School: Calhoun High School
Volleyball - Zipprich produced kills on nine of 11 swings to hit .818 and the Warriors overpowered the Taylorville Tornadoes 25-10, 25-11 Thursday in a Western Illinois Valley Conference match in Griggsville. Calhoun is 16-0 and 5-0 in the WIVC.

Cross Country - Wyman, a senior running in her first major race for the Southwestern Piasa Birds, ran the three-mile course at Wilson Park in 19 minutes, 33.60 seconds to finish 18th in a field of 162 girls at the Robinson/Lang Invitational cross country meet.

Golf - A senior, Siatos won the Southwestern Conference Tournament. He had rounds of 72 and 74 to finish off a 36-hole 146 that delivered a four-stroke victory over Alton High teammate teammate and SWC runner-up Sam Ottwell. The SWC championship is the first for an Alton golfer in more than 25 years.

Football - Elliott-Barnes caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Riley Smith with 43 seconds remaining in Alton’s 28-24 Week 3 victory over Triad Friday night at Public School Stadium. His TD catch secured Alton’s first victory of the season.

Volleyball - Klaas, a senior was named the Most Valuable Player at the Ray Long Pretzel Classic after helping the Warriors win the championship and run their record to 15-0. Klaas had 13 kills and Calhoun beat Athens in three sets for the title. She is an Illinois College recruit.

School: Alton High School
Golf - A junior, Ottwell shot a career-best 4-under par round of 67 at Tamarack Golf Course in Shiloh to win the O’Fallon Panther Classic by four shots. Ottwell, who is averaging 73.1 strokes from nine 18-hole rounds, led the Redbirds to seventh place in the 19-team field.

Football - A senior quarterback, Lorton led the Warriors to a 61-0 victory over No. 8-ranked Carrollton in WIVC football action. Lorton rushed for 131 yards and scored four touchdowns. Through the air, Lorton completed three of three attempts and one touchdown pass.

Volleyball - Pohlman earned All-Tournament honors after helping Calhoun win the Fran Struble Invitational at Carlinville. In a 25-16, 25-16 victory over Greenfield/Northwestern, she had 25 assists and in a 25-7, 25-16 win over Greenville, Pohlman served seven aces.

Cross Country - At the annual Madison County Cross Country Meet at Wilson Park in Granite City, Edwardsville’s Coll was the large-schools champion in a time of 19:19.50 over the three-mile course. Her time was good for the third-place finish overall.

Tennis - Libby McCormick won the No.1 singles title at the Mississippi Valley Conference meet, defeating Highland’s Sophia Fleming 6-4, 6-2.
It was part of a Panthers deluge. Jersey won five championships, including four doubles crowns on its way to the MVC team championship.

Tennis - The doubles team of Crawford and Noble had a big week for the Panthers. After winning the doubles title at the Marquette Sectional early in the week,they went 2-0 on Day 1 and advanced to the second day at their second IHSA State Tourney in Chicago before bowing with an overall 4-2 state mark.

Golf - Ottwell, a junior at AHS, shot 2-under par 70 on Day 2 after a first-day 78 and finished in fifth place at the Class 3A state tournament at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington. Ottwell’s 148 score is the best state score in Alton High history.

School: Civic Memorial High School
Cross Country - Max Weber, a sophomore, became Civic memorial’s first Mississippi Valley champion in 23 years by winning the MVC Cross Country Meet’s boys division race. He completed the three-mile course at Principia College in a time in 15 minutes. 33.80 seconds.

School: Southwestern High School
Football - Rimbey, a sophomore quarterback, rushed for 92 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns and was 4-of5 through the air with a TD pass to lead the Piasa Birds to a 35-7 victory over Hillsboro and with it, a berth in the IHSA playoffs. On the season, he has thrown 12 TD passes and rushed for five.

Volleyball - Nolan had five kills in an openingset rally and helped the Bulldogs come back to defeat rival Carlinville 25-231 and 25-16 to win the championship of the East Alton-Wood River Class 2A Regional.

Football - Wells scored three touchdowns and gained 195 yards rushing in leading the Roxana Shells past Paris in the Class 3A playoffs. Wells, a senior, also had a solo tackle and an assist on defense.

School: Edwardsville High School
Swimming - A sophomore, Oertle captured three medals at the IHSA Girls State Swim Meet in suburban Chicago. She was 14th in the 50-yard freestyle and swam anchor on the Tigers’ ninth-place 200 yard medley relay and the 13th place 200 freestyle relay team. EHS was 18th in the team standings.

Football - Wells, a senior, rushed for 128 yards on 21 carries and scored a pair of TDs for the Shells in their 56-30 road victory over Stanford Olympia in the quarterfinals of the IHSA Class 3Astate football playoffs. Wells also had a pair of solo tackles and three assists on defense.

Basketball-Powers, a junior, scored 54 points in three games and led the Redbirds to a repeat as champions of the Alton Tip-Off Classic. An All-Stater as a sophomore, Powers scored 24 points against North Point, nine against Hazelwood West and 21 points in the Alton title game win over Lift For Life Academy.”

Football - Pembrook passed for 144 yards with three touchdowns in the Tigers’ loss to Camp Point Central in the IHSA Class 1A semifinals. The left-handed Pembrook passed the 2,000-yard passing mark in the game and finished the season with 30 touchdown passes and in his career threw 47 TD passes.

Basketball - Lowis, a junior, erupted for 43 points in the Piasa Birds’ final two games in the Roxana Hoopsgiving Tournament. He scored 26 points in Southwestern’s 6150 victory over Staunton, including six 3-point baskets. In a 53-52 win over rival Jersey, Lowis scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers.

Basketball - Ogden scored 49 points in four games to lead the Eagles to the championship of the Taylorville Thanksgiving Tournament. She scored 14 points in CM’s 54-37 win over Taylorville in the championship game. She also scored 20 points in the semifinals against Hillsboro, including six 3-point baskets.

Basketball - Kline, scored 17 points, including five points in overtime, to lead Marquette toa 51-49 victory over Breese Mater Dei. Kline made two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, then added another trey and made two free throws to score five of the Explorers’ seven points in OT.

Basketball - Kline scored a combined 65 points in three games and helped the Explorers go 2-1 on the week and 6-1 overall. A 6-foot-2 senior, Kline scored 32 points in a win over Father McGivney, 19 in a win over Metro-East Lutheran and 14 in a loss to MICDS at McKendree University

Wrestling - Murphy, a freshman, pinned all three opponents she faced and won the championship of the 100-pound weight class Friday at the first Granite City Girls Wrestling Tournament. She pinned Edwardsville’s Genevieve Dykstra, Mount Vernon’s Lily Davis and Edwardsville’s Alison Kirk.

Basketball -Procter, a junior point guard for Alton High, scored 19 points, including four 3- point baskets, and helped the Redbirds stay unbeaten with a 55-50 victory over defending state champion O’Fallon on the road in a key Southwestern Conference game at the Panther Dome.
Basketball - Braden Kline scored 30 points in a 79-32 victory over Maryville Christian and reached the 1,000-point career scoring mark. He had 20 points by halftime and reached 1,000 with his 10th point of the third quarter.

wrestling - Alanna Hickman went 3-0 and won the 170-pound title at the Joe Bee Classic in Springfield. She won two of her three matches by pin, including the title bout win over Alex Arquilla of Chatham Glenwood.

Basketball - Senior Tessa Crawford’s 28-point outburst in a 50-44 Mississippi Valley Conference victory over Triad lifted her past the 1,500-point career scoring milestone. She is No. 4 on the Jersey all-time scoring list and the fourth Panther with more than 1,500 career points.

Basketball - Junior Ian Brantley scored 28 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Southwestern to a 79-61 South Central Conference win over Gillespie. Through 18 games, Brantley is averaging 22 points and eight rebounds per game for the 12-6 Piasa Birds.

Wrestling - Bryce Griffin, the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the state at 157 pounds, pinned three straight opponents and rolled to the championship of his weight class at the Bethalto Class 2A Regional Tournament. Griffin will now advance to the sectional tournament, where he hopes to qualify for the IHSA State Tourney.

Wrestling - Hickman, a senior, capped her high school wrestling career with an 8-2 victory over El Paso Gridley’s Savannah Hamilton in the 155-pound weight class thirdplace match at the IHSA Girls state Wrestling Tournament in Bloomington. Hickman was 5-1 overall at the state tourney.

Soccer - After scoring a goal and adding an assist, Loveless was inserted in at goalie for an overtime penalty kick shootout and made three saves to help Carlinville defeat Gilespie in the Kickoff Classic on Route 66. Loveless scored 31 goals last season.
