to the US National Library of Medicine’s MedlinePlus, when a person experiences chills, there is shivering and paleness that further results in fever.
In most cases, chills are linked to fever. While suffering from fever, the body releases inflammatory
chemicals and substances to get rid of the illness.
While finding a way to get rid of this, your body temperature increases, and this results in making you feel cold and your muscles tend to get weak.
As this happens, your body would instantly look for a blanket to stay safe and be covered.
What Have
Studies Found?
In July, as per CDC studies, out of 164 symptomatic coronavirus patients, 63% reported having chills.
As per what was published in PLOS One, 2,834 reported having severe chills.
How Would You Know If Chills Is A Symptom of Covid-19?
Until and unless you are tested, it is not for certain that chills are a symptom of covid-19.
On the other hand, chills alone won’t be a symptom of covid-19, you might have another symptom as well.
Chills would be a part of the underlying symptom such as a fever, cough, or muscle aches.
If chills get worse, you should immediately reach you to your family doctor.
Ultimately, when in doubt of suffering from the infection, simply get tested for covid-19.
