Bad Axe transforms into WhoVille Tribune Staff Reports BAD AXE — The Bad Axe area is transforming into a very familiar fictional environment. Come Saturday, Bad Axe will look much like WhoVille. The sneaky Grinch figured out that Santa’s elves hid
candy canes all over the Bad Axe football field and has plans to turn them all green. And, area children will have a chance to find them. From 10:15 to 10:45 a.m., the festive children will head out to find a candy cane that’s already turned green and will receive a special prize.
Sponsored by the local chamber of commerce and Thumb Industries, all little boys and girls will have an opportunity to meet the Grinch. The meet and greet will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bad Axe Middle School. Aside from meeting the Grinch, children will be able
to enjoy games, Christmas crafts, balloon animals and a few contests and giveaways. Also happening Saturday will be the annual Protectors vs. Directors fundraiser basketball game, hosted by the Huron Area Technical Center’s Law/Public Safety program.
Tipoff begins at noon and all proceeds/donations will go toward Huron County Toys for Tots. The game, which is played at Bad Axe Middle School, will feature local police/ fire/EMS personnel taking on area teachers and sports coaches.

Harbor Beach Christmas Parade planned for Dec. 1 BY MIKE GALLAGHER Tribune Staff Writer HARBOR BEACH — For the 33rd year, Harbor Beach is set to host the Harbor Beach Christmas Parade. “Our community loves it,” said Shelley Boehmer, who is on the Christmas Parade Committee. “Visitors come from all over. Families get together on this weekend for the parade, and often times, we have heard that folks have their family reunions or their holiday gatherings on that Saturday, so that they can attend the parade.” The parade, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1, featured over 50 participants last year, and Boehmer said they are expecting much of the same this year. The parade route is east on State Street to the light, then south on Huron Avenue to Trescott Street in Harbor

Beach. Boehmer and the committee encourage as much interaction between parade participants and spectators as possible, which includes many of the parade attractions handing out candy. Registrations for the parade were due Nov. 16, but the committee will accept them after that date, if necessary. “We have many different things to see,” Boehmer said. “Farm implements that are lighted, to the trucks that the county brings in, and the firetrucks. Schools from the whole Thumb all participate. A lot of people pass out goodies along the parade route, lots of music and nice lights, and it is just a great way to kick off the holiday season.” More information about the parade, including information about registration, can be found at www.harborbeachchristmasparade.com.
