HEALTHY SPIRIT

Serving A Perfect God Who Uses Imperfect People Has God been asking you to do something for Him yet you have been dismissing yourself because of your imperfections? Have you been wondering “Who am I that God should use me?” If so, learn from the following people so that you can understand that God uses imperfect and insignificant people to achieve His perfect and significant plans if they obey and cooperate with Him.

GIDEON The first example of God using “imperfect people” who were just perfect for His plans is Gideon. Gideon’s qualifications were imperfect by human standards for God’s perfect plan of liberating the Israelites from their Midianite oppressors because he was afraid of the Midianites. This is evidenced by the fact that when God sent His angel to him, Gideon was threshing wheat while hiding in a winepress. (Judges 6:11) Gideon was not only afraid of the Midianites, he was also afraid of his people because when God told him to destroy his father’s Baal altar, Gideon did as God had told him, but Page 3

because he feared his father’s household and the men of the city too much to do it during the day, he did it at night. (Judges 6:27) In addition, Gideon thought that he was not qualified to lead for he said, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel for my clan is the weakest in Manasseh and I am the least in my father’s house.” (Judges 6:15) Furthermore, God wanted Gideon to lead an army of just 300 men to defeat the Midianites who were As numerous as locusts. (Judges 6:5) But, despite all his apparent imperfections, God was still able to use Gideon as His earthly Commander in Chief to accomplish His perfect plans. This is because God saw A mighty man of valor (Judges 6:12) in Gideon even though Gideon may not have seen that man in himself.

God saw a mighty man of valor in Gideon.

Therefore if God has called you to do something for Him, do not let fear of the challenge or fear of what other people may say when they see you taking on the challenge or your low socio-economic status or the immensity of the challenge or the fact that you have little or no help from other people in dealing with this challenge stop you from doing what God has called you. Do not let these “weaknesses” hold you back because when you are “weak”, and you rely on God, then His strength is perfectly manifested through you because He tells us that My grace is made perfect in weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9)

When you are weak and you rely on God,

Page 4

His strength is perfectly manifested through you. So stop focusing on your weaknesses and focus instead on fulfilling God’s purpose for your life. Step out in faith and obedience and do what God is asking you to do. If you still feel afraid because of the persisting problems, pray for more faith since it is the antidote for fear by praying, “Lord I believe, help my unbelief” (Mark 9:24) and continue walking and working in faith. Work in faith even if you have to work at night like Gideon when he destroyed Baal’s altar.

MOSES The second Biblical example of God using “imperfect people” who were perfect for His perfect plans is Moses. Moses’ qualifications were imperfect by human standards for God’s perfect plan of liberating the Israelites from their Egyptian masters because he was just a shepherd working for his fatherin-law Jethro in the backside of the wilderness. Moses was cognizant of the fact that he lacked the social status that would be deemed necessary for a person being sent to negotiate a deal with Pharaoh who was the most powerful person in Egypt for he asked God “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and ask him to release the Israelites?” (Exodus 3:11) In addition, Moses stammered and thus he was not a good public speaker and he reminded God of this fact when he told Him, “I am slow of speech and tongue.” (Exodus 4:10) But God already knew of his “physical disability” of stammering when He asked him to go to speak to powerful Pharaoh for He asked him, “Who makes the mouths of human beings?

Go and I will be with your mouth and teach you what to say. Therefore, do not dismiss yourself as inappropriate for the job God has asked you to do because of your physical disabilities or diseases or financial inabilities or low socioeconomic status because God knew about them when He picked you for the job. He could have chosen someone who was perfect by human standards and He did not because He knew that you were perfect for the job even with your imperfections. Therefore, trust God’s wisdom in choosing you to get the job done and receive the assurance that He gave to Moses when He told him “I will be with you” (Exodus 3:12) as you head out in obedience to do what He wants you to do.

Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the sighted, or the blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what to say.” (Exodus 4:11)

THE SAMARITAN WOMAN AT THE WELL The third Biblical example of God using “imperfect people” who were perfect for His perfect plans is the Samaritan Woman at the Well. The Samaritan Woman at the Well was imperfect by human standards for God’s perfect plan of evangelizing to the people of her city, Sychar, because when Jesus asked her to bring her husband, she replied, “I do not have a husband.” (John 4:17) She said this because she was living with a man she was not married to after living with five other men. But, despite her personal issues, God was still able to use her with her imperfections to tell her people about Jesus because Many Samaritans in that city believed in Jesus because of the word of that woman because she testified and said, “He told me all the things I ever did.” (John 4:39)

Page 6

Therefore, if you have made many public and private mistakes in your personal and professional life, do not write yourself off because God has not written you off.

Even if you have made many public and private mistakes in your personal and professional lives, God has not written you off. Be honest with Him like this Samaritan Woman who was honest with Jesus by telling Him the true state of the affairs of her life and then be open to His leading and direction.

JONAH The fifth example of God using “imperfect people” for His perfect plans is Jonah. Jonah was imperfect by human standards for God’s perfect plan of making the people of the Nineveh repent because when God to him, “Arise and go to Nineveh” (Jonah 1:2), Jonah arose and went to Tarshish. But, God still used Jonah to preach and make the entire city of Nineveh turn away from their sinful ways from the King and the Greatest to the least of them. (Jonah 3:5) Therefore do not despair and deem yourself unusable if you have turned your back on God or done things that you need to repent of and God is asking you to preach repentance.

Turn back to God and repent like Jonah. Turn back to God and repent like Jonah Who prayed to the Lord from the fish’s belly (Jonah 2:1) because God can forgive you and still use you just as He used Jonah.

SIMON PETER The fourth Biblical example of God using “imperfect people” who were just perfect for His perfect plans is Simon Peter. Simon Peter was imperfect by human standards for God’s perfect plan of leaving the Church under His leadership when Jesus ascended to heaven because he had publicly denied Jesus three times. He had stated, “I do not know Him” (Luke 22:57), declared “I am not one of them” (Luke 22:58), and reiterated “I do not know what you are talking about for I was not with Jesus” (Luke 22:60). But despite this, God was still able to use Him and the early Church grew under his leadership. Therefore, if you were once a staunch, saved Christian before you backslid into a life of sin or if you have repeatedly and publicly declared that “I do not believe in God” or “I am an atheist” or “I am not one of those

Page 8

Bible believing Christians” or “I am not saved”, and yet God is calling you to do some work for Him, do not discount yourself on the basis of your past words or actions.

Do not discount yourself on the basis of your past words or actions. Set out in faith to accomplish the task that God has placed in your heart after repenting of your sinful errors and publicly declaring your new stand the way Simon Peter did when Jesus restored him after he publicly stated, “You know Lord that I love You” (John 21:15), “You know Lord that I love You” (John 21:16) and “Lord, You know all things and You know that I love you” (John 21:17)

SAUL PAUL The sixth example of God using “imperfect people” who were perfect for His perfect plans is Saul Paul. Saul Paul was imperfect by human standards for God’s perfect plan of preaching Christianity because he says, I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. (Galatians 1:13) He victimized members of the early Church by Breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 9:1) Saul also Went to the high priest and asked for letters to take to the Damascus synagogues so that if he found any men or women who were of the Way (that is Christians), he would bring them chained to Jerusalem. (Acts 9:1-2) He even oversaw the murder of Christians because when Stephen was being stoned to death because of his faith, his murderers Lay their clothes at the feet of a young man whose name was Saul. (Acts 7:58) But despite his anti-Christian past, God was still able to use him to accomplish His purposes of preaching Christianity and writing most of the New Testament. Therefore, if your past is filled with activities that break God’s commandments like cursing and stealing or murder and adultery, understand that God can still use you if you change your ways the way Saul did when he was transformed into Paul. Page 9

In addition, you also have to find out what the Lord wants you to do the way Saul did when he encountered Him on the road to Damascus and asked, Lord, what do You want me to do? (Acts 9:6) and then did what the Lord wanted. Furthermore, understand that you have to adopt Paul’s mindset of erasing your past from the blackboard of your mind and writing a new life for yourself under God’s direction for he said, One thing I do is, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those which are ahead, I press towards the goal. (Philippians 3:1314)

One thing I do is, Forgetting those things which are behind & Reaching forward to those which are ahead, I press towards the goal. (Philippians 3:13-14)

MARY The seventh Biblical example of God using “imperfect people” who were perfect for His perfect plans is Mary. Mary was imperfect by human standards for God’s perfect plan of giving birth and raising His only Son Jesus Christ because she did not have any children for she was a virgin. (Luke 1:27) She also wondered how she could accomplish that feat for she asked Angel Gabriel, How can this be since I do not know a man? (Luke 1:34)

With God nothing will be impossible. (Matthew 1:37) God is able to make you successful where you had previously failed because With God nothing will be impossible (Matthew 1:37) for He was able to make Mary’s relative Elizabeth, an old woman Who was called barren, (Matthew 1:36) conceive and give birth to John the Baptist at around the same time.

Furthermore, Mary was also not even married and when her fiancé Joseph discovered that she was pregnant, he begun to think of how he would terminate their relationship. (Matthew 1:19) Therefore if you are inexperienced as per the world’s standards, with regards to the task that God is asking you to perform, understand that God’s power, manifested through His Holy Spirit, is all the qualifications that you need to accomplish His great task. Understand also that should you begin facing problems as you begin doing what God has called you to do, God can solve those problems for you the way He intervened for Mary and told Joseph to marry her.

HEALTHY SPIRIT

We Are Not Ignorant: Intimidation We are not ignorant of his devices (2 Corinthians 2:11) since by reading the Bible we can learn the various strategies that satan and his kingdom use to fight God’s people. These devices include:

INTIMIDATION The Bible tells us that The enemy comes in like a flood (Isaiah 59:19) and we can see him flooding the Israelites with problems when they were being oppressed by the Midianites, the Amalekites, and the people from the East in Judges chapter 6. This multitude of enemies would flock to Israel in numbers As numerous as locusts (Judges 6:5) and with their livestock and Camels without number (Judges 6:5) whenever the Israelites had sown. They would then destroy all that they could to ensure that the Israelites did not have any sustenance, sheep, ox or even donkeys left. As a result of their destruction, the Israelites were greatly impoverished. (Judges 6:1-6) Page 11

Thus we can see that the enemies of God’s people attack His people in great numbers and with great problems so that they can effect great physical damage. Therefore, understand that you do not have to give up or back down to the enemy’s demands even if he attacks you with millions of problems simultaneously.

When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard against him. (Isaiah 59:29) This is because God can defeat millions of your enemies with minimal effort on our part like He did in Gideon’s case.

God can also use His Holy Spirit to help you win your battles because When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard against him. (Isaiah 59:19) Understand also that whenever the devil inundates you with problems to intimidate you, he is not only trying to defeat you physically, he is also trying to defeat you mentally so that you can give up and stop fighting back. Therefore, refuse to accept to be defeat mentally, even if you have been temporarily defeated physically. Refuse to be defeated in your mind by replacing all negative, defeatist thoughts with powerful, positive Scriptures like In all these things we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) and I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13) and With God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)

In all these problems I am more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ who loves me. Page 12

I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me. Learn also from David when the enemy tried to use Goliath’s size to intimidate the Israelites for Goliath Was six cubits and a span. (Around 9 foot 9 inches) He wore a bronze helmet on his head and a coat of mail whose weight was 5000 shekels of bronze. (Around 125 pounds or 60 kg) He wore bronze armor on his legs and carried a bronze javelin between his shoulders. The staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam and his iron spearhead weighed 600 shekels. (Around 15 pounds or 7.5 kg) And as if that was not enough, A shield bearer went before him. (1 Samuel 17:4-7) Goliath was intimidating since he was very tall, more than 9 foot 9 inches tall, and very strong. We know that he was strong since he was able to walk while wearing a 125 pound coat and carrying a 15 pound spear. His appearance and his words made even the most seasoned soldiers of the

(C) TheHealthyChristians.com All Rights Reserved. No material from this publication may be copied or reproduced without permission from TheHealthyChristians.com

Israelite army pause in their tracks before charging towards him. But David was different. He did not let Goliath’s size, armor or words intimidate him. He appraised him for he said to Goliath, You come to me with a sword, a spear and a javelin, (1 Samuel 17:45) meaning he saw all that was coming against him from the enemy’s camp, but he did not let it defeat him mentally. He was able to prevent mental defeat because he did not focus on Goliath. We know that he did not focus on Goliath because after appraising him, David turned his mind back to God and said to Goliath, I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel. (1 Samuel 17:45) Therefore, first appraise your situation and see all that the enemy has lined up to destroy you and then shift your focus from the enemy’s arsenal to God’s power and might because God is more powerful than any enemy you will ever face.

I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts. Page 13

In addition, to overcome the enemy’s intimidation, you also have to speak words of faith to your situation like David did. David said to Goliath, “This day the Lord God will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and decapitate you. This day, I will give the carcasses of the Philistine camp to the birds of the air and the wild animals of the earth so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. All this gathering shall also know that the Lord God does not save with sword and spear. (1 Samuel 17:46-47) Therefore, speak words of faith and victory to the mountain-sized enemy who is trying to intimidate you.

She said within herself, If I touch the clothes, I shall be healed. If you are not able to speak your words of faith audibly, speak them in your heart like the woman with the issue of blood, For she said within herself, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” (Mark 5:28)

This woman was also facing a Goliath in the name of the disease that had made her bleed for 12 years. Her goliathic disease had also tried to intimidate her by worsening despite her seeking specialist treatment. This disease had also drained her finances since she had spent all her money moving from one doctor to another seeking a cure. But, this woman did not let the “incurability” of her disease or the fact that she was running low on funds intimidate her into accepting to live while waiting for death. She sought Jesus and spoke positive words of faith regardless of all the negative words that had been spoken about her condition by the doctors. Therefore, proclaim your victory even before you begin battling with your Goliath. As you do so, believe that the Lord your God does not save you with physical swords or spears or medications or money or technology or whatever else you are lacking that is making your situation look hopeless.

The battle is the Lord’s. (1 Samuel 17:47) Page 14

So, if your enemy is using millions of dollars and lawyers to fight you when you do not have even one, do not be intimidated and despair. Give the battle to the Lord like David did when he said, “The battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:47) Commit your challenge to God and believe that He will give you the victory.

Not by might or by power but by My Spirit. (Zechariah 4:6) Even if the battle you are facing is with a deadly disease that is genetically protected from medications and therapies used to treat similar conditions, like Goliath was “heavily protected by his armor” believe that you can still win and be healed not by might, or by power but by God’s spirit. Believe that you can still win and be cured even if your illness carries a bronze javelin and spear that enables it to penetrate and destroy many cells in your body.

(C) TheHealthyChristians.com All Rights Reserved. No material from this publication may be copied or reproduced without permission from TheHealthyChristians.com

Believe that you can still win and be healed even if the disease is six cubits and a span inside your body meaning that it has spread to your liver, lungs, brain and other organs. So, do not despair even if the medications or technology at your disposal for dealing with this gigantic threat seem as archaic as the 5 smooth stones that David had to use to deal with all the bronze that was protecting Goliath because you can win, though “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,” says the Lord God Almighty. (Zechariah 4:6) Understand also, that to overcome intimidation from the enemy camp, you have to combine faith in God’s ability to help you win or Godconfidence with confidence in your abilities or self-confidence.

confidence. They initially refused to go and fight the giants because they did not believe that could win even after seeing how God had helped them win their freedom from Pharaoh. These Israelites did not have healthy self-confidence for they said, We saw the giants there and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight and also in their sight. (Numbers 13:33) Therefore develop a healthy self image so that gigantic problems do not make you view yourself as an insect instead of a conqueror or think that other people think of you as a bug. Do not also let the enemy’s size or might intimidate you so that you lose your God-confidence or faith in God’s ability to help you.

Combine God-confidence with Self-confidence to win your battles. Learn from the Israelites who never entered and enjoyed their Promised Land because they lacked GodPage 15

Eating to Treat Acne Dietary modifications that you can institute to treat acne naturally include:

1.

Glycemic index of less than 20: Peanuts, Broccoli, Cucumber, Green beans, Lettuce, Spinach, Tomatoes

Eat Foods With A Glycemic Index Of Less Than 70 Acne has been called diabetes of the skin due to the relationship between blood sugar levels and acne eruptions. Therefore, avoid foods with high glycemic indexes like candy, white bread, French fries, mashed potatoes, white flour cakes and doughnuts because they make the blood glucose sugar levels rise rapidly. This rise makes the pancreas produce more insulin in order to regulate the blood glucose level. The resultant increased insulin level also stimulates the oil glands of the skin to produce sebum (oil) which, if in excess, contributes to clogging the skin pore and the development of whiteheads and blackheads. Therefore, increase your consumption of low glycemic index foods and preferably those with a glycemic index of less than 70. These include: Page 17

Glycemic index of 20- 30: Cherries, Soy milk

Glycemic index of 30- 40: Whole wheat spaghetti, Apples, Pears

Glycemic index of 40-50: Apple juice, All bran cereal, Oranges, Carrot juice, Macaroni, Pineapple juice, Multi grain bread

(C) TheHealthyChristians.com All Rights Reserved. No material from this publication may be copied or reproduced without permission from TheHealthyChristians.com

Glycemic index of 50- 60: Orange juice, Bananas, Sweet potato, Oat bran, Brown rice, Popcorn, Mangoes, Boiled potatoes

2. Increase Foods Rich in Chromium

a) Vitamin A - red bell peppers, mangoes, carrots, cantaloupes, sweet potatoes. This vitamin A acts synergistically with the other potent antioxidant selenium.

b) Vitamin C - citrus fruits like oranges, guavas, strawberries, melons, avocados, tomatoes. Vitamins C also helps reduce acne scarring.

Chromium helps pimples heal quickly and aids glucose metabolism. Food sources of chromium include brown rice, meat and whole grains. c) Vitamin E – almonds, dark green vegetables, avocados, sunflower seeds, eggs and vegetable oils like olive oil, sunflower oil, canola oil and maize oil. Vitamins E also reduces acne scarring.

3. Increase Foods Rich in Antioxidants Antioxidants like vitamins A, C, E and the mineral selenium protect the skin by neutralizing free radicals from UV radiation, pollution and cigarette smoke which damage the skin. Perfect food sources of antioxidants include: Page 18

d) Selenium – meat, garlic, onions, nuts like almonds and brazil nuts.

(C) TheHealthyChristians.com All Rights Reserved. No material from this publication may be copied or reproduced without permission from TheHealthyChristians.com

4.

6.

Increase Turmeric Intake

Identify and Avoid Trigger Foods

Turmeric is a yellow spice which is used to flavor food. It is also a potent antioxidant with anti- inflammatory properties. Avoid using turmeric if you have ulcers, gall stones and bile duct obstruction.

Foods suspected to trigger acne include: 1. Trans fats which are found in processed foods 2. Spicy foods 3. Dairy foods like milk, cheese 4. Alcohol 5. Soda

5.

To identify your trigger foods, keep a food diary so that you can record everything you ate during the 24 hour period that preceded an acne flare up.

Avoid Iodide Rich Foods Avoid foods that are rich in iodides like iodized table salt, shell fish, seaweed and kelp powder. This is because dietary iodides are excreted from the body through the oil glands and they may contribute to flare up due to impactions. Substitute the iodized salt with sea salt which has a lower iodine content.

HEALTHY MIND

Praying to Relax Is anyone of you suffering? Let him pray. (James 5:13) Therefore if you are suffering in a stressful situation, the first thing that you should do is to pray and ask for God’s help. If you are not used to praying, consider it as a form of talk therapy where you simply tell God your problems and ask Him what you should do about them. Pray and ask Him to fill you with the wisdom and understanding that His

Page 23

Spirit gives so that you may know the right thing to do regardless of whether your stressful situation is due to your health failing, your family fighting or your finances floundering. So, seek the Lord first and Do not be wise in your own eyes. (Proverbs 3:7) Do not rush to make any decision, speak hastily or hurry to do whatever you think may be the right thing to do at that particular time. Cry out to Him even in an emergency for He says, Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things which you do not know. (Jeremiah 33:3) You may receive new insights or get a different outlook into your situation that will enable you make more constructive decisions.

As you pray, understand that you have to believe that you will receive whatever you are asking for because we are told to Ask in faith, without doubting, for the person who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. Let not that person suppose that they will receive anything from the Lord because they are doubleminded man and unstable in all their ways. (James 1:6-8)

If you are praying for your family to be restored, you have to see your marital problems resolving and the wayward child coming back home. If you are praying for a financial breakthrough, you have to see yourself receiving the appointment letter and cashing the cheque. See it, pray believing that the Lord can bring it to pass and then thank Him as you live expecting to receive it.

Ask in faith. Since Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1), asking in faith entails being able to see yourself with your mind’s eye receiving the things that you are asking the Lord to give you. If you are asking for healing, you have to see the laboratory tests returning as normal, the cancerous mass becoming undetectable and the doctors telling you that you have been cured.

HEALTHY FINANCES

Asking for God’s Blessings The first principle of Biblical prosperity is to pray and ask for God’s blessing. In the book of Genesis we see that Jacob asked God to bless him and God blessed him. We also see that as he was asking God to bless him, he was not a poor man by any standards since that evening he had prepared a present for his estranged brother Esau and this present consisted of 200 female goats, 20 male goats, 200 ewes, 20 rams, 30 milk camels with their colts, 40 cows, 10 bulls, 20 female donkeys and 10 foals. (Genesis 32) Therefore, ask God to bless you and to bless all the work of your hands because God has pleasure in the prosperity of His servants. (Psalm 35:27) As you pray, use Bible verses since the Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit. (Ephesians 6:17) Scriptures that you can use spiritual warfare prayers to pray for your financial blessings include: 1. Father God I ask You in the name of Jesus to bless me indeed and expand my territory. (Adapted 1 Chronicles 4:10) Page 26

You can also update it to the 21st century and pray, Oh that You would bless my blog indeed and enlarge my online empire. 2. Save me now, O Lord I pray. O Lord, I pray, send me now financial prosperity. (Adapted Psalm 118:25) 3. Heavenly Father I ask You in the name of Jesus to grant me plenty of goods in the fruit of my body, in the increase of my livestock, in the produce of my ground and businesses. (Adapted Deuteronomy 28:11) Alternatively, you can paraphrase it to the 21st century and pray, Heavenly Father I ask You in the name of Jesus to grant me plenty of children, increase my stock portfolio and increase the income from my online businesses.

O Lord, I pray, send me now financial prosperity. 4. Heavenly Father I ask You in the name of Jesus to bless me so that my offline stores, websites and blogs may be full, supplying all kinds of products and services.
