DEMOGRAPHICS: Currently have 707 employees. 487 are women with an average age of 52. 220 are men with an average age of 51.

HSS Role: Wellness Program Management

WHY WELLNESS? This company wanted to implement a wellness program that would empower employees to take action on improving their health. To ensure employees felt supported they wanted to focus on providing educational resources, fun challenges and incentives.

CHALLENGES With multiple locations and multiple shifts, the biggest challenge was reaching all employees. In addition, they wished to increase utilization of the online wellness tools available to their Medica Members, but also include all employees in various healthy living campaigns.

SOLUTIONS HealthSource Solutions was pulled in to help launch their wellness program in 2016. The focus for the first year was to establish a strong infrastructure to create a sustainable wellness program. The goals set in 2016 would frame up the launching of the new wellness program and help integrate the My Health Rewards platform through Medica. 1. Create an infrastructure to advance a culture of health • Metric: Launch wellness committee in February 2016 • Metric: Establish a wellness champions network by April 2016 • Metric: Integrate 5 elements of wellbeing into programming 2. Provide wellness opportunities that engage all associates • Metric: 85% participation in biometric screening • Metric: 50% completion of health assessment 3. Educate associates on how to maintain and improve their wellbeing • Metric: 50% of eligible earn 400+ points on My Health Rewards 4. Use competitions, recognition and incentives to drive engagement • Metric: 35% participation in Shape Up Challenge

IMPACT In 2018, this company has a robust wellness program with strong leadership support and active engagement. They have: • Built a thriving wellness committee with 8 members and 23 wellness champions • Created a culture of wellness by making the wellness program visible to all employees through monthly wellness updates, bulletin boards and new hire brochures. • Established vegetable gardens at all locations for the benefit of employees • Increased biometric screening participation from 76% to 91% in first year • Increased health assessment participation from 24% to 38% in first year • Achieved the 2017 Hennepin County Wellness by Design platinum level award
