Don’t sweat the small stuff

Don’t overthink things: live in the moment

The age-old line “don’t sweat the small stuff” was the best advice that I may have ever received as a child. We have this choice to live with such fear and worry every day. We also have the choice to let things unfold as they will. After all, everything is always working out for us in the long run. Why sweat the small stuff in the meantime?

I prefer to live my life to the fullest with virtually little worry and fear. Often, I watch the panic unfold around me during what some perceive as a crisis. Sometimes it is as small as a bug landing on their calf. Sometimes it is the irritation of a traffic jam. The reaction time of fear or disgust can be so quick and consistent that they become so accustomed to this as their way of life. We learn from our childhood to fear, to plan every detail, and to worry when things go “wrong”; the feeling that we must react equally to it and fix it.

Someone to show them love first, and let them know that all is ok. We all want love and understanding first before panic and fear. Before the worry and the actions taken to try and fix it all. However, we must not place the blame on others. Maybe what needs to be “fixed” is our mindset. Don’t sweat the small stuff; that particular piece is programmed within our being.

When we forget for a moment, all we have to do is look around us. It’s that simple. This magnificent world has all that we need to let go of hyper thoughts that lead us to anxiety, fear, anger, and worry. We are one with this beauty.

Overthinking, I call hyper thinking. That hummingbird moment when your brain goes into overdrive. It may seem necessary, but you are flying at hyper speed and hovering in one spot. At least the hummingbird does it with full grace and is productive.

I find that most of us are not productive at all in this state of mind and it definitely can get ugly. The hummingbird reminds us to be adaptable and accept changes. The hummingbird’s wings move in the pattern of a figure eight, the ancient symbol of continuity. Infinity. This magnificent bird, one of the smallest in the world, reminds us to not sweat the small stuff.

A gentle yet productive symbolism of life’s simple pleasures. The little things in life are what are important. Love first. Breathe first. Productive thought process versus reaction. Precision with agility. The fierce hummingbird that playfully glides past irritants.

Sometimes it may be right to worry,

most of the time it gets you nowhere. In the long run, all works out as it should. As my grandmother would say “This too shall pass”.

You will get to your destination when the cars can move again. Everyone will forgive the tardiness because life is beautiful and easy when we let it be. We all understand but we don’t always give understanding to ourselves in these situations. Where you are in life is exactly where you are supposed to be at this moment. The future has yet to happen, the past is gone. The only thing that is real is here and now. Let the bug land on your leg. He may need the same break that you need and that friend to lean on. Love first, judge never. Fear less, play more. Nature is calling and giving us the most in life right outside our hyper thinking.
