True grit: artist inspires hope with community art
Tens of thousands now members of artist’s ‘White Ribbon for Hope’ virtual group By Jill Moon jmoon@hearst.com
EDWARDSVILLE — True Pure Brave Art believes creativity can change the world, following the company’s mission and that of its founder, Tammi (Powlen) Beck, who is sharing projects by placing artwork in her home’s windows and online for all to see during these troubling times. True Pure Brave Art LLC is an art company with the primary purpose to help people develop character through art exploration at various art workshops for all ages and summer programs for children, founded by Beck approximately three years ago. Now, as she shelters in place with her family, Beck extended True Pure Brave Art’s mission, furthered by her two daughters, during the coronavirus pandemic. “My daughters are created so unique and talented,” Beck said. “They are treasures for whom I am so grateful and proud. “They are my heart, along with my husband, my parents, sisters, nephews, nieces, all of my
family, and my best friends are in there, too.” Beck has also tied a white ribbon near her Edwardsville home’s front windows as a symbol of hope and prayer, for all. “What I’m doing now, a lot of it is for my kids and for the children and adults of our neighborhood, community and world. I don’t want anyone to lose their smile,” she said. “Make your home windows your very own art gallery so your neighbors can enjoy a new view. “Art is something to hold sacred, and I’d like it to be more than just for children, but for anybody, to have something else to look at that’s fun and hopefully inspiring.” True Pure Brave Art’s programs include character building, hence the name of Beck’s company. Program discussions and art projects express being true to who individuals were created to be, ways to be pure, kind and loving, and brave to live out those characteristics in all aspects of their lives through art and actions. Every possible day, the Beck trio takes walks, looking at flowers, for snails in the backyard,
at all of the nature that surrounds them. Beck displays the art they create, together in a cozy group, for anyone to enjoy while taking a walk in the neighborhood. Walking outside and exercise are recommended during shelter-inplace, while social distancing of course, and the Becks’ creativity adds to the neighborhood experience. “That’s what I want my daughters to see and something we thought of on our walks, looking at the flowers, taking it all in, taking time to evaluate where you are in your life,” Beck explained. “It’s not time to live by fear, but to live by faith,” she noted. True Pure Brave Art’s Facebook page has existed for a couple years, where Beck shares up to three days of art projects per week, including the community public art by her and her daughters. But Beck recently created a Facebook group — “White Ribbon for Hope” — where she encourages the global online community to post photos of a white ribbon that they’ve displayed outside their home for all to see and/or their community art displayed in their home windows, inspired by the movement started by Beck and her daughters. She asks that members post the city and
Join the movement! “White Ribbon for Hope,” a Facebook group, created by True Pure Brave Art LLC’s owner and founder Tammi (Powlen) Beck, encourages the global online community to post photos of a white ribbon that they’ve displayed outside their home for all to see. Tens of thousands joined the social media group within two weeks of its creation, sharing experiences, both uplifting and heartbreaking, where several members have asked for prayer for loved ones who have tested positive for COVID-19. Beck also encourages posts at the True Pure Brave Art Facebook page of images of art projects undertaken by anyone, any age, displayed through their homes’ windows to share and inspire the global community. Both social media movements — White Ribbon and community art — follow True Pure Brave Art LLC’s mission to promote creativity for change throughout the world.

Tens of thousands of people joined the White Ribbon for Hope group within two weeks’ time of its Facebook debut. “So far there is Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey, Colorado and more,” she noted. “The white ribbon is a symbol that unifies and strengthens our country, as we hope and pray together. I am hoping some of my international friends will post soon!” Beck’s hope became a reality with White Ribbon for Hope’s global posts from Puerto Rico, Paraguay, Australia and Sweden. “And, my friend in Georgia has art in her windows, posted on her social media page,” Beck said. “She said hers was inspired by the art in my windows. I was so excited about that! With friends all across the world, you send your art to different places. “Good will come from all of this, in some way. It’s been a blessing that I get to spend more time with my girls — taking walks, being outside — when they normally might be at an extra curricular evening activity.” The family of four moved to Edwardsville from New York City nearly four years ago when Beck’s husband relocated for a career move. Beck, an artist with more than 20 years of experience, works in graphics, photography, painting, sculpture, glass blowing and design. She also speaks at schools about creating chil-
dren’s books, illustrates children’s books and has original watercolor artwork for sale. “I had all different kinds of experiences of my own before having a family,” explained Beck, who grew up in Indiana, where she worked for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which incidentally canceled its remaining 2020 basketball tournaments and championships based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat. “My heart goes out to all those suffering in the world, individuals, families, businesses, the arts, nonprofits, sports clubs, everybody,” she said. Beck designed NCAA’s Men’s Final Four logos, including for the 2005 Final Four held in St. Louis. Eventually, she moved to New York, where she lived for seven years. As a graphic designer, she worked in a world of movers and shakers, with New York City media and editors, and she’s worked as a background actress in numerous television dramas and sitcoms, including “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Gossip Girl,” “Blue Bloods,” “Blacklist” and “Quantico,” as well as a feature film, “Mr. Popper’s Penguins.” Now she’s homeschooling her kids. “I was going through all that lifestyle when in New York,” she recalled. “And before the pandemic, I had my art career events as a big

priority. But now, as a wife and mother, I’m actually having more time with my family. “Since social distancing and shelter in place, I’ve been doing the art every time I have my kids do it, usually before lunch, and it’s pretty relaxing. I choose all different mediums to do more art with my kids — that I never did before because we didn’t have time. Suddenly, I’m at a different stage in life.” For now, all True Pure Brave Art plans are on hold. “I was worried about my summer programs for kids and all of my events are closed,” said Beck, who planned to do three-day True Pure Brave Art summer children’s programs covering eight weeks in central Indiana, and all-ages art workshops in the Metro East. Last year, True Pure Brave Art held these workshops at Courage and Grace, in Edwardsville, and Willoughby Heritage Farm and Conservation Reserve, in Collinsville. True Pure Brave Art kids’ programs not only teach children new art skills, but do so while encouraging them to be true to themselves and unearth their singular gifts. For workshops, True Pure Brave Art provides quality wooden items and all the supplies to create “gifts of art from the heart.” “I was geared up for that and realized it may not happen,” Beck said. “But, I’m definitely finding the positives. We need to make sure and be still. I say to my girls, ‘The less you have to be, the more that you can see.’” Through True Pure Brave Art, Beck nurtures individuals’ creativity, which takes all forms in multiple mediums. “You don’t have to have fancy art supplies,” she said. “Take what you have, and do what you can. Even if you have only ten minutes, take whatever you have and create, and whatever you create, make to share. Art doesn’t have to be hung in a gallery to be art. “Art is such great therapy. That’s why I tell about different artists on my True Pure Brave Art Facebook page and do the art, too,” she explained. “I post the final artwork to inspire.” True Pure Brave Art is for anybody, including adults and senior citizens, who Beck hopes to get more involved in future programs. “This is what I want to do,” she said. “It might not make a lot of money, but at the end of the day, money does not make you who you are and does not make you happy. This time is not about making money, it’s about helping a family whose grandpa is alone in a nursing
home, or the family that just lost their jobs. If you can make someone smile, that’s priceless.” Beck also illustrated a children’s book, “Grit, Not Grits,” by Lisa Cox, with contributor Marcie Cates, published in partnership with the Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Indiana, to which a percentage of sales is donated. For “Grit, Not Grits,” Beck participated in Edwardsville Public Library’s inaugural book fair last summer, and presentations about illustrations at the Edwardsville Arts Center and with the Macoupin County Arts Council. At approximately 8 a.m. each morning, Vetter uploads or posts a video from one of the fitness resources, rotating days until each one has participated and then she rotates again with additional routines. “We reached out to Edwardsville fitness facilities, and they were very responsive and eager,” Vetter recalled. “I share information about the facility, tag their page and whatever else I can do to help them.”
Community Exercising Together’s upcoming workouts, all begin at approximately 8 a.m. at the Edwardsville Parks and Recreation Facebook page. • Edwardsville Fit Body Boot Camp – Thursday, April 9 • RunWell – Friday, April 10

When the need concludes for the program, at the end of Community Exercising Together Vetter will take each person’s name who commented each day on a video and draw for an attendance prize, which will be items contributed by the fitness businesses. “We just wanted to have a little goody incentive,” Vetter said. Any Edwardsville area fitness business that wants to participate can send Vetter an email at tvetter@cityofedwardsville.com. Those businesses will be added to the Community Exercising Together rotation. “A fitness expert is doing the class along with the person at home, still getting a workout, doing exercise, but doing it safely in their house or yard, encouraging those at home, either working or with their kids. Even though you can’t go to Planet Fitness or the YMCA, hopefully this will keep people moving and exercising,” said Edwardsville Parks and Recreation Director Nate Tingley. “We also want to help people to find activities to do to stay active and will post those ideas there, like having a camp out in the backyard or a board game night,” Tingley said. Sustainable in-home workout ideas, tips from SSP Wellness By Dustin Heiser For All About…
ALTON — The success of any workout program depends on the adherence to the program, Senior Services Plus (SSP) Wellness Coordinator Dustin Heiser noted, including when staying home, also known as “sheltering in place.” “You must exercise to gain its benefits, so adherence is essential,” said Heiser, whose physical workplace is temporarily closed, following the state’s mandatory guidelines for all non-essential businesses. “For example, I will walk on my in-home treadmill for thirty minutes,” he explained, “and complete a fifteen-minute core exercise routine each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.” He offered the following tips to get the best from an athome workout. ♥ Stick to a schedule Make your schedule specific, realistic and attainable. ♥ Work with what you have/get creative If you have home exercise equipment that is great, it’s time to dust off the dumbbells or return the treadmill to operating position, instead of coat hanger position. If you do not have any equipment, do not stress. There are endless options for exercise and the best part is, every bit counts toward physical fitness. Canned goods can double as light freeweights and body weight can make up a lot of resistance. ♥ Bodyweight exercises/ ideas for an in-home routine Bodyweight exercises are a simple, effective way to improve balance, flexibility and strength without gym machines or equipment. From legs and shoulders to chest and abs, it covers every part of your body that can get stronger with body resistance alone. 1. The Plank — This exercise trains a person’s core strength and stability, so
much so in fact, the plank even is used as an assessment for such. To plank, you need minimal space and equipment. Ideally a mat is used, but not essential. There are many ways to progress the exercise or regress the exercise, making it an option for nearly everyone. For example, a beginner plank could be performed by keeping the knees on the floor while maintaining hip and core stability using your elbows, forearms, and hands as the other points of contact to the floor. Hold for just a few seconds, and then repeat for a number of sets. An advanced plank could be performed by supporting your core and body in a straight or neutral (push-up position) with only one hand and opposite foot. For example, (left foot and right hand). Include push-up variations for added plank challenges. 2. Air Squats/Lunges — An air squat is synonymous with a bodyweight squat and, similarly, the bodyweight lunge. These exercises strengthen the lower body and can improve one’s balance. Performing air squats requires no equipment, but equipment could be added in the form of added weight or object, which, in this case, adds resistance. Keeping the spine neutral and the feet flat, bend both legs and the knees, as if sitting, but then return to standing. Performing lunges requires an offset stance and focuses more on the legs unilaterally. Do multiple sets or rounds to progress and advance in the program. 3. Abdominal Exercises — These exercises strengthen and improve the muscular endurance of the very important muscle groups located in the abdomen. These exercises require enough space in which you can be lying on your back. Perform exercises such as, but not limited to, crunches,

sit ups, flutter kicks, toe taps, bicycle kicks, etc. Your only limited by your creativity in regard to the types of exercise that can be beneficial to one’s health. While staying home, continue to exercise to stay fit.

Innovative fitness programs for seniors
It is important to stay active and eat healthy foods in an effort to promote fitness and well-being. This is especially true for seniors, many of whom lead increasingly sedentary lifestyles as they age. The American Heart Association says adults should get at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week, or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity, and a Harvard University study says that exercise can be an insurance policy for heart health. Today’s seniors have more fitness options at their disposal than ever before. SilverSneakers® is the leading community fitness program for older adults in the United States. SilverSneakers® members can participate in specially curated pro-
grams at participating gyms and community centers across the nation. According to the organization, there are more participating fitness locations available than there are Starbucks® coffee establishments. Classes are fit for everyone, no matter their experience level. Those concerned about gym costs may find that SilverSneakers® already is included in their Medicare Advantage plan for no additional cost. Plus, there is access to healthy living discounts from participating businesses. Canada has begun to develop its own senior-centric fitness programs. The Healthy, Safe and Strong group exercise program is an introduction to safe exercises available for adults age 60 and older in the province of Ontario. The program
can help develop better stamina, maintain or improve balance and increase strength and endurance. StrongerU Senior Fitness is a relatively new program of pre-choreographed group fitness offering instruction in four program types: cardio, strength training, stretching, and circuit training. The program addresses a need in Canada for quality and consistent senior fitness programing. As studies show that engaging in physical activity is the most effective way for aging men and women to stay healthy, more adults may be compelled to join fitness groups that cater to the 50-and-over market.

Food for Thought …with Vicki Bennington
Not Just for Chicks! By Vicki Bennington For The Edge
Chicken salad on croissant with pasta salad, pickle spear and buttercream frosted cookie. As far as I’m concerned, chicken salad, in general, is one of the most delicious creations ever. It’s definitely one of my “go-tos” when going out to lunch. And there are many versions of chicken salad out there. I like them all. I was able to try out Chicken Salad Chick in Edwardsville, just before the current social distancing mandates were ordered by the state because of the coronavirus pandemic, and I knew then, I found a place that would become a favorite hangout. So many different chicken salads to try! Fortunately, the restaurant is now offering curbside pickup, and have even delivered orders on specific days to Alton and other surrounding communities, which
was a seamless, “touchless” order and you pay online. They have also had specific days for bringing curbside to Wood River, Fairview Heights and Belleville, the latter pair all the way in St. Clair County. Orders are brought at a designated time and date to a specific spot for easy, “nocontact” delivery. Both times that I have eaten at Chicken Salad Chick (eating-in and the normal delivery option), I got the same thing. It must have been good, right? I stuck with the basic chicken salad sandwich — on croissant — called the “Classic Carol.” It’s all white meat, with celery, mayo and a “secret” seasoning. I liked the sound of my “Carol” but it took me a minute to realize that there were a lot of women’s names on the menu. There’s the “Olivia’s Old South,” which includes sweet pickles and egg; “Fancy Nancy, with Fuji apples, seedless grapes and pecans; or, the “Kickin’ Kay Lynne,” a spicy choice with buffalo sauce, ranch, bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, jalapeños and sriracha sauce, among many others.

Residents say COVID-19 rules not being followed
By Jill Moon jill.moon@hearst.com
EDWARDSVILLE — A gray area is coming up in green spaces because of Illinois’ coronavirus stay-at-home order. Issued by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, the order allows people to go outside to exercise, take a walk, ride a bike — as long as they maintain 6 feet of social distance. Some youngsters might not understand the order’s implications. But their neighbors and onlookers are expressing concerns about youth congregating in subdivisions’ private parks, open green space, parking lots and basketball courts. Municipal and state parks, along with playgrounds, are closed because frequently touched surfaces increase COVID-19 transmission, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Edwardsville Parks and Recreation Department is enforcing measures to help people stay safe, stating all playground equipment is closed and park facilities are not sanitized. “As far as parks go, we know we need to close off many parts of the public parks that put people in too close of contact,” said Parks and Recreation Director Nate Tingley. “Restrooms,
water fountains, pavilions, benches, equipment — all closed. “And we took down volleyball nets and the basketball rims to make them not usable, to take that temptation away from people, to protect them from themselves and protect the loved ones they may come in contact with who are more susceptible to sickness,” Tingley said. “But, at the same time, we continue to allow the use of sidewalks and walking trail, following social distancing guidelines, still being responsible, as an individual or family, washing hands before going to a park and after returning home,” Tingley said. “If someone has symptoms they shouldn’t be out, using commonsense guidelines and to follow what we all are expected to do.” Tingley said the department has used yellow caution tape and signs to indicate closed parts and equipment at public parks. “Single benches at Leclaire Lake Park are taped up,” he said. “We are doing the best we can to use these measures as deterrents. “It’s not absolute because, obviously, these can be torn down, he said. “But it’s something we’ve been monitoring on a regular basis so that people understand it’s for their own good to be responsible and thoughtful of others.
“It’s bittersweet, kind of sad, because we like to see people and families balancing exercise, sunshine and fresh air,” Tingley said. “But they can’t do so with others who don’t live in the same house.” Residents of the Glenwood Estates in Glen Carbon also have similar concerns at the subdivision’s private park. Glenwood Estates is located near the intersection of Interstate 270 and Illinois 157. On Nextdoor, a social media platform that encourages neighbors to communicate with one another, a Sherwood on the Lake resident posted that there have been “many people” playing at the park and not social distancing. The post said all parks are closed and asked residents to “be more considerate and make sure your children know what they should be doing.” Susan Jensen, president of the Glenwood Estates homeowners association, said the group’s board of directors has received residents’ complaints about people congregating in the subdivision’s park. “For the last week, the board has been communicating through emails,” she said. “The board has decided to officially close the park and is in the process of placing this information on Glenwood Estates’ Facebook page and
website. “We are placing a sign there,” she said. “But the sign business must be busy because it will take two weeks to get the sign. “I don’t live near the park — I haven’t seen this — so I’m glad someone contacted me,” Jensen said. ”To me it would be common sense to not let your kids do that. We’re doing our best to get this out there.” Brighton residents voiced concerns about the gatherings on the Brighton Neighbors and Village of Brighton Facebook pages. The village’s Schieder Park is closed, but kids continue to gather and play on a basketball court, the posts state. On March 27, Brighton officials used Facebook to urge residents to adhere to the stayat-home order and the 6-foot social distancing advice. ”In addition we our limiting the use at the parks to no one on the playground equipment and basketball court,” the village posted. “Please use the 6-feet distancing rule when walking on the walking track and other areas of the park. ”We need to do our part in keeping the virus from spreading in our area and our wonderful village,” the post stated. “This will save lives.”
The James H. Killion Park at Salu in Alton has joined Gordon Moore Park and many other area parks in closing, in part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus on playground equipment and by youths gathering to play basketball. (John Badman | The Edge)

things I recently discovered through Netflix: • “Schitt’s Creek” — This Canadian sitcom concluded its sixth season April 7 on Pop TV, with a series finale, immediately followed with “Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: A Schitt’s Creek Farewell.” But if you missed the farewell special, you still can relive the antics of the riches-to-rags Rose family (Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Dan Levy and Annie Murphy) as they are forced to trade their jet-set lifestyle for “Green Acres” laughs, settling in a small town the family once bought, as a practical joke. I barely cracked a smile during the pilot, but it grows on you. • Rom-coms — There’s a never-ending stream of them if you’re willing to take a chance on questionable casting and formulaic plot. But, of course you are. That’s why “He’s Just Not That Into You,” “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” and “Let It Snow” even exist. Last year, “Always Be My Maybe” was my favorite Netflix rom-com, a sweet story about two friends (comedians Ali Wong and Randall Park), who are too stupid to realize they’re in love with each other, until she starts literally dating Keanu Reeves (playing a version of himself that is too funny for actual words) instead. • “Tiger King” — It dropped a few weeks ago, and it’s insanely weird. I don’t go in for this kind of thing, like, say, my brother-in-law would. But

have at it, if you can stomach documentary-style depictions of real-life rednecks, who happen to live in Oklahoma (no offense to Oklahomans), who run a “big cat” I-don’t-know-what-you-callit. The documentarians indicate it’s not good a good place for wild carnivorous cats, such as lions and tigers, that it’s a really bad place. “Tiger King” also is a murder-for-hire mystery, all based on real life events. The doc’s trailer put me off, even for a small investment for a seven-part limited series. Use caution friends. It’s easy to fall down a Netflix rabbit hole where you lose track of time. This is, in part, the reason I watched six Harrison Ford movies last week. “Patriot Games” (1992) was the only one of his flicks I hadn’t seen, and it served to fill a Jack Ryan-sized hole in my schedule. All of the “Indiana Jones” titles are there, too, and they hold up beautifully. If you really get stuck, there’s always “13 Reasons Why’s” first season of the drama web series, originally developed for Netflix as a limited series, by Brian Yorkey, based on the 2007 novel “Thirteen Reasons Why,” by Jay Asher. “13 Reasons” reminds us that beautifully created theatrical work is everywhere. The time is now to discover it (while staying home), even after a day of hard-to-watch news. Keep the faith. We’ll get through this.

On The Edge of the Weekend wins state award
The Intelligencer, The Telegraph win multiple editorial awards The Edge EDWARDSVILLE — The Intelligencer, The Telegraph in Alton and The Journal-Courier in Jacksonville — Hearst Newspapers’ publications in Illinois — won a combined 27 awards in this year’s Illinois Press Association editorial contest for 2019 published works. The awards typically are announced during the association’s annual convention but were released last week after the conference was rescheduled because of the coronavirus pandemic. “The Edge” editor-in-chief Jill Moon won a second-place award for special sections for the On The Edge of the Weekend biweekly magazine. On The Edge of the Weekend was redesigned in 2018, when Moon took the editorial helm of The Intelligencer’s nearly Badman 20-year-old publication, which focuses on culture, the arts and, in particular, the Edwardsville community. She also won a third-place award for feature writing – personality profile for “All that
glitters,” which first appeared as a cover story of On The Edge of the Weekend. The piece later published in a daily edition of The Telegraph, for which Moon is the assistant editor to managing editor Ron DeBrock. The profile featured a teen social media Hayes influencer from Alton. The Intelligencer was chosen for two awards. Sports editor Matt Kamp received a first-place award for sports news and managing editor Brittany Johnson received a fourth-place award for special sections with I on Local. The Telegraph received 18 awards, of which the total includes those won by Moon. Photographer John Badman won two firstplace awards, one in general news photo and one in informational graphics. He also won second place in general news photo and secondand third-place awards in spot news photos. Sports editor Pete Hayes won first- and second-place awards for sports columns. He and sports reporter Greg Shashack also won a third-
place award for sports sections. The staff received a second-place award in series news reporting for its coverage of last year’s historic flooding, as well as fourth-place awards in community service and overall newspaper design, respectively. Cousins Reporter Scott Cousins won two fourth-place awards, one for government reporting and one for feature writing; and, reporter Jeanie Stephens received a fourth-place award in personality profile – feature writing. Managing editor Ron DeBrock won two fourthplace awards — one in headline writing and one for single-page design. The JournalCourier staff received first place in series Moon news reporting for its news package “Losing Illinois.” The articles examined
the migration of people and jobs leaving Illinois, what it means to smaller communities and what is being done to address the issue. The staff also received a thirdplace award in community service for its annual “Bright Christmas” series, in which it matches Stephens those in need in the community with resources, and also received a third-place award for informational graphics. In all, the Journal-Courier won seven awards in the annual competition. Sports editor Dennis Mathes received a second-place honor in sports photography for a photograph from a Jacksonville High School Crimsons football game. Former city editor Rosalind Essig received a third-place award for her obituary for longtime Congressman Paul Findley. Managing editor David C.L. Bauer received a second-place award for headline writing and a third-place award for single-page design for the paper’s retrospective on the Woodstock anniversary. The newspapers all are among contenders in the competition for general excellence and sweepstakes trophies, which will be announced Oct. 23 in Springfield.
Gaga raises $35M for virus fight, curates all-star TV event
By MESFIN FEKADU AP Music Writer
NEW YORK (AP) — Lady Gaga and advocacy organization Global Citizen have raised $35 million to fight the coronavirus and will launch a TV special featuring Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Billie Eilish to combat the growing virus. Gaga said on Monday that the money was raised in seven days and will benefit The World Health Organization. The pop star and Global Citizen also announced "One World: Together At Home," a televised event aimed at fighting the coronavirus. It will air April 18 at 8 p.m. Eastern simultaneously on ABC, NBC, CBS, iHeartMedia and Bell Media networks. "I would like to reiterate our deep gratitude
to the medical community. My heart is very achy and warm for those who are ER doctors as well as nurses who are sleeping in cars to make sure they don't infect their families or their patients. What you are doing is putting yourself in harm's way to help the world and we all salute you," Gaga said during a news conference Monday. "What's very important is three things happening for all of us. That we celebrate and we highlight the singular kind global community that is arising right now. Two, we want to highlight the gravity of this historical, unprecedented cultural movement. And three, we want to celebrate and encourage the power of the human spirit," she said. The multi-hour TV special, which will also stream live on YouTube, Apple, Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter and more platforms, will include appearances by Elton John, David Beckham, John Legend, Eddie Vedder, Kerry Washington, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Lizzo, J Balvin, Andrea Bocelli and Maluma. Idris Elba and his wife, Sabrina Elba, who both tested posted for coronavirus, will also take part in the special. Gaga said the money raised will help buy much-needed protective gear for health workers, improve lab capacities and further research and development into possible drugs and vaccines to treat the new coronavirus. The singer said she plans to raise more money and explained that the TV special is not a fundraiser: "Put your wallets away ... and sit back and enjoy the show you all deserve." Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy
Kimmel will host "One World: Together At Home," which will also highlight those affected by the virus and celebrate health care workers on the front lines. For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death. Others taking part in the TV special include Green Day's Billy Joe Armstrong, Lang Lang, Kacey Musgraves, Alanis Morissette, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Shah Rukh Khan, Keith Urban, Burna Boy and Eilish's producer-brother, Finneas.
