Attractions: Dahlia Hill
Dahlia Hill Society of Midland plants 3,000 tubers annually with over 300 unique varieties, at the corner of Main Street and Orchard Road.
It has long been an established destination for learning how to grow dahlias, taking photographs, resting from nearby rail trail activities, meeting with others, and enjoying the benefits of a nature setting.
The terraced garden is maintained by a community of volunteers beginning each June. During the blooming months of late summer through the first frost of October, the garden’s tapestry of color is open to the public free of charge, seven days a week from dawn to dusk. The garden was started in 1992
with tubers donated by Charles Breed and planted on land provided by Bill Fisher. In 1998, Dahlia Hill Society of Midland was established as a nonprofit to maintain and preserve this unique garden. Every growing season, Dahlia Hill’s tubers multiply, providing additional tubers to be sold each May.
Two buildings adjacent to Dahlia Hill’s garden house the art of Breed, who was a longtime Midland resident and artist. His art is also found amongst the dahlias, which includes four large cast aluminum sculptures representing the seasons of the year.
Dahlia Hill Society recently launched a new website at http://dahliahill.org/ dahliahill.org. A unique feature entitled
the “Dahlia Finder” provides gardeners a wealth of information about numerous varieties. The website also contains information about growing dahlias and the benefits of nature on overall health and well-being.
Dahlia Hill Society is also expanding partnerships with other agencies in Midland and beyond. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, art experiences, activities for youth and homeschoolers, and other Dahlia Hill events, follow on Facebook and Instagram. For additional information, call 989-631-0100 or email mailto:dahlia.hill.society@gmail.com dahlia.hill.society@gmail.com

The mission of the West Midland Family Center (WMFC) is to enhance the quality of life for each generation by providing growth and achievement opportunities within a caring environment.
WMFC programming revolves around the family. With a goal of strengthening the family unit and reducing stress, it aims to help each family member live their best life. By providing outlets for parents, children, and families, WMFC positively impacts the entire community.
Offering a number of human services, WMFC understands the struggles of a family can be felt among each member. Whether the need is for childcare (including before and after school care), food assistance, parenting classes, or clothing and goods assistance, WMFC is here to help.
It also coordinates with a number of other Midland County agencies in order to support the needs of the
whole community. WMFC is also the home of the Greendale Happy Diners (a congregate meal site program), sponsored by Senior Services of Midland County. They provide lunch on-site Monday through Friday, as well as Meals-on-Wheels five days a week to home-bound seniors, as well as many other activities.

College Opportunity Program mentors local high school students to be prepared in their pursuit of higher education, and helps them learn leadership, teamwork, and communication skills to succeed in school and the workforce.
Parent education classes can help parents learn better ways to manage their families and develop stronger bonds among all family members. WMFC also offers a summer program for children that is both educational and fun for each age group.
