Takeaways from the
Milken Global Conference: Building Meaningful Lives
JERRY: I think just going along with your introduction, what amazes me is there’s 4,000+ people here from 50 states and about 100+ countries and they all have one thing in mind and that is how to make the world function better. There are some very smart people. The heads of JP Morgan, Jaime Diamon. I was so impressed with what he had to say. In fact, he’s working for President Donald Trump and he was not a supporter of the President. I think he has an attitude that would be helpful for all of us to think about and that is once he was asked by Donald Trump to play a role, he says "okay, whatever I can do to help, even though I was not a supporter I’ll do my best." He wants to be part of the change. The change meaning a better life for more people, especially the people who are suffering the most. Those are the ones that, as you know, our hearts have always gone out to. KENDRA: I was so impressed by the fact that they actually brought in a thousand young adults around 30 years old from sub-Saharan Africa in order to educate them on finance and how to be the next business leaders and government leaders in those countries. That’s one of the biggest problems they’re facing right now is a lack of this kind of financial education.
that in the past, for developing countries, what we would see would be that they would get into agriculture and then light manufacturing, followed by heavy industry. This may never be true for Africa because there’s so much technology involved today and it’s so expensive to get into those industries. They’re seeing an entire generation coming where there’s going to be no jobs for them. JERRY: In fact, they said two-thirds of the jobs, that’s 66+ percent, of the jobs the middle class and so on have in developing countries, will be displaced by technology. And that’s frightening. KENDRA: And we know that the only way to destroy the poverty cycle that exists in our world is to have jobs and opportunity. JERRY: That’s right. And these are jobs in agriculture for example, jobs where people go to work every day and have a function and do things. As examples of jobs being displaced by technology, think about all of the taxi drivers right now that are being displaced by Uber, think about the hotel rooms in hotels that are not being built which involves construction workers which involves all the rest of it and that’s being displaced because Airbnb are allowing regular people to rent out their homes. So now we have the largest taxi company in the world Uber and they don’t own any cars. And the largest hotel company in the world and they don’t own any hotel rooms. They just allow us to rent our house if we want to. So these technology disruptions are happening everywhere, and have been for some years now. Think about Kodak 175,000 employees, they no longer exist, they went bankrupt, because now you carry around your camera in your phone. So technology is a disruption and it’s going to continue. But that leaves us in home-based business in a very good spot.
JERRY: In fact many of them were in the audience, introduced here. This gives me a lot of hope.
KENDRA: If you think about the implications of that it seems so simple. You could take taxi cab driver and train him to be a computer data scientist or a computer programmer. But it’s just not that simple.
KENDRA: This goes right along with what we heard from several of the speakers, one of them being the president of the World Bank Jim Yong Kim. Actually he was set out to destroy the World Bank before he became president of it. He didn’t understand exactly what they were doing. He said
JERRY: It’s not that simple and the other frightening thing is that a large number of high school students today, when they finish their education if they go on to college, the jobs and the skills they’re being trained for those jobs will no longer be there. It’s all changing so fast. I as you

JERRY: It goes back to one of our principals of our businesses: care about people. You know you don’t think of Michael Milken, one of the brightest minds in the world in the area of business and finance and allocation of capital, but there he is dedicating absolutely hundreds of hundreds of millions of dollars and raising the money even through this event. All this money is a gift to charity that comes in here and that’s a lot of money.
WELCOME TO THE FOUNDER’S TABLE
KENDRA: Hello and welcome to this episode of the Founder’s Table. It’s Kendra and Jerry here and we are in Los Angeles currently and we just got through with our first two days of being at this business conference that we go to every year called the Milken Global Conference. The theme this year is building meaningful lives. The Milken Institute is a not-forprofit nonpartisan enterprise and they’re working to increase global prosperity by advancing collaborative solutions that widen access to capital, that create jobs, and improve health. They bring together thought leaders from across many industries and sectors including government and private business as well as health and education.

know didn’t get a formal education past high school. Yet, I consider myself today educated in the areas that are important to me. I think that’s something all of us can do. Make a commitment that we’re going to gain knowledge. And knowledge is a key in the areas that are important to us and our businesses. No matter what it is, get more knowledge about the subjects and about the things that we’re doing. In our world it’s nutrition, it’s operating a small business, it’s self-improvement knowledge. KENDRA: Absolutely, and that’s what NeoLife offers. JERRY: Absolutely. And I think that NeoLife allows us that once we gain this knowledge, we have a place to put it to work. Something we can go do. It’s not enough to have knowledge, you have to then be committed to use your knowledge and have the opportunity to use it. Then you start this growth process. It’s not anything we should get nervous about like we have to become these great leaders overnight. No, just do the simple things that we do every day and as we do them we eliminate the fear involved and we become better at whatever it is we have to do. In our case, I’ve always tried to get better at talking to people, representing the products, giving a talk, and better at understanding business in general. KENDRA: Michael Milken, the founder of the Milken Institute. An incredible man who is dedicated to making the world better. He has relationships with so many respected people and across all different industries and he was talking to the US Surgeon General who was asked "what is the biggest disease in America today?" The answer surprised me. He said, "it’s not cancer, it’s not heart disease. It’s isolation. The pronounced isolation that so many people are experiencing. That is the great pathology of our lives today.
Words and thoughts are so powerful and we see the evidence here of people who have had lifechanging thoughts and dreams and then have made them come into fruition. It’s almost like whatever you can think about and dream about and talk about and plan and dedicate your life to, you can make it happen. And we see it here. We were sitting there with the CEO of eBay and with just the most fabulous minds from around the world. To hear them talk about the simple things in their lives was great. And they all for the most part started from humble beginnings. KENDRA: There was a lot of talk about technology and not only the job displacement but also just the disruption that’s happening in so many industries. Something that stood out to me was said by the Chief Legal Counsel for Airbnb, a lady, and she said that computers and A.I. (artificial intelligence) simply cannot replace the human element. That’s something that has been crucial to the success of Airbnb. The relationships formed between the host and the people staying in the house. Human connection can’t be automated. This entire conference was giving me so much confidence in the future for NeoLife because everything that they’ve been saying just plays right into what we’re doing. We can have the technology, and the apps and the back office, but there’s nothing that will be able to replace human connection.

hose of us living out the second half of life know how important it is to do everything within our own control to make sure it’s a beautiful journey of graceful ageing, memorable experiences, and lots of love. Do we want to be bogged down with aches and pains or blindsided with health challenges? No thank you! While our chronological age (based on the number of years lived) doesn’t have a reverse switch, our diet and lifestyle choices can impact our biological age, which is how our body looks and feels. Someone who leads a healthy lifestyle may have a chronological age of 40, but can run around with his or her kids with the energy and metabolism of a 25 year old! Although we first begin to notice signs of ageing in our outer appearance, ageing is actually a process that occurs at the cellular level and impacts our entire body. The rate at which our cells age will vary from person to person, and this is based on several factors. Food and lifestyle habits are within our own control and can have a huge impact on our health outcome and quality of life. Unfortunately, we often take our health for granted and ignore the choices that

LOWER YOUR RISK WITH BREAKFAST Having regular meals is a good lifestyle habit, and there’s nothing better to provide energy for the day than to have a good breakfast. And as it turns out, eating breakfast in the morning can be good for your heart too! A study conducted by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health, followed nearly 27,000 men for 16 years to track their eating habits with the risk of cardiovascular disease later in life.1 What they found was that those who routinely skipped breakfast had a 27% higher risk of having a heart attack or dying from coronary heart disease compared to those who ate breakfast. They propose that by skipping breakfast and not providing your body with energy in the morning, you are potentially putting a strain on the body, which after many years, can affect insulin sensitivity, which can lead to [type-2] diabetes, and it can lead to high blood pressure, and eventually heart disease.
Fibre is currently being studied for its heart protective effects. Northwestern University published a study in 2012 that highlighted the importance of making critical hearthealthy lifestyle changes during our younger years.2 The study analysed data of 11,000 adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and found that young (20-39 year) and middle-aged adults (40-59 years) who had higher intakes of fibre had a lower lifetime risk of cardiovascular disease. Ensuring adequate intake now, they concluded, could potentially protect the heart later in life. Fibre is found in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and nuts, so adding these to our diet can possibly add years to our life. The American Heart Association recommends 25g or more of dietary fibre per day. Based on these findings, we vote yes on the superpowers!
HELLO BRAIN, REMEMBER THIS! A recent study found that people who ate a diet of baked or grilled, but not fried, fish had larger volumes in areas of the brain used for memory and cognition.3 The omega-3s in fish may be associated with improved brain health and function. Regular use of fish oil supplements, in particular, were associated with less cognitive decline in older adults, in a study conducted at Rhode Island Hospital.4

will keep our cells alive and well. How many times have we missed an evening walk to sit in front of the television? Or opted for the convenience of a drive-thru? Or picked up unhealthy snacks from the vending machine? The good news is that it is never too late to make changes; we can slow ageing at the cellular level and maintain a youthful body for years to come by making the right choices now. Age is nothing but a number and this issue of News You Can Use highlights some of the latest findings in this area of research to help you find ways to stay youthful.

There’s also a growing body of science connecting blood sugar levels to our cognitive processes. In 2013, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine measured the blood sugar levels of 2,067 participants (who did not have dementia) and found that higher glucose levels were a risk factor for dementia later in life, even among people without diabetes.6 And more recently, a study conducted on 141 healthy adults, found that those with chronically elevated blood sugar levels, even within what is considered the normal range, performed worse on a recall test. The study author commented that this may be due to the fact that rising glucose levels in the body could potentially disrupt the use of glucose in the hippocampus (the part of the brain that is responsible for memory). The best way to help control blood sugar? The researchers recommend consuming a diet rich in fibre, vegetables, fruit, fish, and whole grain products.7
OMEGA-3 SALMON OIL PLUS Research has shown that fish-derived omega-3 fatty acids are vital to brain development and function as well as long term brain health. Each 3 capsule serving provides all 8 omega-3s in standardised amounts for a total of 1,070mg of omega-3 fatty acids.* #2672, 90 capsules
Another study found that nuts also contain nutrients that may benefit the brain. The researchers believe that the nuts can contribute to improved cognitive function by their: › lipid-lowering effect › improvement in inflammatory markers › decreasing of insulin resistance › improvement in endothelial function.5

SMALL CHANGES NOW, BIG RESULTS LATER Age-related health issues do not show in the early adult years, but nutrient-rich foods and good eating habits can boost our health and may protect us from some of the health issues that occur later in life. In commentary published in July 2014 in the journal Nature, a group of experts on ageing proposed using lifestyle interventions, such as a healthy diet and exercise programme, to downregulate ageing pathways. In fact, they write that there is some preliminary evidence that people who eat fewer kilojoules while getting optimal nutrition have "younger, more flexible hearts, lower blood pressure, and less inflammation in their bodies.8 So what does it mean to get optimal nutrition? Keep reading to find out.

and vitamins. Dietary carotenoids and flavonoids for instance, are found in high amounts in carrots and berries, and act as bioactive protectants in the body. A study conducted in more than 2,000 Chinese adults evaluated the protective effects of carotenoids on metabolic syndrome (a group of risk factors associated with increased risk of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes). They found that higher carotenoid levels in the body (as alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin) were associated with a lower rate of metabolic syndrome and abnormal metabolism values among middle-aged and older Chinese adults.9 A further study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition looked at the effect of flavonoid intakes during middle adult years on maintaining good health and wellbeing later in life. The researchers included 13,818 middle-aged, healthy women from the Nurses’ Health Study and followed them until their 70s. They found that the women with higher intakes of flavonoids had a greater likelihood of health and wellbeing in older age.10 In addition to anti-oxidative effects, the nutrients in vegetables can also have an antiinflammatory effect in our bodies. A study evaluating the association between vegetable intake and inflammatory and oxidative stress markers among middle-aged adults, found that intakes of cruciferous vegetables lead to anti-inflammatory benefits.11
PREVENT BONE LOSS One of the most important things to ensure during early and middle adulthood is the maintenance of your bone mass. Peak bone mass is typically reached around age 30 after which, men and particularly
women, will experience a decrease in bone density. Although you may not be able to increase bone density after that, adequate intake of bone health nutrients can help prevent age related bone loss. PHYTODEFENCE

Excessive loss of bone mass can lead to osteoporosis, which is why it is important for both men and women to preserve bone mass now as much as possible. We can ensure this by consuming adequate amounts of these nutrients: › Calcium – to build strong bones › Vitamin D – to help increase calcium absorption › Magnesium – to retain bone strength This is especially important for those who are battling weight gain. A recent study found that ensuring adequate intake of protein while on a weight loss programme, may counter this effect because it stimulates growth factors and increases intestinal calcium absorption. Thus, researchers suggest that higher-protein diets should be used in conjunction with a weight loss programme to help maintain bone mineral density.12

We know we can’t always avoid stressors in our life, but one thing we can do to prepare for that is to have healthy food choices in our refrigerators and cabinets so that when those stressors come up, we can reach for something healthy rather than going to a very convenient but high-fat choice." -Dr. Martha Belury, co-author of the study conducted at Ohio State University
Evidence suggests that choosing highprotein foods may actually affect our body composition as well. A recent randomised controlled overfeeding study, designed to look at where we gain weight on our body, found that there were significant differences between how the body stored its extra kilojoules.13 16 healthy individuals were fed a low, normal, or high protein diet for eight weeks. Those who consumed normal - and high-protein diets stored 45% of their kilojoules as muscle, but the participants on a lowprotein diet stored 95% of their excess kilojoules as fat. This study shows that the composition of our diets really does impact how our bodies respond. In other words, you are what you eat.

DEFEAT ENEMY #1: STRESS Stress is a part of everyday life. However, studies have found that long-term chronic stress may contribute to accelerated cellular ageing and premature ageing of our organs and appearance. Luckily, we can prepare ourselves for the stress to come and buffer against its damaging effects. A recent study from the University of California, San Francisco found that while one cannot stop or prevent stress, its negative effects could be reduced by maintaining a healthy diet, exercising, and sleeping 14 STRESS well. This study followed 239 post-menopausal women for a year and examined the effect of their lifestyle habits on the telomere length of their immune cells. What the researchers found was that for women who were exposed to accumulated stress, but engaged in the healthy behaviours, their telomeres had less shortening than those of individuals
who ate poorly, participated in little physical activity, and did not have adequate sleep. This was the first study of its kind to demonstrate that stressful events could accelerate the ageing of our immune cells. Additionally, it shows us that we have the ability to curtail this accelerated ageing by making simple lifestyle changes, such as getting adequate sleep, exercise, and eating a diet rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, low fat dairy and fish.

DON’T LET STRESS SLOW DOWN YOUR METABOLISM! Avoid emotional eating triggered by stress. In another study, researchers examined the detrimental effects of poor dietary habits on our metabolism during periods of high stress. This study was conducted at Ohio State University, where researchers evaluated the effect of a single high-fat meal in women after they experienced a stressful event.15 What they found was that women who were stressed 24 hours before they ate the high fat meal (equivalent in kilojoules and fat to a loaded two-patty hamburger and French fries) had a lower metabolic rate and burned 435 fewer kilojoules than the women who were not stressed and ate the same meal. This doesn’t sound like much, but an extra 435 kilojoules per day can equate to a 5 kilogram weight gain over the course of one year! What this study tells us is that eating healthy food is especially important when we’re stressed because our metabolism will have a much harder time burning off the extra kilojoules.

The World Health Organization and CDC are estimating that by 2020, 3 out of every 4 deaths are going to be caused by either cancer, diabetes, or heart disease. And to me, the most heartbreaking part about that statistic is the fact that these are diseases of lifestyle. It’s not like we can catch them from someone. We can’t come home from work and say "Bob from accounting gave me heart disease". No! A lot of times, the sad reality is that we do it to ourselves. Often times through the foods we eat and other unhealthy lifestyle factors.

We are committed to ending the trend of sickness and chronic disease that is literally destroying families around the world. It’s actually pretty scary when you look at the numbers.
Around the world, governments are starting to panic. They’re seeing the huge cost to society, and they are trying to find ways to stop it before it gets even more out of control. And they are admitting that they’re losing the battle. Which is kind of puzzling, because we know the problem and we also know the solution. Leading health authorities are telling us that the key to optimal long-term health & preventing chronic disease, is just three simple things – weight
management, physical activity, and a diet rich in the whole food nutrients found in whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and omega-3 rich fish. So what’s gone wrong? Obviously we still have a problem because the state of our health is still declining. The problem is that it’s nearly impossible to get enough of those nutrients through diet alone.
And that’s where we come in. We have a solution to bridge the gap that exists between diet and nutrition. Our exclusive, superior quality nutrition products use nature's finest whole food ingredients that are based in nature and backed by leading edge science.
Together we can be the solution. We can work to make a living, but live to make a difference. We can end the trend, using good nutrition as our weapon of choice. But like I said earlier, we can’t do it alone. Right now we’re going through an expansion phase and are on a search to find people to partner with who share our passion for helping others get charged up on good nutrition. At that event she even qualified for a place in the Senior Nationals – amazingly, when she should have been worn out, on her 7th and final race of the competition. Kiara will jet off in August to Indianapolis, in the USA, to represent South Africa at the FINA Junior World Swimming Championship. Kiara has big goals when it comes to swimming. "My next goal is to qualify for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. My ultimate dream is to swim at the Olympics. That’s just three years off, so I am working hard to achieving my dream."

SUPER KIDS IN THE MAKING lever parents know how important a role good nutrition plays in a child’s life. Balanced nutrition not only gives a child the competitive edge physically, but also helps greatly with cognitive development. Science has confirmed that nutrition is the foundation stones for healthy growth and development. The right balance of high
quality nutrition allows kids to function optimally, so they can feel like super kids ready to take on the world! Because parents are not expected to know everything about children’s nutrition, NeoLife has put together a handy Children’s Nutrition Brochure (#262). This is a quick guide to which NeoLife supplements will most benefit a child, how to use them and how much to be supplementing depending on the child’s age.

PRODUCTS
"Precisely at the time when young bodies’ nutritional requirements are greatest, many fail to obtain all the nutrients they need each day. Deficiencies of vital nutrients can inhibit not only physical growth, but internal development, mental performance, and repair and maintenance of developing tissues. Immune systems can be depressed as well, leaving the child more vulnerable to infection and disease."

LEADING BY EXAMPLE
Why am I doing this? This is a question to get our emotions running. Whereas the how is the doing. An extreme example: if I were to donate a kidney and focussed on the how I wouldn’t do it and I would probably quit. But if I focused on the why, which would be to keep my child alive, I would do it and would never quit on the idea. The same is true for your why in NeoLife. When your reason is so emotionally charged, the how will fall into place.
TIPS FROM NEOLIFE’S TOP ACHIEVERS • You lose moral authority if you are no longer doing what you tell the team to do. People do what you do, not what you say. You sponsor, they sponsor. You stop sponsoring, they stop sponsoring.
4 Ruby Directors, Josphat & Pearose Kariuki
SPONSORING & TEAM DEVELOPMENT Sponsoring is not part of the business, it is the business. The bigger the number of team members using the products, the larger the size of your business. But as we get new Distributors into the team, we need to be very careful not to recruit them, but to sponsor them. The two are very different. In recruiting, the work ends once the new person has joined. In sponsoring, the work begins once the new person has joined. The bigger element of recruiting is prospecting and building rapport with people before sponsoring them into the business. It is imperative for leaders to master the art of both prospecting and sponsoring and duplicate this down to their Distributors. Leaders should show practically how to sponsor rather than how to tell theoretically.
Why Continue Sponsoring? • Only those who keep sponsoring keep growing. • We are on a mission of touching lives and boosting people's health and finances.
16
When Do You Sponsor? The more you sponsor in your first few weeks (warm market mostly) the better. Do this before you start depending on "strangers" (cold market). As I help them to sponsor, I concurrently train my team on steps for sponsoring and soon they are doing it without me.
How Do You Sponsor? To effectively sponsor as many people over the time, I have consistently used (and I strongly recommend) the following steps particularly for new Distributors: • Identify and write down the friends you wish to sponsor. • It’s the duty of your Upline to guide when inviting prospects to an Opportunity Meeting. • Assure the invitee that you have attended a similar meeting and found there are good opportunities. • Commit that you will be there – and be there. This gives the guest confidence and drives away fear of meeting only strangers. • Tell them you haven’t understood much but you will be attending with them to understand more. This reduces too many questions that would corner you.
• Look and sound excited about your new venture, but avoid exaggerations – unrealistic promises will put people off. • Avoid premature disclosure of the nature of the opportunity. The words "opportunities", "part-time earning", "alleviating diseases and poverty" etc. are sufficient. • Be realistic in your expectation – Not everyone will join you! 80% might not join you, but they can form part of your customers if well handled.
Team Development The ultimate result of the above outline on sponsoring is building a big team. We need to both develop and maintain that team. This is where leadership is essential. Our work as leaders is to help Distributors grow step by step to the top. Some of the activities Pearose and I have employed to help the team keep making steps are: 1. Scheduled leadership trainings. 2. Be interested in your team. 3. Timely recognition and Incentives. 4. Participation in company events. 5. Mentorship – to grow the team, a leader must first connect with the individuals in the team. 6. Learn patience and teach patience. Remove the mindset of get rich quick.

FINDING & KEEPING CUSTOMERS AND TEAM DEVELOPMENT
CUSTOMERS The lifeblood of your business.
"Thoughts are things," says Napoleon Hill in his Think & Grow Rich book. They are powerful things and when they are mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire they can be turned into riches.
When you believe in your product, and you have a good mindset, you are like a magnet to customers. Are you committed to getting to know your products and love using them? Are you committed to converting your household over to the entire NeoLife range? Have you got your own unique story on some of the products? People buy you and your "story" before they buy your product.
So, with that in mind, lets us all ask ourselves - "How is my thinking - what do I think about - is my thinking filled with fear or filled with hope? Is my thinking affecting my results in my NeoLife Business? How can I improve? Would I like to do business with myself?"
Find their needs, listen for their needs, remember that most people have a fear of illness, and a desire for well-being. They are often confused by the media and all the choices they have. Move your listeners’ hearts with a story, and their feet and wallet will follow.
Fear is a lie and comes from limiting beliefs and self-doubt. Fear of rejection, fear of criticism, fear of poverty, fear of ill health etc. All these fears can be dealt with through your mindset and NeoLife Business Opportunity which gives you the answer to a great future. The one thing that we have absolute control over is our thought process. So, the first thing we do in business is ask how. How am I going to find customers, how am I going to develop my team, how can I help people understand? Instead of asking how first, rather ask why first.
There are two types of customers - independent and dependant. Be sensitive to what they are and serve them accordingly. I love to link my customers with a buying number so they receive all the discount benefits. Others prefer personal service and connection. Ensure a good follow-up system for reservicing and informing them. Your independent customers often become the source of good Distributors if you are able to develop a trusting relationship.

TEAM DEVELOPMENT Know Your Why The good news is that you are not dead and there is time to grow your business and take it to the next level! You are either growing or dying. Your bank account is either growing or dying. Your team is either growing or dying. Nothing just ‘toddles’ along everything is either growing or dying, including one’s mind. Remember to have a strong why reason bigger than yourself. Have you bought into the NeoLife Purpose "End the Trend of disease and poverty"? To help your team build, let’s begin with asking them why they need to get their 3-in-30, why they need to use the products, why they need to connect with training events, why we need to have a good mindset at meetings. All this creates momentum and leads to growth in everyone’s business. Our why is to be different, to be involved in free enterprise, to have a legacy to hand on to our future family, and to have fun while travelling the world – all of which we have achieved through NeoLife. We learnt the How from the action we took, learning from our failures and reliving our successes. Avoid people who are negative, instead surrounded yourself with people with a can-do attitude, enthusiasm, courage and discipline. NeoLife is results driven. Your business must be results driven. Each team member should be "next step driven" and focussed on it spending 100% of their time on developing and following up. How you change is how you succeed, and remember, for results to change, we need to change. Life always rewards those who take action.

Talk of climate change is on the lips of
everyone. Across the world we’ve seen extreme weather patterns wreak havoc in communities’ lives. In many parts of Africa severe drought has become an everyday reality, with the situation in areas like the Western Cape in South Africa reaching critical proportions. Now, more than ever, is the time to find ways to utilise water to the maximum. By adding very little Super Gro to water when irrigating plants you will make a huge difference in helping your water go so much further.
