To say that Manistee’s Alec Lampen has been off to a hot start to the season would be an understatement. The junior took first place in the 100 yard backstroke at the Holland Christian Division 3 Invitational on Jan 14th with a school-record time of 51.67. Lampen set a pool record at Ludington’s Don Baldwin pool in the 100 yard backstroke on Jan. 19 with a time of 53.93.

While the Chippewas fell short of a team Coasta Conference Championship, many of its members earned individual titles on Feb. 25. One of those individuals was senior Travor Adamczak. He was part of the 200 yard freestyle and 400 yard freestyle relays which earned first-place finishes while qualifying for state finals in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.10.

During a home meet against Ludington on Feb. 9, Manistee’s Tug Thuemmel earned a pair of individual victories. The senior earned a first-place finish with the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.95 and a first-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:10.95, a time fast enough to qualify him for state finals.

The Junior earned a pair of double-doubles last week, earning 23 points and 13 rebounds against Reed City on Jan. 31 and accumulated 14 points and 10 rebounds against Whitehall on Feb. 2.

Manistee girls soccer is off to a scorching 4-0 start to its 2023 season. Exchange student Emily Rabeler has helped the cause, netting the game winning goals in a 1-0 win over Montague on April 12 and in the Chippewas 2-1 win against Suttons Bay on April 14.

The reigning district champions are off to a respectable 3-2-1 start to the 2023 season. Junior Zach Griffis finished 3-for-5 with a double, walk and 3 RBI in a doubleheader against Mason County Eastern on April 10 while allowing one earned run off two hits with four strikeouts in two innings of relief. He also finished 2-for6 with 2 RBI in a doubleheader at Mesick on April 13.

In the first outdoor meet of his freshman campaign, MCC’s Andrew Potter turned in a pair of string performances in the Manistee Early Bird meet on April 5. Potter earned a first-place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.62 seconds and in the 300 meter hurdles (48.36) and a second-place finish in the 110 meter hurdles (20.53).

A three-time reigning state champion, Jones set himself apart in a pair of events this past week In the Huskies conference opener, Jones cruised to a first place finish with a time of 16:03.0. To follow his performance, Benzie Central tripped to compete in the Ottawa Hills Invitational Jones bumped up to compete with bigger schools and claimed another first place finish. His time of 14:43.2 was also a course record.
