July 2014 Keeping Sun Safety A HOT Topic! Do you find that every spring/summer you just dread promoting sun safety? With skin cancer being the most common form of cancer, this is not a topic we can avoid in the workplace. But how do you keep sun safety fresh and exciting? 1. Cancer stories/testimonials: Having employees share their experience with skin cancer is a great way to engage employees in your sun safety messaging. Many people affected by skin cancer are happy to share their story. 2. Hand out sunscreen samples: Protection is key and having a travel size sunscreen in your car, purse or desk can really come in handy when you need to be outside for extended periods of time.

3. P romote a skin screening: Bring in a dermatologist or encourage employees to attend a local clinic’s skin screening.

4. H ost a health fair/outdoor fair: Include vendors that have sun safety products, have an “Ask the Doctor/Nurse” booth, have displays/posters/handouts with sun safety information, etc.

Sun burn is harmful to our skin and those with naturally darker or olive skin-tone, like myself, are still at risk for skin cancer.
