One of Australia’s foremost TV production companies, CJZ, is developing a documentary series looking behind the scenes of a medical practice. CJZ produces series like Bondi Rescue and Go Back to Where You Came From, as well as programs that demand highly sensitive access portraying police, paramedics and the court system. “GPs are at the coalface of our medical system,” says CJZ executive producer Michael Cordell, who wants to make a popular series celebrating the work of GPs and their daily doses of medical and social problems. “We’re very open-minded about who to follow,” he says. “It could be a busy city practice, a surgery in a diverse multicultural community, or a one-pub town. All we ask for are doctors who are open to share their stories.” Cordell acknowledges patients may be reluctant, but he has been surprised by how many are willing to share when approached with honesty and empathy. “I imagine there will be moments of humour, tragedy and everything in between,” he says.
