In 2016, The Weeknd released his fourth full-length album Starboy (2x-platinum), which quickly rose to No. 1 in 90 countries and broke the global streaming record all in less than one week. Starboy (2x-platinum) currently has 13 RIAA certifications with Starboy (5x-platinum), I Feel it Coming (3x-platinum), Reminder (platinum), Die For You (platinum) and Party Monster (platinum). HOW CANDACE CAMERON BURE STAYS CALM, FOCUSED AND FIT By Michelle Vartan If anyone understands what it means to struggle with body image as an adolescent, it would be Candace Cameron Bure. You may have watched her as D.J. Tanner on “Full House, or maybe you’ve seen her in the recent rendition of “Fuller House. Bure has been on camera since her most formative years and how she looked mattered. But now she’s authored a book,Staying Stylish, where she addresses how spiritual and mental confidence is what really counts. It goes without saying that Bure has some great insight into the importance of selfesteem in young women. She deeply understands how focusing on our flaws impacts our mental and physical health. “Since I was very young — since I was 9, 10 or 11 — I knew my body wasn’t perfect. I think that had to do with growing up on television, she says. “I was always being fitted for clothes and my costume. And I became very aware of it, conscious of it and self-conscious of it too. How She Got In the Best Shape of Her Life It wasn’t until her 30s that Bure developed a healthy relationship with food and fitness. “It was something that was always a part of my life but it was always a struggle. Like, ‘Oh I have to go work out today’ or ‘I shouldn’t eat this, can’t eat this and I should be eating this,’ she says. “It was always kind of a downer. She attributes breaking the vicious cycle of fitness letdowns to her husband, former ice hockey player Valeri Bure. “It doesn’t hurt to be married to a professional athlete. I learned a lot from him and taking cues from him, and in my 30s I finally found the types of exercises that I really liked. Bure discovered how the small details, such as choosing the right workout, can help you find happiness, fulfillment and confidence. Those were things she never gained from 45 minutes on an elliptical machine, but did by engaging in community classes like Spin. “I realized how much I enjoyed working out with other people. I liked the energy in there, she says. And I thought, ‘These are amazing exercises, and I’m not bored.’ That’s what changed everything for me. Everything meaning way more than just how her clothes fit, but her strength, focus and mental clarity. “I feel more indestructible in my 40s than I did in my 20s. What Healthy Habits Help Her Cope? When she’s under tremendous stress, Bure listens to her body to figure out what coping mechanism she needs — whether that is a run to sweat it out or a few minutes for mindfulness. “There is so much to manage, and taking that half-hour or hour makes a world of difference. But her biggest tool to keep her grounded and focused, she underscores, is her spirituality. “It just changes my attitude and puts my heart in the right place — with a mindset to be kind and serve other people. In a recent interview with LIVESTRONG.COM, Bure tells us how the simple things (such as what you chose to wear) can translate into a positive attitude toward yourself and others. Bure also shares the daily rituals that she swears by. Watch to find out this “Full House star’s favorite workout, bizarre grooming habit and why she kind of loves the Kardashians. Baseball Looks For Weather To Cooperate For Home Opener Having already lost one game to weather this week, the Milwaukee baseball team looks to battle Mother Nature in an effort to finally get some games in at home this season following 24 contests on the road. The Panthers were originally scheduled to play at Northern Illinois Tuesday, only to see that game already be cancelled. Up next on the schedule is the home opener, scheduled to take place against MSOE on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Henry Aaron Field. Following a day off, the games at the Hank continue when Northern Kentucky arrives to town, set for single meetings Friday (3 PM), Saturday (1 PM) and Sunday (12 PM). All games will have live stats available. Stay tuned to the website for schedule change announcements, as the forecast is not ideal for spring baseball in Wisconsin. Weather permitting, the games will all have an audio broadcast available. The 2018 campaign marks the 54th season of baseball at UWM. It is also the 48th season of varsity play (the program was played at the club level from 1982-1986) and the 28th in the Panthers NCAA Division I era.

LOOKING AT THE OPPONENTS Former Panther Steve Sanfilippo enters his fifth season as the head coach at MSOE in 2018 and is joined on the staff by more UWM alumni in assistants Mike Porcaro and Jordan Guth. Over his first four seasons, “Flip has led the Raiders to a turnaround as they have won 45 games over the last two seasons with the first two league tournament appearances since joining the NACC in 2008. MSOE won more than 20 games (21-21 overall) in 2017, topping 20 wins back-to-back for the first time since the early 1980s. The team also finished .500-or-better in consecutive campaigns for the first time since then. They check in at 8-9 overall so far in 2018, with Sam Swan (.344) and Joe Gilpin (.313 / 7 RBI) leading the way for the offense. Todd Asalon hits the midway point of year No. 18 with NKU (518-457-1 overall including 25-33 in 2017), with the Norse starting the week at 6-18. Included in that mark is a 3-6 ledger in league play, most recently dropping two of three to Wright State. The team also plays a pair of midweek games in a home-and-home series with Butler before heading to Milwaukee. Will Haueter is enjoying an impressive campaign, batting a team-high .360 to go along with 14 runs scored, 6 home runs (2nd in HL) and 18 runs batted in. Mike Moffatt sits second, checking in at .301 with 12 runs scored. The team ERA is 7.71. SERIES HISTORIES The Panthers are a perfect 4-0 all-time against MSOE, having outscored the Raiders by a total of 52-17 in that span. The last meeting was a 15-6 Milwaukee victory in late April last season. MKE leads the Norse by a slim 6-5 edge, with all 11 games coming over the past two seasons since NKU joined the Horizon League. A year ago the Panthers went 2-4 against the Norse and had their season come to a close with an 11-5 loss in the Horizon League Tournament. THE WEEK THAT WAS Milwaukee went 1-2, with the only action of the week being the three games at Oakland. The offense checked in at .240, held in check for two games while exploding for 16 runs in the victory. Mike Ferri was red-hot, collecting six hits in 12 at bats (.500) with two runs scored and two doubles. Freshmen Zach Nogalski (.333) and Jack Kraus (.300) also got in on the action. PUTTING THE “K IN RE’K’LAITIS Jared Reklaitis made his first start of the 2018 season a memorable one, allowing just one hit and no runs in 5.0 innings against Sacramento State March 4. Although he had to work around six walks, he also recorded a then career-high eight strikeouts (prior UWM high was five), including the fourth inning where he struck out the side following a leadoff triple. Since earning a spot in the weekend rotation, Reklaitis picked up victories in backto-back starts against YSU March 18 (8 K’s) and Wright State March 25 (seasonhigh 7.0 IP) before tallying a career-best 10 strikeouts against Oakland March 31. It marked the first 10+ K game for a Panther this season and just the 33rd in program history. SOPHOMORE SURGE Mike Ferri has played his way into being a regular starter in 2018 and has topped most marks from his entire freshman season a year ago. In just 19 appearances, Ferri has already set collegiate-bests in hits with 25 (was 20), doubles with 5 (3), home runs with 1 (0) and stolen bases with 7 (4). He will also move past his run total soon (tied at 10) and RBI as well. His .333 average leads the Panthers and sits fifth in the Horizon League. OAKLAND FROM MILWAUKEE VIA HAWAII Newcomer Oakland Scanlan, who comes to Milwaukee from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, has made a solid first impression for the Panthers. As play starts this week, Scanlan sits fifth in home runs (3) and 10th in slugging percentage (.443) among numerous Horizon League leaders. FIRST IMPRESSIONS Scott Doffek brought a roster into the 2018 season that included 14 newcomers as well as a pair of redshirts who did not appear in a game for the Panthers, meaning that essentially half of the roster never played a game for the program. The breakdown of the new student-athletes is as follows: Freshman (11): Mitch Buban, Bryce Cross, Mike Edwards, Conner Goodman, Jack Kraus, Jack Mahoney, Nick Moeser, Zach Nogalski, Joey Scaffidi, Jack Thelen, Patrick Tomfohrde Redshirt Freshman (1): Matt DeYoung Transfers (4): Tyler Bordner (JR), Colin Kreiter (JR), Oakland Scanlon (JR), Joshua Serio (SR) In addition, redshirt freshman Nick Winter made just one appearance last season before being lost to injury. That makes the squad young as well, consisting of 20 total underclassmen, made up of 14 freshmen and six sophomores on the roster. BIG SHOES TO FILL With a big senior class departing last season as well as players lost early to the Major League Baseball Draft, a look at the numbers shows the Panthers lost a large percentage of production in numerous categories. GAMES STARTED (field players only): 352/486: 72.4 percent of starts will not return to the field in 2018.

Thoughtful green initiatives. These aren’t extras, but simply the way we run things. All-in-all, The Brewhouse is a collection of everything that makes Milwaukee famous—including the brew. After all, what could be more Milwaukee than sleeping in a historic brewery where you’re welcomed by the stained glass visage of the patron saint of beer brewing? Prost!! Today, soaring and joyful fusions of mixed metals, well-kept copper tops and a King offering a perpetual toast to good health greet all of the Brewhouse Inn & Suites guests and visitors. Then, they made mash, then boiled, bottled and sold the brew that created the “Made in Milwaukee Blue Ribbon” experience. Explore the rich history of the iconic Pabst Brewery and the evolution into Milwaukee’s own “blue ribbon” hotel of today. We wanted to make a real investment in Milwaukee by thoughtfully developing a sustainable, green neighborhood. We’ve gone to great lengths to make sure the Brewhouse Inn and Suites is in the LEED-certified Brewery Development. From development to construction, the Brewery has achieved Platinum Certification and is on track to be one of Urban America’s premier sustainable neighborhoods. This responsibly planned gateway to Milwaukee’s great downtown offers residents and guests alike a place to work, live, learn and play. Gorman & Company has developed innovative and catalytic properties in partnership with communities across the country. While steampunk and Victorian revisionist stylings set our suites apart, modern onveniences like a full kitchen, oversized showers, and complimentary WiFi are what make our boutique hotel premier. With touches like a kitchen table repurposed from the original building and beer bubble French doors, think of it as industrial revolution meets sustainable twenty-first century. EXTENDED STAY ACCOMMODATIONS Our suites make the perfect headquarters when you’re in town for an extended stay. The suites are equipped like an upscale apartment with full kitchens, a workspace and complimentary Wi-Fi. It’ll be like working from the comfort of home, except you never have to clean and you have Jackson’s Blue Ribbon Pub as your downstairs. As for your backyard? Step out into the center of downtown where the convention center, area colleges, and a number of business are just a short walk away. Segregation concentrates groups that have relatively high poverty rates into a subset of neighborhoods that then have all the problems that go with very high poverty: high rates of violent crime, poor health outcomes, etc. Segregation can also, arguably, create pverty in the sense that it becomes harder for people to find jobs because many of the jobs they need to lift themselves out of poverty are located in suburban, predominantly white areas, as is the case in Milwaukee. The kind of work I do can provide some insight into policy responses or even responses on the part of the nonprofit sector or business interests.
