A great vision is worth the wait.

Nearly 20 years ago, several of Denver’s leading

pediatric physicians, subspecialists and surgeons — along with maternal-fetal specialists and neonatologists — envisioned a leading regional pediatric care team that provided comprehensive care for families,

from conception to birth and continuing through adolescence into adulthood. Central to this vision was the honored tradition of doctors and nurses using their skill, creativity and utmost compassion to bring every child the best possible care. >>> continues

The originators of this vision began their journey by relocating their practices to Presbyterian/ St. Luke’s Medical Center (P/SL). HealthONE President and CEO, Jeff Dorsey referred to the founding vision during the groundbreaking ceremony, “HealthONE’s new pediatric hospital, Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children (RMHC) at P/SL, will help us meet the burgeoning demands we now have from families from across the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains for specialized children’s medical services. And, because RMHC will also have a presence at all of our acute care hospitals, newborns, children and teenagers across the Metro Denver area will have high-

caliber pediatric care — close to home — from the people they already trust for their healthcare.” “Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center is a worldclass children’s hospital-within-a-hospital.

We’ve been here for many years — and we’ve simply outgrown our space,” President and CEO Mimi Roberson explained further. “Clearly,

the best decision for our adult patients as well as our youngest patients was to create a new, state-of-the-

art facility that offers a nurturing environment so our medical staff can continue to serve all our patients — whether they are high-risk newborns, children, teenagers or adults. RMHC gives the Rocky Mountain region another choice for their healthcare needs.”

The central location (downtown Denver) of Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at P/SL has expanded pediatric services to include neurosurgery, sports medicine, bone marrow transplants, neurology and nephrology, all of which will be integrated into the entire system of hospitals. HealthONE’s

other hospitals also will open pediatric multispecialty clinics for the convenience of families who live in the surrounding areas.
