SAM SMITH TO SING TITLE SONG TO “SPECTRE” By Sony Productions Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment today confirmed that Sam Smith has recorded “Writing’s On The Wall,” the theme song to SPECTRE, the 24th James Bond adventure. SPECTRE will be released in the UK on October 26 and in the US on November 6. The song, released by Capitol Records, will debut and be available to purchase and stream on September 25. Multi-platinum selling artist Sam Smith has co-written the title song, “Writing’s On The Wall,” with fellow GRAMMY® Award winner Jimmy Napes. It is the first James Bond theme song recorded by a British male solo artist since 1965. Smith’s debut album In The Lonely Hour launched at No. 1 in the UK and bowed in at No. 2 in the US, and has since earned five No.1 UK singles, four GRAMMY® Awards, three Brit Awards, six MOBO Awards, Q and AMA Awards. Commenting on the announcement, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers of SPECTRE, said, “Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time.” Smith said: “This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.” The 23 previous James Bond theme songs make up some of the most memorable movie music of all time. The previous Bond theme song, “Skyfall,” was performed by Adele, and was honored with the Academy Award® and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, the Brit Award for British Single of the Year, and the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media. “We are very excited about the new relationship between UWM and eCampus. com. This partnership will enhance student success by making textbooks and course materials more affordable for students,” said Michael Laliberte, UWM’s vice chancellor for Student Affairs. “Additionally, this new model will provide students with added incentives to reduce their costs of purchasing textbooks.” Students will buy textbooks through the UWM Bookstore for the 2015 fall semester. They will return them to eCampus.com at the end of the semester. After that, they will buy them online at the UWM Virtual Bookstore powered by eCampus.com. Students will be able to order books online any time of the day and have them delivered directly to their residence with free, two-day shipping. As part of its commitment to UWM, eCampus.com will share in the cost of renovating the bookstore as a vibrant Panther Spirit Shop housing the eCampus.com Store@UWM, which will have kiosks and staff to assist students in ordering their textbooks. The partnership also provides an exclusive rewards program for UWM students, faculty members, parents and alumni. eCampus.com has partnerships with more than 300 popular online retailers, giving UWM students credit toward their books for purchases they and their families make online. It is currently the only rewards program to offer students a way to earn extra savings on textbooks. Purchases made by alumni and faculty members also earn credit, with that money going to help provide scholarships for current and future students. eCampus.com has committed to providing UWM students with tens of thousands of dollars in textbook scholarships over the next five years, along with supporting general scholarships, event sponsorships and campus promotions. “This program offers savings to students that just wouldn’t be possible with a brick-and-mortar bookstore,” said Scott Peak, UWM’s executive director of Auxiliary Services. “Schools across the country are going to be moving to online book sales because it is so cost-effective. With the traditional model, bookstores spent large sums shipping books they didn’t always sell and that cost got passed on to customers. This new model is student-friendly and ensures the only books being shipped are those students want and need.” Construction on the new Panther Spirit Shop and Virtual Bookstore is expected to begin in late September or early October, with a reopening in January. Bookstore operations will continue on the lower level of the current bookstore during construction on the main floor.

DRINK SPECIALS Why Are You Leaving SUCK!!! Me Hanging?... BECAUSE YOU Our great society has become a nation of inconsiderate jerks. With the advent of invasive technology such as texting and twitter, people are putting up their defenses like never before. We’ve become so paranoid that we are afraid to answer the phone or respond to texts. The lack of basic social graces to handle simple inquiries such as “what’s up” or “what are you doing today,” has caused many a hard feeling and many a strained relationship. You would think someone is trying to schedule your life for the next two weeks. People see these inquiries on their phone and immediately decide they aren’t worthy of a response. Really? The basic excuses, in no particular order, are “I’m too busy to respond” “Didn’t see it” “My phone wasn’t with me.” This is all to avoid texting a five word response acknowledging the situation. A lot of times it is also because they are weighing their options and don’t want to feel committed too early only to find out that they are potentially missing out on something better. Why is a response a commitment? Unfortunately, this is only the beginning. Once they feel the power of the control derived from the non-response, an addiction is born. They suddenly feel popular and, at the same time, harassed by such an inane inquiry. “How dare these people waste my time with such useless gibberish. They should understand the importance of my life and how unimportant their little whims are.” There is no greater illustration of people’s utter selfishness, abusiveness and control than event planning. Planning an event has killed more relationships than Facebook. The person at the helm of the event is at the mercy of all the pricks who are participating. If a participant is not happy with direction of the event, they simply go on radio silence and expect everyone to infer their position. They could care less how it affects the collective group and the extra work it puts on the organizer. In fact, they take some sick pleasure in watching everyone squirm until they are ready to grace the situation with their participation. Arranging a meeting time with a group of people might as well be setting seating arrangements for the electric chair. It is that scary for many people to actually make a commitment even that small. The funny thing is they will make the commitment knowing they aren’t going to follow through anyway so why are they worried in the first place! People have probably always been this inconsiderate but it is really magnified with today’s technology. It is no wonder that more and more people are deciding to wall off and live in miserable solitude. It is a shame because it is in conflict with our natural need to socialize and probably why we attempt to replace relationships with things.

Entrepreneurship remains alive and well in America with thousands of people starting new businesses each year. But the success of those businesses is another matter. About half will fail in their first five years, according to Gallup. So why do some new businesses go belly up after a short existence while others prosper? “Often it all comes down to the qualifications of the person who started the business,” says Randy H. Nelson, author of the Amazon best-selling book “The Second Decision: The Qualified Entrepreneur.” (www.randyhnelson.com/book) “Anyone can start a business because no real qualifications are required to do that. But not everyone is qualified to run a business once it’s off “Anyone can the ground and that’s a huge factor in why so many fail.” Nelson, who developed leadership skills as a Navy sub- start a business marine officer and has a track record of starting and build- because no real ing successful businesses, suggests there are five essential qualif ications traits that every entrepreneur needs to improve the odds of are required to business success: • Discipline. It’s important to be disciplined within do that... yourself to help move your organization forward and to produce good leadership decisions within a managerial team, Nelson says. An entrepreneur who is disciplined understands that “they don’t know what they don’t know,” he says. “This self-knowledge makes it clear how the entrepreneur’s shortcomings may be affecting his or her company, and so helps the entrepreneur make better decisions for the long run,” Nelson says. This entrepreneur also understands that, for the business to succeed in the long term, a transition must occur from the business being about “me” as its entrepreneur/CEO, to being about the overall needs of the company. • Leadership. To help a business succeed, Nelson says, it’s important that the entrepreneur understands that leadership within a company entails knowing your responsibilities and role, and knowing when to share or even delegate responsibility. • Self-awareness. In some cases, the person who created the company may not be CEO material and needs to understand that and find someone else to fill that role, Nelson says. “You have to take into consideration your own needs and desires and the needs and desires of the company,” he says. “It’s about the self-awareness journey through which you evaluate your skills and interests in each key aspect of managing a growth company.” • Understanding of issues and challenges. Within any company’s life cycle, numerous issues and challenges may arise. To lead a successful business, the entrepreneur needs to understand and acknowledge that four issues in particular may pose a challenge to his or her efforts to become the Qualified Entrepreneur that Nelson believes is necessary to success. Those issues are: insistence on autonomy; unwillingness to build structure, cultivate expertise or delegate; boredom; and failure to engage in self-examination. • Self-assessment. Nelson says it’s a bit ironic that entrepreneurs who are good at holding others accountable for their performances don’t take time to gauge how well they are doing themselves. “It’s important for the success of your business that you be able to do self-performance reviews,” he says.

coach Kyle Rechlicz PANTHERS SEEK FOURTHHead POSTSEASON BERTH IN LAST SIX YEARS By: mkepanthers.com Head coach Rob Jeter and the Milwaukee men’s basketball program took the floor at the Klotsche Center this afternoon for the first official practice of the 2015-16 season. Milwaukee, which closed out the 2014-15 season by winning seven of its final nine games, including each of its last four, hopes to carry that momentum into the 201516 season. The Panthers will face the challenge of “I couldn’t be more replacing last year’s leading scorer, team leader and starting point guard Steve McWhorter (14.2 ppg, 4.7 excited to get this rpg, 4.6 apg), but Jeter and his staff welcome back group back on the nine letterwinners from a team that won 14 games floor to attempt anoverall, including nine in Horizon League action. The Panthers usher in five newcomers, including other run at a Horizon League title,” guards JayQuan McCloud, Brock Stull and Derek Rongstad, who sat out last season. Also joining the mix is junior guard Jordan Johnson, a transfer from John Wood Community College, and true freshman guard Jeremy Johnson from Brooklyn Park, Minn. A handful of veterans will be called upon to provide leadership this season, including seniors Matt Tiby, J.J. Panoske (7.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg) and J.R. Lyle (6.3 ppg, 1.5 rpg). Tiby, a Second Team All-Horizon League performer a season ago, is the team’s leading returning scorer (13.3 ppg) and rebounder (7.8 rpg) and enters the 2015-16 campaign having scored in double figures in 21 consecutive outings. Also back in the fold are returning starters Akeem Springs (10.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg) and Justin Jordan (5.0 ppg, 2.2 rpg). Milwaukee will also benefit from the return of junior forward Austin Arians, who redshirted last season. One of the top three-point shooters in the Horizon League, the 6-foot-6 Arians contributed 11.1 ppg and 3.5 rpg in 2013-14 to help the Panthers earn a NCAA Tournament berth. “I couldn’t be more excited to get this group back on the floor to attempt another run at a Horizon League title,” Jeter said. “This team worked incredibly hard during the spring and summer to be ready for this season. Off the court, these young men have achieved high marks in the classroom, posting a perfect APR score and a 3.0 grade point average and continue to be tremendous representatives of the University and city of Milwaukee.” Milwaukee will tune up for the 2015-16 season by hosting Parkside in an exhibition game at Klotsche Center November 5.

Those contests will air live in Milwaukee on WCGVTV (My 24). A total of 10 Horizon League games will be televised live on ASN in 2015-16, beginning with Kent State at Cleveland State Dec. 5. The Panthers return nine letterwinners, including Second Team All-Horizon League forward Matt Tiby, from last season’s team that won seven of its final nine games. When combined with the Horizon League’s ESPN television package, Milwaukee will have at least five games televised live to a national audience in 2015-16. best college teams in some tough environments once again.” Coming off a 2015 campaign that saw the team set a school record with 39 victories, Milwaukee gets back to work with the season opener in mid-February. The Panthers head to Lubbock, Texas, to take on a talented Texas Tech squad that went 31-24 a season ago and is just two seasons removed from a 45-victory campaign that ended with a trip to the College World Series. The opener is set for February 19 as part of a three-game weekend set. Another major highlight will come March 2 when the Panthers make the return trip to Maryvale Baseball Park for another Spring Training exhibition with the Milwaukee Brewers. The two teams met for the first time ever in March of 2015, marking the Brewers first exhibition against a college team since 1983. “The Milwaukee Brewers have given us the opportunity to play again in 2016,” Doffek said. “It was a great challenge and wonderful experience last year for everyone involved with our program. We are extremely thankful to the Brewers organization once again.” Early season trips while Wisconsin is still in the middle of winter include a trek to Florida to take on Kent State and Ball State the last weekend in February. Both squads won over 30 games a season ago. March opens with a four-game set at Arkansas State, followed the next weekend when the Panthers head to Manhattan, Kan., for a weekend series at Kansas State. The Wildcats are a formidable power, reaching the NCAA Tournament four of the past seven seasons. One more non-league series follows, with UWM heading to Illinois State March 18-20. Horizon League play then opens with a trip to Ohio for a set at Youngstown State March 24-26. The first of 23 scheduled home games is set for the first weekend of March, as the Panthers are slated to take on Valparaiso University in the home opener April 1. What has become an annual trip to the University of Iowa comes April 5. The Panthers knocked off the Hawkeyes again last year, this time as a nationally ranked opponent over the course of their season that ended with a 41-18 record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. A series against Wright State (April 8-10) finishes the homestand before heading to Chicago State (April 13), UIC (April 15-17) and Northern Illinois (April 19). A game at Henry Aaron Field against Edgewood comes next before a new twist on league play begins. Scheduled conference doubleheaders make an appearance, beginning with twinbills at Valparaiso April 23 and back home against the Flames the next day. Single games against MSOE (April 26) and Chicago State (April 27) start a stretch of 10 of 11 at home, with a neutral-site game against Parkside at Simmons Field in Kenosha (May 4) the only road trip until May 10. The team then travels to Northern Kentucky May 13 and Wright State the next day for league doubleheaders, before finishing the season at Oakland for a three-game series May 19-21.

“The Milwaukee Brewers have given us the opportunity to play again in 2016,”
