Brandon Sims and the Crimsons aim for regional repeat

2025 HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL PREVIEWS

BEARDSTOWN

Coach: Brian Dour

Last year’s record: 9-15

Returning starters: Tannar Riddell, Trey Riddell, Colby DeSollar, Zach Meyer, Parker Bell, Ethan Heller, Zach DeSollar

Key losses: Gustavo Cortes

Pitching: Anchoring the pitching staff will be Tannar Riddell, a Carl Sandburg College commit. Other pitchers include Colby DeSollar, Trey Riddell and Zach DeSollar.

All pitchers have varsity experience and good arms, and they throw strikes.

Hitting: Beardstown’s top hitters figure to be Ethan Heller, a Louis and Clark Community College commit, along with Zach Meyer, Parker Bell and Colby DeSollar.

We return our leadoff through four hitters, three of whom were freshmen last year. With a second year of experience, the sky is the limit.

We return a lot of other players who had experience starting last year. We should have some very good practices, with players competing for starting spots all over the field.

Season outlook: We should be ready to compete for a regional championship this year.

BROWN COUNTY

Coach: Jared Hoots

Last year’s record: 14-16

Returning starters: Maverick Henry INF/OF (.337, 5 HR, 30 RBI), Jack Buss C (.238), Dylan Reische DH/1B (.219), Vlad Rebarcak INF (.359, 3 HR, 28 RBI), Matt

Boylen INF (.388, 23 RBI), Collin Dieterle INF (.395, 18 RBI), Myer Maxwell INF/OF (.300 16 RBI), Conner Flynn INF (.272), Wyatt Kassing OF (.175), Jack Sefton OF (.329) Key losses: Eli Blakley Key newcomers: Not a newcomer, but Tyce Fullerton and Thomas Boylen, coming back from missing last year due to injury, and a full year for Collin Dieterle will help the Hornets. Fullerton hit .429 with 38 RBIs his sophomore year, and Boylen started most of his freshman year in right field.

Freshman Micheal Kassing looks to fight for playing time coming off a good freshman basketball season.

Pitching: On the mound Myer Maxwell and Matt Boylen were our two conference starters last year as freshmen. Tyce Fullerton was a conference starter as a sophomore on a 20-win team. Conner Flynn and Ei Staton both made great strides on the mound last year and will fight for innings. Both Kassings, Wyatt and Michael, along with Sefton, Reische, and Rebarcak will also toe the rubber for the Hornets. If all goes well, the Hornets may get Dieterle back on the mound sometime this spring.

Hitting: I believe we will put a very productive lineup out there that can hit top to bottom. We will have good competition between players to get into the lineup. We have a good mix of power and speed, and are still pretty young overall.

Fielding: We have a lot of versatility in the field with guys who are just baseball players and can play multiple positions. A lot will depend on who is on the mound. Our depth and flexibility will be key this year.

2025 HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL PREVIEWS

Season outlook: We return a lot from last year’s team that won 14 games. Seven of our losses were by one run, with a runner at second base. We are also still young but have experience. Our goal as always is to compete for a conference and regional championship, then see what happens in the postseason.

CARROLLTON

Coach: Ryan Howard

Last year’s record: 9-20

Returning starters:

Koby Schnelten OF, senior

Carson Flowers OF, junior

Eli Flowers P/3B, senior

Dagan Cordes P/SS, senior

Carson Grafford 2B, senior

Charlie Stumpf P/1B, junior

Eli Cox P/1B, junior

Lucas Howard P/C, senior

We have graduated two starting seniors over the past two years. This year will be the third and fourth year for these boys starting at the varsity level. They had successful football and basketball seasons, and are committed to each other. They are looking to have a lot of fun together this spring.

Key losses: Caleb Howard P/ CF

Key newcomers: Incoming freshmen Garrett Flowers,

Brady Clendenen, Gavin Morell and Ian Mauer. Also new this year are senior Grant Cox and junior Eli Rhoades.

GREENFIELDNORTHWESTERN

Coach: Jacob McEvers

Last year’s record: 23-14, 8-1 WIVC record, regional champions, sectional semifinalist

Returning starters:

Talon Albrecht, senior, MIF/P (.367 AVG, .448 OBP, 47 H, 25 RBI, 32 R; 54 IP, 6-2 W/L, 34 ER, 55 K) — Talon has played a majority of the innings over the past three season. He brings experience and success both at the plate and in the field. We will be looking to lean on that this spring.

Griffin Rothe (.426 OBP, 18 H, 2 HR, 25 R, 23 BB) — Griffin has played nearly every inning defensively the past two seasons, and will be asked to do even more this spring. He has continued to grow at the plate, and will be a big piece of our success in 2025.

Kayden Roberts (.286 AVG, .391 OBP, 22 H, 5 2B, 2 HR, 23 RBI) — Kayden really elevated our team defense at first base last season, but did most of his damage at the plate late in the year. We are hoping he is able to build on his postseason success going into his junior season.

Wyatt Stuart (20 H, 9 RBI, 12 R; 37 IP, 2-0 W/L, 7 ER, 48 K, team-best 1.312 ERA) — Wyatt has played every inning over the past two years, and has chewed up some big innings during postseason play. He is a great competitor, and one of our leaders going into this spring.

Brock Bowman (.284 AVG, .420 OBP, 31 H, 19 RBI; 28 IP, 14 ER, 3.41 ERA) — Brock beat Jacksonville and Waterloo Gibault in his final two starts last year. He had a great sophomore season, and will continue to build on that as a junior. He ended up hitting anywhere from third to fifth for us, played a great defensive 2B/ SS, and was the biggest story on the mound going into the postseason, where he knocked out defending state champion Waterloo Gibault in the sectional semifinals, pitching five-and-one-third innings and not allowing an earned run.

Garrett Costello (.394 OBP, 28 H, 3 3B, 4 HR, 22 RBI; 29 IP, 3-1 W/L, 32 LOB) — Garrett has had a great senior year, but we are looking for him to really capitalize in the spring. He has played all four levels of defense for us, and hit in the heart of the order as a junior. We are going to really depend on him this spring, and look forward to him leading our success.

Key losses: We lost four seniors to graduation, and with that we lose a ton of experience

and talent. These young men came into a program following the COVID cancelled season, and left with four consecutive regional championships.

Kohen Vetter — First Team All-State, First Team AllWIVC. Kohen collected 57 hits, a .435 batting average, scored 49 runs and also led the team with seven wins on the mound.

Brody Reif — First Team All-WIVC. Led the team in both home runs (10) and RBIs (46). Had one pitching outing, striking out the only batter he faced on three pitches.

Brayden Roberts — Leadoff hitter and starting center fielder. Brayden brought a lot of experience to our team last season, and played a great center field throughout the year. He led off and set the tone for us, and was clicking at all the right times. He had a .550 on-base percentage during the postseason.

Maddax Coffey — He joined the team late as a guy who had never caught, and spent many months working to become our starting catcher by the end of the season. This allowed us some options defensively that we didn’t anticipate having. His work ethic and leadership played a key role in us getting as far as we did last season.

Key newcomers: Caleb Albracht and Lucas Jones both joined the program last year as juniors, after taking a few years away from baseball.

Caleb was really able to help us on the basepaths, and brought an element to our team that we had not previously had. We are looking forward to his continued growth throughout the season. He can play anywhere in the outfield, and hopefully continue to apply pressure on the bases. Lucas will most likely fit in more on the corner infield and behind the plate this spring. He is a strong kid who worked very hard last year to get back into the game. He will be a viable option at the plate and add some stability and power to the middle of our order.

Ty Bowman, Rimbey White and Layton Walters are all sophomores who played significant roles at the varsity level last spring at different times. All three of those guys are going to have larger roles, and be a big part of the success we have this season.

Pitching: Brock Bowman, Talon Albrecht, Garrett Costello, and Wyatt Stuart combined for 140 innings last spring. We are going to lean on all four of those guys to continue their success from last season. Talon Albrecht (regional championship) and Brock Bowman (sectional semis) both started games during our postseason run, while both Stuart and Costello threw major innings in relief. Wyatt Stuart led the team with a 1.31 ERA over 37 innings, and picked up the win in relief

in the regional title game, going three innings without allowing a run. Talon Albrecht led us in innings pitched, and picked up six wins on the season.

This spring we will be looking forward to Kayden Roberts, Griffin Rothe, Caleb Albracht, Rimbey White, Ty Bowman, and Layton Walters to all pick up big innings in relief. Each of those guys will play a key role in managing arms throughout the spring.

Hitting: We are a team that is losing one guy who had 57 hits, one who had 10 home runs and 46 RBIs, and our leadoff hitter to graduation.

However, we do return nearly 200 hits from last spring, and some great experience over the past few seasons. We will lean on our upperclassmen to really carry the load this year and build on previous success. Albrecht (47 hits), Bowman (31), Costello (28), Roberts (21), Stuart (20), and Rothe (18) all will play big parts in generating offense for us this spring.

Fielding: Catcher — Garrett Costello, Wyatt Stuart, Talon Albrecht, Lucas Jones and Kayden Roberts will take turns behind the dish.

Middle Infield — Talon Albrecht, Brock Bowman and Layton Walters will play big innings up the middle this spring.

Corner Infield: Costello, Stuart, Bowman, Jones,

2025 HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL PREVIEWS

21-14 (6-4 CS8)

Returning starters: Anderson Decker, senior, SS/P — Four-year varsity starter (.326, 36 R, 19 SB / 3.45 ERA, 22 K, 2 SV)

Brandon Sims, senior, C/P — Four-year varsity starter (.366, 31 RBIs, 30 R)

Ryan Luconic, senior, IF/P –Three-year varsity starter (4-4, 2 SV, 4.98 ERA, 60 K)

Jacob Henry, senior, 1B (.261, 13 RBI)

Nolan Peters, junior, 1B –Two-year varsity starter (.314, 15 RBI, 16 R)

Joe Reif, junior, CF — Twoyear varsity starter (.316, 20 RBI, 23 R, 12 SB)

Ryan Headen, sophomore, OF (.266, 23 R)

Key losses: Hayden Hicks and Cody Fry

Key newcomers: AJ Charpentier, junior, 3B/P –Will help eat up innings lost through graduation, and will be a staple on the left side of the infield.

Cy Kershaw, junior, 2B/P — Late last year got a taste of varsity baseball. He will look to anchor second base for us.

Maddox Jessee, senior, OF/P — Will add depth to our outfield and pitching this season

Peters will be a big part of our lineup, which brings back a lot of our offense from last season. We have as much depth offensively as we’ve had in recent years, and we should be able to score runs in a variety of ways.

Fielding: We should be solid defensively, anchored by four-year starter Brandon Sims behind the plate. Decker, Luconic and Charpentier will man the left side of the infield.

Kershaw will look to hold down second base this season, while Nolan Peters and Jacob Henry will take care of the first base duties. Our outfield will again be led by threeyear starter Joe Reif. He will be flanked by Ryan Headen, Ethan Kruzan and Maddox Jessee. Outfield play should be a strength of our team.

Season outlook: We are looking to maintain the momentum from last season’s regional championship, the first in 17 years. We have raised the expectations, and with our core group of returners and key new pieces, we expect to make another postseason run!

NEW BERLIN

Coach:

Bo Gum

BA, 11 2B, 5 HR, 26 RBI); Gannon Dodd — Batted .388 and led the team with 34 runs scored; Trevor Colwell (47.1 IP, 6-3 W/L) — Played an outstanding shortstop. Hit .247; Jacob Roberts CF (.230); Wesley Preckwinkle 2B (.320); Nolan Hart 1B (.263).

Key newcomers: Seniors Keaton Teel, Wyatt Frantz, James Ushman and Mason Scroggins; junior Nolan Robinson; sophomore Carson Dodd; freshman Evan Teel

Pitching: Our pitching should be a strength this season. We lost two key arms in Trevor Colwell and Lucas Bixby, but we return a lot of talented pitchers who have gained valuable experience.

Pitchers: Seniors James Ushman, Wyatt Frantz, Mason Scroggins and Rockman Prince; juniors Reid Hepperly, Nolan Robinson and Caden Colwell; sophomores Carson Dodd, Andy Holloway and Matt Kapinus; and freshmen Evan Teel and Michael Callahan.

Roberts, Rimbey White, Wyatt Smith, Nathan Clark, and Hudson Duncheon will take their turns playing on the corners this spring.

Center Field: Griffin Rothe will be the primary this spring. After two seasons in right field, he will need to make a big jump over to center field. Caleb Albracht, Rimbey White, and Ty Bowman also will take their turns throughout the season.

Corner Outfield: Stuart, Caleb Albracht, Ty Bowman, Rimbey White, and Logan Ross will take turns moving around in the outfield as we navigate through the spring.

Season outlook: We have some good expectations, but most importantly, we want to just continue to build on the foundation of the program. We have had some success in recent seasons, and wish to

continue to have the ability to compete with the teams in our area. The conference will be as strong as ever this year, and we are hopeful to stay in the mix as one of those teams playing well at the start of May.

JACKSONVILLE

Coach: Cory Bunner (12th season)

Last year’s record:

Ethan Kruzan, freshman, OF/P — Will look to man right field for us after the graduation of four-year starter Hayden Hicks. He will also log innings for us as well.

Pitching: Charpentier, Luconic, Decker, and Sims will anchor our rotation with Headen, Kershaw, Jessee and Kruzan getting opportunities early to solidify their roles as well. It will take a collective effort to account for the innings pitched by Cody Fry and Hayden Hicks last season.

Hitting: Sims, Decker and

Last year’s record: 22-14 (lost to Pleasant Plains 2-1 in the regional championship)

Returning starters:

Rockman Prince, senior, IF/ OF/P (.404, 31 R, 24 RBI)

Reid Hepperly, junior, IF/P (.305, 22 RBI; 41 IP, 5-3 W/L)

Caden Colwell, junior, C — Hit .280 and came on strong at the end of the year.

Key losses: Lost six starters, and seven seniors overall, including the following: Lucas Bixby, All-State (61 IP, 8-3 W/L, 108 K; .376

Hitting: We have a lot of guys who will be new to the lineup. Four-year starter Rockman Prince is back, and will find himself in the top of the lineup. He hit .404 last year with 31 runs scored and 24 RBIs. Also asked to carry the offensive load this year will be junior Reid Hepperly (.305, 22 RBI), and junior Caden Colwell, who hit .280 and came on strong at the end of last season.

As a team we will need to find a way to scratch out some runs.

Fielding: Catcher — Caden Colwell

First base — Evan Teel and James Ushman

Second base — Mason Scroggins

Third base — Nolan

2025 HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL PREVIEWS

Robinson

Shortstop — Reid Hepperly (will replace four-year starter Trevor Colwell)

Middle Infield — Carson Dodd will play, depending on who is on the mound.

Outfield — Rockman Prince

Outfield — Wyatt Frantz Outfield — Keaton Teel, Chase Dougherty, Andy Holloway, and Michael Callahan all have an opportunity to see some innings in the outfield.

Designated Hitter — Keaton Teel

Season outlook: We have a lot of optimism and confidence. The past three years we have won over 20 games and made it to the regional championship game twice, losing 2-1 both times. We are ready to get over that hump. Lucas Bixby, a guy who has dominated on the mound the past four years, will be hard to replace. But we have a bunch of baseball dudes that just love to play. And if we can scratch out a few runs, I think we can compete with a lot of teams in the area.

NORTH GREENE

Coach: Joe Kindred

Last year’s record: 5-12 (3-6 WIVC)

Key returners: Garret Hazelwonder (INF/

OF/P), Brody Berry (2B), Preston Bradford (OF/P), Ethan Clark (C), Boen Berry (OF/P)

Key losses: Jacob Hinsey (INF/P), Bradley Barfield (OF/P)

Key newcomers: Kendan Stepp (INF/P), Keatyn Gwartney (INF/P), Brock Malin (INF/P), Talan Harney (SS/P/CF/C), Carson Wallis (INF/P), Evan Scott (INF/P). All of our new guys will add to our pitching rotation and serve to strengthen our defense in the field. Additional newcomers will get their chance for varsity playing time.

Season outlook: We want to continue to build a positive and competitive culture grounded in accountability and consistency. Staying healthy is a big key for us this year. We hope to be more consistent in every phase of the game.

PITTSFIELD

Coach:  Zach Ferguson

Last year’s record: 21-8

Returning starters: Clayton Reinhardt, Draven Puterbaugh, Carter Frazier, Luke Saxe, Tim Hull, Lane Foster

Key losses: Konner Allen, Justin Pennock, Brennan Tomhave

Key newcomers: Bobby Harris and Flint Kirk (Pittsfield is co-oping with Griggsville-Perry this season)

Pitching: All players on the team can pitch, and innings will be determined as we move through the season.

Hitting: Multiple returning starters. Looking for the entire lineup to have a good year. Have multiple guys who can hit at different spots.

Fielding: Very multifaceted team. Defensive alignment will depend on pitching, but very confident in players.

Season outlook: 20-plus wins, compete for a regional championship.

PORTA/A-C CENTRAL/ GREENVIEW

Coach: Brett Leischner

Last year’s record: 21-10

Returning starters: The Bluejays will return Kendall Davis, Barrett Morse, Drew Marr, Levi Hoagland, and Jett Karrick from last year’s starting lineup. Nash Donnan will also return on the bump to build off an outstanding freshman year.

Key losses: The Bluejays will miss Trace Donnan, Brady Kinney, Hunter Roberts, Drew Atwater, and Kashton Parker.

Key newcomers: Junior

Mason Heubner looks to continue the strong catching tradition that was established by Hunter Roberts. Mason was the No. 2 catcher last year, and this year looks to take the primary spot behind the dish.

Junior Brody Landon played a platoon role in the outfield last year as a sophomore. He is looking to use that experience as a springboard into a great junior campaign. Sophomore Kolin Johnson and freshman Tate Karrick are two underclassmen to watch out for. They will be battling for playing time and could both end up being key contributors. Two other underclassmen to keep an eye on entering the season are Dillon Stremsterfer and Ethan Hoagland. Both sophomores look to play their way onto the field and contribute at the varsity level. Another underclassman to watch is Nash Donnan. Donnan, a sophomore, was a standout last year on the mound as a freshman, and eventually worked his way into the conference rotation.

Pitching: The Bluejays will be strong on the bump this year. The team is counting on Kendall Davis, Jett Karick, Nash Donnan, and Levi Hoagland to throw significant innings this year. As long as they stay healthy, pitching will be a huge strength of the Jays this year.

Hitting: Levi Hoagland and Kendall Davis look to

lead the Jays offense this year after standout performances last season. The Bluejays are looking to seniors Drew Marr and Barrett Morse to have strong offensive years as well. The lineup should be a mixture of speed and power. The Jays are looking to be a dynamic offense that can score runs in a variety of ways.

Fielding: The middle of the field will look a little different for the Bluejays as they find replacements for catcher Hunter Roberts and center fielder Drew Atwater. Senior Drew Marr will be a jackof-all-trades this spring, and looks to play several innings in center field as well as infield, depending on who is pitching. Mason Heubner has worked hard to step in and fill Roberts’ shoes behind the plate. The staple of the Bluejays defense this year will be the versatility of the lineup. Many players will be multiple-position guys.  Season outlook: The team is looking to build off the success of last year’s group, which was the first Bluejay baseball team to win 20 games in the past 20 years. The Jays play a very tough schedule, and as usual, the Sangamo is stacked with talent this year. If the Jays can stay healthy, they should be competitive this year.

ROUTT

Coach:

Ryan Turner

Last year’s record: 33-8

Returning starters: Seniors Eli Olson (6-0 W/L, 2.00 ERA; .330 BA, 2 HR, 30 RBI, 18 SB), Brock Runyon (3-2 W/L, 2.88 ERA; .500 BA), Jace Lautemann (1-0 W/L, 0.00 ERA, four appearances; .318 BA, 26 RBI, 16 SB);  juniors Brady Turner (6-3 W/L, 2.33 ERA; .369 BA, 43 RBI, 29 BB), Dalton Brown (.299 BA, 32 H, 24 RBI), Talon Thompson (.301 BA, 25 H, 21 RBI). We also bring a junior-heavy class with Samuel Long and Jacob Brown that will help us in the outfield and the mound. Sophomores Anson Butcher, Owen Smith and Cam Fritz, among others, will compete for innings this season.

Key losses: Nolan Turner, Conrad Charpentier, Isaac Long

Key newcomers: Freshmen Kale Reich and Henry Nattier both have potential to make a varsity impact this season. They still have a lot to learn and prove, but I really like the potential in both of them.

Pitching: Brady Turner will draw most of the toughest non-conference games while the three seniors (Eli, Brock and Jace) will throw the majority of our conference games. We have seven different guys who will throw significant innings.

Hitting: We will be similar style as last year. One through

2025 HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL PREVIEWS

nine, we will not have any “free outs.” I foresee Jace, Eli and Brady continuing their power numbers. Talon Thompson, Brock Runyon and Anson Butcher have home run power as well.

Fielding: We will have guys competing all over the place, but Dalton Brown will look to fill the void at shortstop, and Talon Thompson will do the same at the catcher position. The void left by Conrad on the mound will result in everyone else gaining more innings, but Jace Lautemann is my preseason pick to surprise a lot of teams when he’s on the mound.

Season outlook: Our expectations are the same every year, and that is to compete every inning of the season no matter who we are playing -- and we hope that those efforts take us to the state tourney again.

TRIOPIA

Coach: Rich Thompson

Last year’s record: 11-18

Returning starters: Brock York, senior, CF/P (.277 BA, 8 RBI, 13 SB, 27 R; 5.93 ERA)

Grant Fricke, junior, SS/P (.310 BA, 11 RBI, 29 R, 23 SB; 1.25 ERA, 6-5 W/L)

Ian Stock, senior, 2B/P (.162 BA, 6 RBI, 8 R)

Cooper Parrish, junior, C/P (.321 BA, 23 RBI, 1 HR)

Jacob Cook, junior, 1B/P (.246 BA, 8 RBI, 6 R)

Sam Miller, sophomore, OF/C/P (.276, 13 RBI, 12 R)

Key losses: Evan Bell, Austin Strubbe and Carter Lakamp

Newcomers:

Sophomore Razon Vega (3B/P); junior Andrew Hobrock (1B/OF); and freshmen Charlie Roegge (C/P/OF), Nate Strubbe (INF/P), Jakob Browning (OF), Ben Meyer (INF/OF), Austin Thurman (INF/P), Carson Nergenah (INF/P), Hunter Ballinger (INF), Kaleb Hogan (OF)

Pitching: Grant Fricke, Brock York and Jacob Cook will be our main starters. Others who may see time on the mound will be Razon Vega, Sam Miller, Charlie Roegge, Ian Stock and Cooper Parrish.

Hitting: The top half of our lineup is back, with York, Miller, Fricke and Parrish. Not sure about the bottom half of our lineup at this time, but hopefully, a year older and stronger will help our lineup this year, and we will see how some of the freshmen develop.

Fielding: Parrish behind the plate, Fricke and Stock at short and second, and York in center will help us be pretty solid up the middle. Hopefully, some

of our other guys develop and step up and handle some of the other positions.

Season outlook: I believe we will be a scrappy team that will have to manufacture some runs at times. We need to be aggressive on the bases and smart at the plate. We also need to throw strikes and keep it simple. Hopefully, this team will grow a lot as the season goes along.

WEST CENTRAL

Coach:

Grant DeWitt (8th season)

Last year’s record: 18-8 (regional champions)

Returning starters: We have several returning starters back from last year’s team, a team that has won back-toback regional championships.

Carson Brown (senior) — Carson is coming into this season as a four-year starter for the baseball team. We are looking for him to command the first base position and hit in the middle of the lineup. He has a great baseball IQ and will be a leader for this year’s team.

Dalton Hutton (senior) —

Dalton is another four-year starter who has continued to develop into one of the top arms in the area. Dalton will be returning as the Cougars’ No. 1 pitcher. He was sidelined from pitching midway through the season last year but after some good news from doctors,

and rest, we look for him to have a strong senior season.

Cameron Sievers (senior) — Another senior with a lot of experience on the baseball field. Cameron is going to be a top three pitcher again this year. After a strong junior season, we look for big things from Cameron both on the mound and at the plate.

Landyn Woods (senior) — Landyn is another part of this senior group that has been instrumental in making Cougar baseball relevant again. Landyn will be a key piece to the success we have this year. He will more than likely anchor the shortstop position and hit in the middle of the lineup. With his experience, we hope to get some quality innings from the mound, too.

Caden Meyer (senior) — Caden is the last senior of this group of five that has played baseball for all four years of high school. We are looking for big things from Caden this year, building off a strong junior season. Caden is expected to take over the catching duties this year and hit in the middle of the lineup. Hopefully a growth spurt, additional strength, and experience will help him become the anchor in the lineup.

Anthony Hance (sophomore) — Anthony had a great year as a freshman on the mound for us last year. He

stepped into the No. 2 pitching spot when Dalton went down for the season. We hope that a year of growth will help his development into a strong pitcher. Anthony struggled a bit at the plate last year but has worked hard in the offseason on his hitting. When not pitching, I foresee him playing a utility role for the defense.

Tucker Arnold (sophomore) — Tucker is another guy who found himself on the field as a freshman. Struggled at times, but also excelled in big moments to help the Cougars. Tucker also will play a utility role for the Cougars this year, playing catcher, infield and outfield. Looking for his offseason work to translate at the plate this year.

Key losses: Mason Berry — Mason was a four-year starter at the catcher position and was our leadoff hitter the past two years. It is going to be hard to replace his experience and his ability to control the pitching staff on his own.

Key newcomers: Freshman Hayden Johns — Hayden is a freshman who will come into the program looking for opportunities to play. Has some pop in his bat as a freshman, but his greatest strength this upcoming year may be his ability to step on the mound with a live arm.

Cooper Eddinger (freshman) — Cooper is another freshman who will

be fighting for playing time. He has the ability to play any positions as well as log some innings on the mound. We are hoping that a recent growth spurt will help him develop additional velocity on his fastball.

Ben Bangert (freshman) — Ben is another freshman who will be working toward innings on the varsity squad. We will work hard to develop confidence in Ben to get innings on the mound as the only lefty on the Cougar squad.

Pitching: Our three top arms from last season all return this year.

Dalton Hutton — Hutton will return for his senior season looking to lead the team again on the mound as our ace. Dalton was sidelined for the second half of his junior year with some arm discomfort. After good news from doctors, and rest, we look for him to have a strong senior year. In his junior year Dalton went 5-1 with a 0.22 ERA while striking out 64 batters.

Cameron Sievers — Cameron is set to have a big senior season, commanding our No. 2 pitcher spot. Cameron has continued to work hard in the off-season in the weight room. As a junior, Cam went 5-3 with a 2.60 ERA.

Anthony Hance — Anthony had a huge season on the

Good Luck, Teams!

2025 HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL PREVIEWS

mound as a freshman last year, going 4-0 with a 2.33 ERA. He threw a complete game in the regional championship and was effective due to his ability to throw strikes in pressure situations. We look for big things out of Anthony during his sophomore campaign.

Other pitchers: Caden Meyer — Caden will be looked upon to pitch at times throughout this season. Last year Caden stepped up and logged some quality innings for the Cougars.

Landyn Woods — Landyn

will be looked at to throw some big innings during his senior season. Coming off a junior year in which he did not pitch much — only 16 innings — we will look for Landyn to come into key bullpen situations to use his experience to get hitters out.

Freshmen Hayden Johns, Cooper Eddings and Ben Bangert — A trio of incoming freshmen will look to find time on the mound this upcoming season for the Cougars. Coming into high school this year, we are looking for

each of these three to have a big impact on the mound. They each have had quality junior high years where they were leaned on heavily. Each has tremendous upside, and hopefully they can learn throughout the course of the season from some of the veteran guys.

With several games in a short period of time, and the IHSA pitch-count rules, all members of the pitching staff will be crucial in having a successful season.

Hitting: Offensively, we are

looking to be aggressive at the plate and running the bases. We have several returning starters that have tons of experience at the plate.

Carson Brown — .400 avg. and .495 OBP; recorded 30 hits, 14 doubles, 6 home runs, 28 RBIs and 37 runs.

Dalton Hutton — .390 avg. and .455 OBP; recorded 23 hits, 6 doubles, 2 home runs, 16 RBIs and 22 runs. Dalton will more than likely be the team’s leadoff hitter this season.

Landyn Woods — .362 avg.

and .436 OBP; recorded 25 hits, 9 doubles, 2 home runs, 27 RBIs and 16 runs.

Cameron Sievers — .333 avg. and .398 OBP; recorded 28 hits, with 7 doubles, and 29 runs scored.

Caden Meyer — .324 avg. and .440 OBP; recorded 24 hits, 5 doubles, 3 home runs. 24 RBIs and 14 runs.

Fielding: Fielding has several spots that should be accounted for, but we are still working a few things out to see what fits best for this year’s team. We have several players

who can play many different positions, and a lot of lineups will be determined based on who is the starting pitcher for that day.

Season outlook: Have high expectations for this group as we have several key players returning. We will look to build off our 18-8 record from last year. This group has set some big goals after the last couple years’ success and postseason runs. It should be a fun season with a large senior class that has lots of experience.

BEARDSTOWN

Coach:

Kait Dodson

Last year’s record: 8-21

Returning starters: Shelby

Goodrich (P), Bella Palmer (1B), Vanessa Nunez (SS), Autumn Bowman (OF), Kylynn Maltby (C), Cami Coats (3B)

Key losses: No losses — all players are returning.

Key newcomers: Khloe Kearns, freshman, P — Khloe is going to bring a lot to our team. She is a great, consistent pitcher and is able to put the bat on the ball in most situations.

Ava Quigley, freshman, P/INF — Ava is going to bring speed and knowledge to our team.

Pitching: We have a few pitchers this year who will contribute. Shelby Goodrich is our ace, returning for her senior year. Vanessa Nunez and Lauren Coats are two pitchers we did not use a whole lot last year, but when we needed them, they were able to throw strikes for us. We will utilize them as much as we need to.

Khloe Kearns and Ava Quigley also will see a handful of games in the circle and will help us tremendously.

Hitting overview: We have a handful of girls who can put the ball in play consistently. Shelby Goodrich, Bella Palmer, and Vanessa Nunez are three of our seniors who will show power at the plate. Kylynn Maltby, Lauren Coats and Khloe Kearns also will

prove to be power hitters. Cami Coats and Ava Quigley will use their speed to get on base.

Fielding: We have a group of girls who are able to play multiple positions. We will work different lineups throughout the season to see what works best. Vanessa Nunez will lead the infield at shortstop with her knowledge and quickness.

Season outlook: I am hoping for great things this season. We have talented seniors leading the way and a couple of newcomers who will be major assets in winning ball games.

BROWN COUNTY

Coach:

David Woodruff

Last year’s record: 0-19

Returning players: Sophomore Jamie Loehr (SS) — She hit .480 last spring and will be my starting shortstop.

Ranessa Wort (2B) – She hit .310 last year and will primarily be my second baseman.

Also returning are Joie and Lilly Ham, Riley Buss, Emerson Scott and Elizabeth Christiansen.

Rounding out the roster will be Mary Frank, freshman Nena Boylen (who will probably be my catcher) and Taylor Craven.

Pitching: Joie Ham and Riley Buss will be the primary pitchers for the Hornets this season. Hopefully, we can work another person or two into the circle and try to throw more strikes this season.

Season outlook: Brown County goes into the season with only 10 players. This will be another building year for the program.

CARROLLTON

Coach:

Travis Klingler (8th year)

Last year’s record: 34-3

Returning starters: Lauren Flowers, senior (.509 batting average, 16 HR, 52 RBI, 56 runs scored, 37 stolen bases)  — She was one of our main pitchers last year, going 19-0 with 177 strikeouts across 110 innings. She had an ERA of .764. She will also be our shortstop when not

pitching. She led our team in most offensive categories.

Hannah Uhles, senior (.423 batting average, 8 HR, 10 2B, 33 RBI, 38 R) — She will also be one of our main pitchers. She was 14-3 last season with 119 Ks across 92 innings, and an ERA of 1.28. She will also be one of our top hitters.

Daci Walls, senior (.382 batting average, 5 HR, 33 RBI) — She will get the majority of starts at catcher. She returns from a very good All-State level season.

Vanna Holmes (senior) — She was a very solid/consistent hitter in our lineup, usually in the five spot during her junior year. She hit .404 with 4 HR, 9 2B, 25 RBI.

Megan Camden (senior) — She will handle first base. She hit

2025 HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL PREVIEWS

.282 in her junior year with an OBP of .415, thanks to 15 walks. She contributed 3 HR to go along with 28 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

Hannah Lake (junior) — She will compete for an outfield spot. In 58 at-bats last year, she hit .241 with an OBP of .400.

Hayden McMurtrie (sophomore) — She will primarily play middle infield, depending on who is pitching. As a freshman, she hit .417 with 5 HR, 29 RBI, 48 R and 22 SB.

Brookelyn Eilerman (sophomore) — She will be in the mix for a corner infield spot, as well as outfield. In her freshman season, she hit .274 with an OBP of .392, 4 HR, 20 RBI and 27 R.

Courtney Waldhauser (sophomore) — As a freshman, in 49 at-bats she hit .327 with 9 RBIs and 22 runs scored. She will compete for an outfield spot as well.

Key losses: We lose one senior from last year’s team in outfielder Halle Webb.

Key newcomers: We have returning sophomore Kaylee Day and freshman Blake Driskill, who will compete for spots in the outfield and infield.

Pitching: Lauren Flowers and Hannah Uhles will get the bulk of varsity innings. We will mix and match these two during the year. Keeping our arms fresh for the postseason will be key this year. Brooklyn Eilerman and Courtney Waldhauser can also

be competitive in the circle.

Hitting: The team will be led by the returning players, with a strong senior class. We have a lot of experience coming back from a team that went 34-3. The experience that many of our players gained last year will hopefully make an impact/ improvement on this upcoming season. There should be a good mix of speed and power.

Fielding: We have many girls who can play multiple positions, and that will be a factor as the pitching staff rounds into form.

Season outlook: We expect to contend for the WIVC championship as well as make an extended postseason run. We want to build off our super-sectional appearance last year, where we lost to eventual second-place finisher Illini Bluffs. While we have only 11 girls, this team is full of talent and potential if they can continue to learn and grow during practice times and games.

GREENFIELDNORTHWESTERN Coach:

Last year’s record: 10-19. The Lady Tigers qualified to play in the WIVC Softball Tournament for the first time since it began.

Returning players for the Greenfield-Northwestern Lady Tigers are seniors Evie White, Kylie Cox, Kylee Campbell

and Lillee Springman; juniors Annabeth Thornton and Jillian McAdams; and sophomores Laniey Frank, Karissa Ruyle, Jaylynn Pitchford, Casey Bushue and Kalynn Weller.

New to the team this year are sophomore Alanna Trosley, and freshmen Elizabeth Wright, Khloe Williams, Kinze Pitchford, Tinley Albrecht and Jordan Whitford.

We have everyone returning from our starting lineup from last season. So, no losses for these GNW Lady Tigers.

Key newcomers for the Greenfield-Northwestern Lady Tigers will be freshmen Tinley Albrecht and Kinze Pitchford. Look for Tinley to step into the circle and contribute to the GNW pitching staff in a huge way. Kinze will be a key factor at the plate for the GNW Lady Tigers. Those players bring lots of experience to this already experienced team.

Pitching: The pitching staff will be young again this season. Senior Evie White will have some back-up to take some of the pressure off of her. New to the staff is freshman Tinley Albrecht. With time and experience under her belt, Jaylynn Pitchford will help this pitching staff as well.

Kalynn Weller and Lainey Frank also will be major contributors to our pitching staff.  The Lady Tigers have a wealth of experience with assistant coach Maddie Gillingham, who will be the leader all our pitchers can

look to.

Hitting: The Lady Tigers’ goal this year is to bat with confidence, and this team should be able to do that. To top our lineup we return Jillian McAdams, a great power hitter, and Annabeth Thornton, a major contributor with speed and hitting. Lainey Frank put up some big numbers for us last year, and will look to do it again.

Kalynn Weller returns in the four spot. Many other players will contribute at the plate as well.

Season outlook: The key factors for this GreenfieldNorthwestern Lady Tigers softball team will be focusing on the fundamentals of softball, teamwork, working hard, and building the program. The Lady Tigers will be contenders in each game played this season. The Lady Tigers will come to each game to compete and leave it all on the field.  The focus of the coaching staff and team will be learning for each competition, and recognizing what worked and what didn’t work. That is what it will take to be contenders and to build a program.

The returning coaching staff for the GreenfieldNorthwestern Lady Tigers are head coach Krisse Pitchford, and assistant coaches Maddie Gillingham and Joe Thornton. The Greenfield-Northwestern Lady Tigers are coming into this season with focus, determination, knowledge and fight to build this team into a

successful program.

GRIGGSVILLEPERRY

Coach: Jon VanWinkle

Last year’s record: 3-14

Returning seniors: Mariska Sheurman (catcher) returns as a four-year starter behind the plate. Mariska provides great leadership and energy to the team. She had a .993 fielding percentage last year. She has worked hard in the off-season to improve her hitting and overall strength, which will show dividends this season.

Aislee Wainman (pitcher, utility) returns as a four-year starter. Aislee provided us some great innings on the mound this past season. She also strengthened our infield by playing second and third base. Aislee is our more vocal leader and is able to provide the right encouragement at the right times to motivate our squad.

Jillian Orr (first base) returns as a four-year starter. Jill is our silent leader who is always providing encouragement on and off the field. Jill continues to seek out opportunities to improve her game, both offensively and defensively.

Other returning players: Josie Bradshaw (shortstop, pitcher) returns as a three-year starter. Josie is our strongest defensive asset. She is always a threat at the

plate to hit for power, and other teams know this. Josie helped us out this past year in the circle. We will be asking her to do more of that this season. Josie was named to the Pike County AllConference Team last year, and was very deserving.

Ashtyn Wainman (pitcher, second base) returns as a twoyear starter. Ashtyn carried most of our pitching innings this past season. We will again be leaning heavily on her arm to get us through our long season. Ashtyn maintains such a positive attitude, and is always willing to step up when we need her. Her hitting is improving, and she will be a true threat at the plate.

Newcomers: Ellorie Lambeth (center field) returns after time away from the program. As a junior, she will be a great asset to our outfield. She loves roaming center field looking for an opportunity to make that next great play. Ellorie has always been strong at the plate, and we hope that she will get back to hitting form early in the season.

Claire Bennett (catcher, utility) comes in as a freshman. Claire showed a lot of athleticism and potential at the junior high level. With Mariska Sheurman graduating, we will be asking Claire to step up and learn the catching position. Claire is showing promise with her hitting, and we are excited to see her in game situations.

Season outlook: Our mission this year is to focus on

two things: respect and pride. The Griggsville-Perry softball program has historically been a prominent program in this area. It is time for us to get back to that level of play. This is going to require our team to emphasize pride in the program, our school and our community. We are going to have to start earning back our opponents’ respect through hard work, hustle and intensity. I have challenged these athletes to rise to the occasion and set a foundation for future G-P softball players. I truly believe that they are up to the task.

JACKSONVILLE Coach: Kelly Brockhouse

Last year’s record: 10-17

Key losses: MacKenzie Gerard and Addy Blimling

Key newcomers: Maci Moore (freshman shortstop). Maci will be a great addition to the team. She will be competing for a starting infield position at the varsity level.

Hayle Force, who sat out last year due to injury, returns this season as our captain. She will add some depth at catcher and in the outfield.

Pitching: Kenzie Law will be our ace this year. She started as our number two as a freshman last year and worked her way to number one in the rotation about a third of the way into the season.

Nevaeh Matthews will be our number two pitcher as a junior. She made great strides last year with her control, and will eat up some varsity innings this year.

Hitting: Maggie Gerard, coRookie of the Year from 2024, batted .368 last year and will be our top hitter. She will bat in one of the top three spots.

Other returning starters who will have a big impact at the plate are Chase Neice, Jocelyn Smock, Alyvia Woods, Nevaeh Matthews, and Kenzie Law.

Fielding: Alyvia Woods is going to be our leader in the outfield, in center field. Jocelyn Smock is also a returning varsity starter and will be a mainstay in left field. Senior captain Hayle Force will spend some time in right field and behind the plate. Chase Neice will be our starting catcher but also will get some innings at first and second. Our infield is going to be really young, with sophomore returning starter Maggie Gerard at third. Freshman Maci Moore, and sophomores Emily Brewer, Jera Wardell, Kayling Jones, and Sydney Vedder will all be competing for spots in the infield, too.

Season outlook: Last year we recorded the most wins since I started as head coach, and we’re hoping to reach double-digit wins again this year. We are really young, with no returning starters who are seniors, and only two junior returning

2025 HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL PREVIEWS

starters. Our strong suit is our pitching. We really need to work on small ball, advancing runners and timely hitting to win games — and not let our inexperience on defense get the best of us. I am looking forward to another great year and improving on our record from last year.

NEW BERLINFRANKLINWAVERLY

Coach: Lauren Hemmerle

Last year’s record: 5-20

Returning starters: Halle Bandy (senior) — Returning catcher and outfielder (highest fielding percentage of .976). Halle is a consistent player. She always shows up, and has stepped up to a leadership role in open gyms this year. Like last year, she will probably spend some time behind the plate this season, but she will be seen in the outfield as well.

Carlie Smith (senior, 3B) — Carlie has a strong bat and will use her great knowledge of the game on the field. She is a strong player offensively and defensively, and that will help the team out this year.

Autumn Green (senior, 2B/ RF/P)

Caitlyn Harney (junior, RF)

leader and is always cheering on her teammates. Her pitching is looking promising as we warm up for the season, but even better is her infield work.

Key losses: Marissa Heironimus (starting 1B, leader in hits, batting average and onbase percentage); Ashlee Brown (starting SS, home run leader and second in runs scored)

Key newcomers: Addy Hopkins (freshman, P) — Addy has shown a strong commitment to pitching and improving at each practice. Addy is consistent with hitting her spots and has a solid change-up. I am looking forward to getting her some pitching innings.

Maycee Shoemaker (freshman, C) — Maycee’s hard work and dedication show through with every practice. She is super coachable and adjusts well to each pitcher.

Mayci Davis (freshman, 1B) — Mayci has a strong bat, and that is what we are most excited to see out of her this year.

Peyton Smith (freshman, C/1B) — Peyton is super coachable, and is committed to getting better. She shows up, asks questions and does whatever is necessary to improve.

Riley Holloway (junior, SS/ CF/P) — .368 batting average, 12 stolen bases, .962 fielding percentage. Riley is a strong player all-around. She is a good contact hitter and also slaps. She can play several positions around the field.

Avery Blackorby (sophomore, P/LF) — Avery is a strong overall player. She will likely get some more pitching innings this year, as she had last year’s lowest ERA.

Skylar Green (sophomore, 2B) — Skylar brings awesome energy to the field. She is a natural

Pitching: Our ace is still TBD — this is a decision that will be made the first couple weeks of practice. We have many returning pitchers and a few new ones to scope out. In open gyms, Addy, Avery and Riley have been pitching well. Addy is coming in as a freshman and has been working hard to perfect her pitches. Avery is a returning pitcher who had last year’s lowest ERA. Riley is another returning pitcher who has shown significant improvement in the off-season. She’s coming back with more power and control.

Pitching staff: Addy Hopkins (freshman), Avery Blackorby (sophomore), Skylar Green

(sophomore), Zoey Morris (sophomore), Riley Holloway (junior), Autumn Green (senior), Brennah Tipsword (senior)

Hitting: Leading hitters could include Carlie Smith, who tied for most hits last year with 14; Riley Holloway, a contact and slap hitter who led the team in runs scored last year; and Mayci Davis, a freshman who has shown strong power hitting potential.

While we don’t have many power hitters, we are building a lineup of contact hitters. We have two slap hitters. Mixing that with other solid batters will help us piece together runs throughout games.

Fielding: Since we have a new coaching staff, all spots are up for grabs. We want to rework some of last year’s starters to try something new. We are looking at keeping Carlie Smith at third and focusing Halle Bandy’s time in the outfield. This leaves a catching spot open for our two new catchers, Maycee Shoemaker and Peyton Smith, to work toward. Riley Holloway will likely be seen in a few positions in the field, depending on the day’s lineup. We are hoping to move some of our outfielders to the infield, namely Avery Blackorby and Caitlyn Harney. Our first base spot is still up for grabs. Returning pitcher Taylor Staub is taking a break from the circle, and we hope to see her step up in a different role. Skylar Green also will be seen in a few

spots throughout the defense, depending on the day.

Season outlook: Our team has a whole new coaching staff that is excited for our first season with the girls! Open gyms have shown a lot of hard work and potential!

NORTH GREENE

Coach: Nathan Roberts

Last year’s record: 4-17

Returning players: Brandy Davidson (P/3B) — Brandy moved back to the infield and took over at third when we were struggling to fill a hole. She was fearless at the hot corner and helped out on D a lot!

Chelsey Castleberry (P/ IF) — Chelsey returned for her sophomore season, back in the circle after missing a whole year due to injury. She got stronger in the circle as the season went along, and her bat was a consistent threat at the plate

Larissa Heberling (2B) — Larissa moved around the field last year, filling in wherever needed. She also moved around the batting order to help with some consistency at the plate.

Jaycee Arnold (SS/OF) — Jaycee is our speedster on and off the bases. She patrolled center field for us most of last year until she moved to shortstop to shuffle things around. There wasn’t a fly ball hit that she didn’t catch or

at least come close to running down in the gaps.

Madilyn Wahl (OF) — Madi was a big surprise for us last year in the outfield. She played both corners and handled them very well. The experience was a big plus, and I could see big things coming from her defensively this year.

Kaydence Ford (OF) — Kaydence came out of nowhere to help solidify the outfield last year. She really came into her own and proved that right field was hers to fill. We expect more growth from her this year.

Season outlook: We graduated two players off the team last year. One was a leader with the bat for sure in Carlee Speaker. We should be defensively sound, with pitching that will keep us in games, giving our D a chance to make some plays. We should be a scrappy team with some team speed to put pressure on opponents this year. We will have some maturity in the circle. Brandy Davidson and Chelsey Castleberry both saw a lot of time there last year, and both learned a lot. We have an incoming freshman in Alivia Beams who could also see some time in the circle to give the other two a break. Hitting-wise, we have some ladies with some pop in their bats, but we will look to be gap hitters and move runners around.

Last year’s record: 17-8

Returning starters: Grace Henry C/3B, Lila Simon P/INF, Taylor Peebles OF/3B, Torie Stambaugh INF, Kenley Gerard OF/2B, Emma Wombles P/INF/ OF

Key losses: We graduated three seniors who held different positions and roles on the team. One of those was our leadoff hitter and center fielder Rebecca Neupauer.

Key newcomers: Presley Brown, junior, returns to the program, and we look forward to getting her in the mix as a contributor to our team. We

are still reaping the benefits of our junior high program and the impact it is having on the high school program. We are excited to have a talented group of incoming freshmen — Paige Willman, Kinlee Griggs and Piper Chaplin — with a variety of skill sets. All three of those ladies were contributors in our junior high program, and we hope to see them take the next step and contribute to Saukee softball.

Pitching: We have Emma Wombles and Emma Henry returning with varsity pitching experience. We expect the returning pitchers to show some leadership qualities to our defense, and look forward to watching them grow into a versatile but effective pitching staff.

Hitting: We have concentrated more time on our offense the past few years, and we have a diverse group of ladies who can hit for power and contact, and execute the short game when needed.

Fielding: We expect our defense to be one of our stronger points as we are returning several players with varsity experience.

Season outlook: Overall, we are returning a good portion of our team from last season. We are looking forward to adding our newcomers into the mix and creating a program that benefits our players on and off the field. Some of our goals include creating a stronger team

environment, having more wins than losses, and to always have a positive outlook after games and practices.

PORTA/A-C CENTRAL

Coach: Jess Cameron

Last year’s record: 12-11 (1-7 Sangamo)

Returning starters: Morgan Miller (senior) 3B, Aubrey Vogel (junior) SS, Kylie Tiemeyer (junior) 1B, Bailey Dahmer (junior) OF

Key losses: Gabbie Branson, our senior pitcher, and Karlie Hoke one of our outfielders.

Key newcomers: We have a large number of freshmen this season. Regan Heubner is a catcher but can be utilized in many spots on the field when needed. Kenzie Miller and Cora Murphy, both freshmen, will be in the circle a lot this season.

Pitching: Kenzie Miller and Cora Murphy, both freshmen, will be our pitchers this season. They bring lots of excitement and enthusiasm to the team.

Hitting: Morgan Miller, Kylie Teimeyer and Aubrey Vogel had very strong bats last season and will continue to lead our team at the plate.

Fielding: Aubrey Vogel will be a very strong asset to the team this year. She will be returning as a starting shortstop and will have a leadership role throughout

2025 HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL PREVIEWS

our defense. Bailey Dahmer is another strong asset on defense. She will likely be a leader in our outfield this year.

Season outlook: We have a lot of young players this year. While this may be challenging at times, I believe this season will prepare us and get us ready for seasons to come.

ROUTT

Coach: Adam Haas

Last year’s record: 1-19

Returning players: Kate Cosgriff, senior, P/OF Faith Beddingfield, senior, OF Grace Cleveland, junior, INF

Madi Maro, sophomore, P/ INF

Madelyn Coats, senior, OF Meaghan Marshall, junior, INF/OF

Olivia Horabik, sophomore, C/INF

Newcomers: This year we have a good number of younger girls coming in, ready to pitch in.

Pitching: Kate Cosgriff and Madi Maro will be doing the pitching.

Hitting: Faith Beddingfield, Grace Cleveland and Madi Maro were our leading hitters last year. We have several on the roster who will contribute and get on base.

Fielding: We have everyone coming back, and we have some

new additions to help fill in some spots. We have a good mix of girls who can play multiple positions.

Season outlook: Our numbers are low, but expectations are high as we look to improve on last year. With the small group, everyone will have a chance to contribute.

TRIOPIA

Coach:  Ty Gebhardt

Last year’s record: 14-9

Returning starters: Mylee

Tracy, junior, P (.394 AVG, .511 OBP, 28 H, 32 RBI, 17 SB; 14-9 pitching record, 134 IP, 214 K, 64 BB, 2.64 ERA) — Mylee pitched every inning for us last year, as well as being our leadoff hitter.

Addison Rohn, senior, C (.507 AVG, .571 OBP, 36 H, 2 HR, 7 2B, 29 RBI, 9 SB) — Addison is the anchor behind the plate, and led the team with a .507 batting average hitting third in the lineup. We can always count on Addison to get a hit when we need one.

Lucie Dion, junior, SS (.397 AVG, .494 OBP, 27 H, 4 HR, 7 2B, 26 RBI, 11 SB) — Lucie brings energy and vocal leadership to the field. She is a strong shortstop and brings power to the plate.

Raye Greenstreet, senior, 3B (.286 AVG, .403 OBP, 18 H, 2 HR, 2 2B, 15 RBI, 7 SB) — Raye has a good glove at third and

provides power at the plate for us. Raye broke the school record for career home runs last year.

Lindy Parlier, senior, OF (.300 AVG, .462 OBP, 18 H, 3 2B, 11 RBI, 11 SB) — Lindy covered a lot of the outfield for us, with quickness at the top of the order.

Gabby Myers, junior, 1B (.250 AVG, .311 OBP, 17 H, 1 HR, 4 2B, 23 RBI) — Gabby was a strong glove at first, and could be counted on to get a hit when we needed one in the bottom half of the lineup.

Sophya Ogden, junior, 2B (.302 AVG, .422 OBP, 16 H, 1 HR, 2 2B, 4 RBI, 1 SB) — Sophya worked hard at second and made some big plays. She batted ninth to get on for the top of the order.

Key losses: Brooke Beck, Rhianna Lovekamp, Rilyn Waid

Key newcomers: There’s a lot to be excited about in this freshman class. They all play travel softball year-round and love the game.

Addilynn Tracy, freshman, P/UTIL — She has played a lot of softball and will bring pitching help, as well as making us stronger defensively. She has a good bat that can help us score more runs.

Mia McCombs, freshman, OF — Bats from the left side with power, and brings extra speed to our team. She can cover a lot of ground in the outfield.

Kenzie Meyer, freshman, UTIL/P — Kenzie is a hustler and will be able to find a way to

get on base and be a strong glove on the field.

Mallory Rohn, freshman, INF/1B — Mallory will help us with both her defense and bat.

Maggie Parlier, sophomore, OF — Maggie found her way into the starting lineup late last year and will help out in the outfield when needed.

Pitching: Mylee Tracy threw every single pitch for us last year and will be our go-to again this year. Her sister, Addilynn, will be a much-needed addition to help lighten the load and give Mylee some time off to rest. Both Tracy girls pitch year-round and work hard to throw hard and spin the ball to keep hitters off-balance. Kenzie Meyer will help out with our staff and be able to throw some innings in relief.

Hitting: We have a hardhitting team that will find ways to get on base and score. We look to be strong in every spot in the lineup. We have power, speed, great contact hitters, and players who can put down a bunt or slap hit to cause havoc when needed. The hitters we have returning had a collective batting average of .358. I look for us to be even stronger and faster at the plate with the newcomers added into our lineup.

Fielding: We work on fundamentals every day in practice. All of our girls bring experience, whether it be from high school or travel ball, that will continue to be an advantage for us. With our pitcher, catcher

and infield all returning, and with some speed in the outfield, I look for us to be better this year. There could be some shifting of players, but we have strong gloves and speed that will be an asset to the success of this team.

Season outlook: I look for this to be a very strong season for the Lady Trojans. We are a great mix of experience and youth, and every girl on the team will find a way to contribute to the success. We have added some teams to our schedule to continue to challenge our hitting, fielding and pitching. We have strong players in every position on defense and in the batting lineup. I think the young girls on this team will bring fire and energy to add to some strong leaders. I hope for this group of girls to be a fun group to watch!

Returning: Brylee Lawson, senior, CF — .355 batting average last year, and a solid glove in the outfield.

Zella Walker, 3B

Elaine Sprague, 2B

Key newcomers: Kylie Clayton, senior, 1B. Kylie didn’t play last year, but I’m excited to see what this year brings for her.

Maci Peterson, freshman, C/ OF/SS

Jerzi Clark, freshman, OF — great bat.

Paisley Sturtevant, freshman OF — great bat.

Pitching: Hallee Lawson is our only pitcher, so she will carry the team for the year.

Hitting: Brylee Lawson will be a key offensive player. I have high hopes for freshman Jerzi Clark at the plate as well.

Fielding: We have only nine girls signed up, and we lost some key defensive spots last year. Fox left a hole at shortstop, and Peterson in the outfield.

Freshmen Sturtevant, Clark and Maci Peterson are quick and do great in the outfield. We’re still figuring out our shortstop position.

Season outlook: With only nine girls, the season will tough. However, these girls bring a lot of life and fun to the program. They have great attitudes, and very rarely do I see them get frustrated. This is a great/fun group of girls, and I’m excited for the season.
