The projected number of people with dementia in 2050 is now 17 percent higher than ADI estimated in the 2009 World Alzheimer Report. According to a study in the Journal of the American Heart Association, dementia risk might rise for older women with heart disease. The study observed 6,500 U.S. women aged 65 to 79 who had healthy brain function. It was found that those with heart disease were 29 percent more likely to experience mental decline over time than those without heart disease.
