Six Flags Great America’s 15th and First Ever Free-Fly Roller Coaster
TO UNLEASH COMPLETE CHAOS IN 2017
Six Flags Great America, the Thrill Capital of the Midwest, and Warner Bros Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment, announce plans for its 15th and most maniacal roller coaster to date, the all-new free-fly coaster, THE JOKER. This insanely twisted chaos coaster will be a massive new centerpiece in the Yankee Harbor section of the park, next to BATMAN The Ride roller coaster. “We are excited to continue our partnership with the DC brand as it continues to resonate well with our guests. THE JOKER is undeniably one of the greatest SuperVillains of all time,” said Hank Salemi, Six Flags Great America park president. “This free-fly coaster will perfectly capture the essence of the warped and unpredictable nature of THE JOKER. It will take our park to the next level of thrills.”

After being lifted straight up a 12-story, 90-degree hill, the free-fly coaster will wreak havoc as riders flip headover-heels at least six times along the weightless journey. Thrill seekers will experience exhilarating leaps and dives along a horizontal plane with unexpected drops as they tumble from one level to the next. The wing seats amp up the pandemonium since riders will experience this wild adventure with no track above or below ─ just the sky, ground and plenty of sinister thrills. The unique design of THE JOKER features: Massive, imposing, floating and twisting I-box track frame in a unique two-tone design; One-of-a-kind onboard magnetic technology featuring smooth head-over-heels free-fly flips providing guests the feeling of weightlessness as they soar outside the confines of a traditional track; 4-D wing vehicles that seat up to 8 per vehicle with a total of 5 vehicles; Face-off seats that allow riders to face each other as they tumble head over heels; A 120-foot-tall, 90-degree hill that is ascended by an elevator-style, chain link lift; and Two beyond 90-degree “raven” drops giving the sensation of free-falling. THE JOKER is expected to unleash total mayhem beginning in the spring of 2017, and join the ranks of all a long line of legendary roller coasters at Six Flags Great America. Six Flags Great America is also announcing the start of 2017 Season Pass sales with its special Flash Sale through Labor Day weekend featuring the best deal of the year – savings up to 70% off on 2017 Passes! September 1 through September 5, guests will receive a free upgrade to a Gold Season Pass with every Pass purchased. Gold Season Passes include admission to both Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor, and any other Six Flags theme park, as well as free parking and special admission for friends. 2017 Season Passes provide unlimited visits to Fright Fest® at Six Flags Great America in 2016 and all of 2017. Passholders may also purchase a Premium Season Dining Pass, which includes a lunch, dinner, and snack during every park visit, plus they will receive a 2017 All Season Sport Bottle for unlimited drink refills. UWM hosts WISCONSIN SCIENCE FESTIVAL IN MILWAUKEE OCT. 21-23 By: uwnews Dive into Lake Michigan without getting wet, learn the secrets of glow-in-thedark microbes and see how Iron Age people made ale (and get a taste) when the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee hosts the Wisconsin Science Festival in Milwaukee Oct. 21-23. The statewide festival is produced by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, UW-Madison and the Morgridge Institute for Research. But Milwaukee’s featured partner is UWM, offering 11 free, interactive programs targeted at adults and high school students. See the lineup at uwm.edu/sciencefest. “This is a festival for grown-up kids. These programs offer a brush with the spectacle of science, and the thrill of learning something interesting in a hands-on, celebratory environment, said Phyllis King, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs. The programs are not strictly limited to science topics. Instead, the festival has a “STEAM theme, displaying the wonders of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. The signature program on Saturday night at Wisconsin Lutheran College’s Schwan Concert Hall is a perfect example. Think of “Big Ideas for Busy People as “speed dating with research – an allstar, interdisciplinary faculty cast will present a series of provocative ideas that have surfaced in research so the rest of us can understand the amazingness. But here’s the hitch: Each speaker has only five minutes to present and just five minutes for followup questions before it’s on to the next hot topic. It’s a night of knowledge nuggets – from black holes to green energy. To recognize the 50th anniversary of UWM’s first doctoral degree program, festival programming will include two shorter “Big Ideas programs at area coffeehouses that feature some of the university’s doctoral students. They will present their “big ideas in a variety of fields – in only five minutes, with five minutes of follow-up questions. Also on tap is a show at SC Johnson in Racine that features a multimedia presentation about Frank Lloyd Wright’s early inspirations. That show includes a tour of the SC Johnson campus, where Wright designed two of the company’s office buildings. Back at the UWM campus, don’t miss night-sky viewing at the Manfred Olson Planetarium that is blended with theater performances; workshops on the internetconnected world; and tours of the Zilber School of Public Health labs, where scientists probe things in the environment that can make you sick.

Contrary to popular belief there are a multitude of job openings in a variety of fields especially for those with a college degree. The difference between now and year’s passed is that today’s employer may be seeking individuals with more than an undergrad degree. The fields with the most promise haven’t changed much in recent years with computer technology being red hot as always. Anything computer is sure to be profitable with programming and network design leading the way. Demand for website design seems to be slightly on the decline because of the glut of would-be designers. Nurses are in high demand because of hospital’s need to cut costs. Nurses are now doing far more than they did in previous years, because they are cheaper to pay than doctors. This doesn’t mean nurses don’t get paid well. The starting salary for many nurses is around $50,000 and if you are interested in high paying part time work, there are employment agencies that will pay as much as $50/hour and provide medical benefits even for part time workers. On a similar note, paralegals fill the same need in the world of law. Paralegals are performing many tasks that lawyers did in the old days because they are paid a fraction of the price. Veterinarians are always in high demand and are listed by the Better Business Bureau as one of the most bankable professions with the least amount of financial risk. Many vets are making over $100,000. Human resource professionals will be big because of the recent trend of changing jobs every few years. Companies will be looking for people with a keen eye for talent. This is no longer considered a “throw away” job at most companies because the turnover is so high that companies need to find someone who can spot a long term employee. For the entrepreneurs among us, information technology is huge. This is one of the big businesses of the future. Being able to provide businesses with huge mailing lists and other researched information about consumers and other businesses will continue to be a very hot field. Many predict that business will soon find a way to send effective spam mail that is not considered an annoyance because it is well targeted. This will take competent research and should provide some great opportunities for the industrious entrepreneur. Coffee shops will continue to be big business for the person who is interested in being self employed. Coffee has been huge business for the last several years and there is no slow down cited in the future. Another less glamorous but high paying entrepreneurial venture is toner refilling. This business should absolutely explode in the years to come with profit margins of 3-400 percent on every refill. And a job definitely not to forget is Ebay seller. People are making a bundle doing this and there is no reason why this profession will slow down at all. Because Ebay is getting a little crowded and competitive, it will take a savvy thinker to come up with the right products to sell. A field to avoid in the upcoming years is teacher. By 2010, the education system will be in complete disarray and many traditional teachers will be looking for a job. Also, the nature of the school system will be seeing some huge changes that may or may not benefit salaries. Web design may be another field to stay away from. As software gets better and better and the market continues to flood, watch for rates to plummet as the marketplace forces a downward spiral.
