About Dr. Rekha Tailor Dr Rekha Tailor founded Health & Aesthetics and is its Medical Director. She has been a qualified Medical Practitioner since 1989 and an Aesthetic Practitioner since 2005. She is a fully accredited Aesthetic Practitioner and General Practitioner. She trained at Manchester Medical School. Dr Tailor is one of the UK’s leading non-surgical cosmetic specialists and is known for her light touch and incredibly natural looking results. She has received specialist training in the use and administration of all products and treatments offered by the clinic. She is a full member of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine (BCAM) and the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).

Dr. Rekha’s Story “As a GP I saw a lot of patients with skin issues including acne, rosacea, pigmentation and scars. I saw the distress that they suffered and wanted to help them find a solution. I also had acne rosacea which was affecting me and was not settling with conventional treatments, such as antibiotic creams or tablets. I then heard about laser treatments, which were relatively new at the time and decided to look into this. I wanted to learn more about laser treatments and their applications and so I attended teaching hospitals in London to sit in the clinics to learn and observe. I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors (now the BCAM). I was thrilled to be invited to the meeting at the BACD and heard about the array of non-surgical cosmetic treatments which was all new to a traditional General Practitioner. I was fascinated and interested, so was determined to learn more.

I attended other national training meetings and national conferences across the UK. My interest grew as I developed more knowledge and trained to be a practitioner administering injectable treatments. From 2005 I started treating a small number of patients but, for me, this wasn’t enough. I wanted to help more people and offer an array of treatments and so decided to open a clinic and to leave General Practice. I opened Health & Aesthetics in 2008. Not only have I been able to help thousands of patients, but I have also treated my own acne rosacea. Although I could not have the appropriate laser treatment due to my skin type, I have been able to treat it with cosmeceuticals and skin peels, leaving me with clear skin. I am proud to work in the industry I do and strive to maintain the highest standards, and offer the latest treatments to my patients. I want all of my patients to walk into our clinic and feel safe and informed and walk out looking confident and natural.

Double Chin Injection While BELKYRA® is new to the UK, it has been popular for a number of years in the USA, where it is known as Kybella. It has now been passed by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) for release in the UK. What Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections? Anti-Wrinkle injections involve using small quantities of Botulinum Toxin. These are injected into specific muscles using an ultra-fine needle to immobilise the muscle. This stops the muscles from contracting, while the rest of the face continues to move. This creates a natural softening to your dynamic lines and wrinkles giving you a natural, fresh, and rejuvenated appearance. We do not believe in giving our patients a ‘frozen’ expression and strive for natural results. Botulinum Toxin is perfectly safe and has been used on millions of patients worldwide for over 20 years. What is ClearLift Laser Facelift? The ClearLift Laser Facelift is a 1064nm pixel Q-Switched laser which emits short powerful bursts of light. This light goes as deep as 3mm into the skin and creates tiny injuries beneath the skin. By creating these tiny wounds the ClearLift stimulates a healing response. As these micro-wounds heal the body produces more collagen and elastin helping the skin to regenerate and look more youthful. Although ClearLift Laser creates micro wounds these are all in the lower layers of the skin (dermis) and do not affect the upper layers of the skin (epidermis). This means that you suffer virtually no pain and there is no visible damage to the skin. You will require no numbing prior to treatment. Due to the nature of the laser you can return to work and resume daily life immediately after the treatment. What is the ClearSkin Laser? Clearskin is a laser treatment which is designed to treat all forms of acne vulgaris including papules, pustules and nodules by penetrating the skin and destroying the acne bacteria. ClearSkin combines this laser with vacuum technology to extract accumulated sebaceous material from the pores. It also treats blackheads, oily skin and open pores. By combining the laser and the vacuum technology, the skin is left clearer with reduced scarring and diminished congestion in the pores. ClearSkin is part of our FDA approved Harmony Laser treatments by Alma lasers and is suitable for all skin types. Unfortunately it is not suitable for all skin colours, for those with darker skin types we would recommend alternative treatments such as the FDA approved SkinPen for acne scarring.

How many treatments of ClearSkin will I need? For those with active acne we would recommend a course of 6-12 treatments at 2-3 weekly intervals. After this is complete 1-2 maintenance sessions at 6 months would be recommended.

What is the aftercare? As with any laser staying out of the sun and using a high SPF is essential and this should be continued for at least 2 months to avoid pigmentation. Keeping heat to a minimum is recommended by avoiding

Dermal Fillers Dermal fillers come in many shape and forms. At Health & Aesthetics, we use Juvederm fillers which are produced by Allergan (the producers of Botox®). For lips we also use the FDA approved Boletero fillers. Juvederm and Boletero are crosslinked hyaluronic acid, which varies in thickness and texture, to fill areas suffering from diminished volume and lines and wrinkles. For hand treatments, we use FDA approved Radiesse fillers. Radiesse is made from calcium hydroxylapatite (a mineral found in human teeth and bones) which is suspended in a water-based, gel-like solution. At Health & Aesthetics we believe in providing our patients with a natural result which means not dramatically changing your appearance but providing you with a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.

What are Dermal Fillers? Dermal fillers are used to treat lines and wrinkles and areas of the face and body which have lost volume. By restoring this lost volume the treatment area is plumped to create a lift thereby rejuvenating areas that need more volume. This also improves the structure of the face and texture of the skin by restoring hydration. At Health & Aesthetics we use Juvederm and Boletero fillers. These are FDA approved so they are proven to be both safe and effective. It is important when looking at fillers to consider who is injecting you and what they are injecting as the UK is severely under-regulated. Dermal Fillers are gels made from crosslinked hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid can hold 100x its weight in water so when it is injected, it attracts water from the surrounding tissues helping the skin to retain moisture, adding plumpness and smoothing lines of the treatment area. Juvederm have an extensive range of fillers that vary in thickness and can therefore be used to treat different areas. Juvederm Volux is a new filler specifically developed for the jawline and chin is a thicker, sculpting filler, whereas Juvederm Voluma is a thinner filler specifically designed to restore lost volume in the cheek area. The choice of filler will be made under guidance from your doctor during the consultation ensuring the right filler is used for your specific need.

What is the iPixel Erbium Laser? The iPixel Erbium is part of our FDA approved Harmony laser which is both safe and effective. iPixel Erbium laser uses short intense bursts of laser to ablate some points of the outer layer of the skin leaving islands of normal tissue in between so that the skin heals quickly. When treating the skin with the iPixel Erbium laser, it heats the surface layers or the skin and evaporates the water to resurface the area. This leaves the skin with tiny areas (pixels) which have been removed while the surrounding skin is intact. The body then produces volumes of collagen and elastin to repair the skin leaving you with new, healthier skin which is smoother and has less lines and wrinkles. What is the CO² Laser Treatment? The CO2 laser offers an intense resurfacing treatment to patients. It is often known as the Madonna Eye Lift due to its exceptional results at reducing lines and hooding around the eyes. However, it does not treat just the eyes. It can be used for scarring especially those with heavy deep scars from acne. The CO2 laser uses a matrix of light points which vary in intensity depending on the treatment area and the desired result. It is an ablative laser which means it quickly heats up the water in the skin causing it to evaporate (ablate). The treatment leaves islands of normal tissue in between the treated areas so the skin can heal quickly. Treatment is certainly not pain-free, but we apply a topical numbing agent to the treatment area to minimize discomfort. CO2 Laser treatments produce a longer downtime as the skin has been ablated, meaning five days downtime is likely but this can be reduced significantly with the Dermalux LED Light therapy immediately after the laser treatment and following our aftercare regime. Rosacea Rosacea is an exceptionally common condition of the skin whereby skin becomes flushed and red resulting in swelling. It can sometimes also cause breakouts and pustules in the affected area. This is due to excess sebum blocking pores which then becomes infected with P. Acnes bacteria. In some patients, around the nose, the skin can become thicker, swollen and purple called rhinophyma. What is Laser Skin Rejuvenation? Laser Skin Rejuvenation is an IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment. The pigmentated area is exposed to short pulses of light which helps to break down the melanin that is responsible for pigmentation in the skin. When laser light is shone onto the pigment – the pigment absorbs the light and becomes oxidised and will turn darker. This will then flake off during the week after treatment and reduces dark patches on the skin. These will appear darker immediately after the treatment and will initially develop a small crust before falling off leaving you with a more even skin tone.

What is SkinPen? SkinPen is a small device with 12 microneedles which can go to a depth of between 0.25mm to 2.5mm depending on the treatment area. This means the practitioner can treat more areas of the face and body and achieve more targeted results especially for the eye, mouth and nose areas. As it is a pen, it uses vertical movement only for the needling process. This means there is less drag on the skin in comparison to other microneedles especially those on rolling devices, which causes drag and trauma to the skin. The SkinPen, which is the device used at Health & Aesthetics can produce 1300 holes per second in the skin which massively enhances the effectiveness while giving a safe rejuvenation to the skin. What is a Thread Lift? At Health & Aesthetics we use Silhoutte Soft threads and PDO (Polydioxanone) threads. These are inserted just beneath the skin to produce a 1-2cm lift. In addition to the lift, due to the threads you will also produce more collagen and elastin after the treatment leading to rejuvenation of the skin. The threads used fully dissolve over 6-12 months and in this time they stimulate fibroblast cells to produce more collagen which further rejuvenates and brightens the skin.

What is Ultherapy? Ultherapy is often compared to HiFu but it is a much superior treatment. Ultherapy works by using Micro Focused Ultrasound into targeted layers of the skin. Ultherapy uses patented DeepSee technology which means the technician can see the layers of the skin that needs to be treated. Without this the treatment is considered ‘blind’. A blind treatment should be avoided as the technician would not know if they are treating the right layer of the dermis, or bone, or fat. Hitting bone would cause significant pain and treating fat would cause fat loss, which will result in a loss of volume. Since Ultherapy uses Micro-Focused technology rather than High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HiFu), this means that it targets a specific, pin-point area, creating better, more targeted results. The MFU targets layers of the dermis creating micro-wounds. When you create these tiny wounds underneath the skin collagen and elastin production is stimulated resulting in a lifted appearance and regenerating the skin. While this treatment isn’t considered painful, it can become uncomfortable. This can be minimized by taking painkillers an hour prior to treatment.

How can I treat my fungal nail infection? The main cause of a fungal nail infection is caused by a fungus called dermatophyte. Fungal nail infections in the toes are often caused by athletes foot which spreads to the toenail. In short, a fungal nail infection is caused by overgrown fungus in, under or around the nail. These fungi thrive in moist and warm environments making the toenail a prime area for an infection to occur. It can also occur from unclean tools in nail salons where hygiene is not taken seriously. Although there are many medications and over the counter treatments for a fungal nail infection, these are lengthy and unreliable. At Health & Aesthetics we use a laser to treat this infection. The Harmony laser system uses a light which transmits through the nail plate and into the nail bed where it is absorbed by the pigment in the fungus causing them to die and the infection to resolve. During the treatment the laser heats up the nail bed breaking the hard outer shell of the fungal spore. This heat is then absorbed by the fungal spore deactivating it.

What is the aftercare? Apply the topical treatments recommended over the counter to keep the area clean and disinfected. Air the toe for 24 hours and keep the toes clean and dry to prevent new fungus being produced.
