Describe a day on the job for you. Typical day would start with checking on my census, making sure all my patients get all the core measures/orders they need for Stroke. Rounding with patient, nursing, management, physician. Responding to Code Stroke if there is any. Following up on any issues or concerns. Working on education plan for staff and community outreach. Unless I have something scheduled to do for the day already. Checking on smaller sites to provide them resources offsite. What is the best thing about working in your industry? Community Health Screening, by doing this outreach we are educating the community members of their risks for stroke as well as how to manage
them with education on managing blood pressure, pulse checks, blood glucose/cholesterol level, nutrition counseling, stroke education. Who are some role models that you look up to? My mother, Marie. She continues to inspire us on the value of not just hard work, but also quality work, and investing in oneself, family, and community. She always kept a positive outlook about work and its influence on personal growth. In terms of role model from history, Florence Nightingale for her efforts to formalize nursing education and leading nurses to improve quality of care and promoting public health and quality bedside nursing care. How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? Discipline, teamwork, and communication is the key. I do my best to keep an organized schedule to allow harmony between work and life. I am grateful to have great teams of people at work and in my personal life to help me when, and where needed. It is important to have the courage to ask for help and communicate effectively when it is needed. What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? My favorite part of working in the Midland area is serving the community I belong and being able to give back by providing some needed health education and resources.

Describe a day on the job for you. Being an entrepreneur in the world of real estate, none of my days are the same. That is one of the reasons I love my job. Typically I find myself responding to emails first thing in the morning. After that I will usually visit all of our active rehab projects to ensure they are on track to meet our goals. The middle of my days consist of in-person meetings and phone calls. In the afternoons I will go to whichever project is in need of additional hands and get my hands dirty on whatever may be behind. My nights and evenings are back at the office doing desk work or networking to nurture and build relationships. What is the best thing about work-
ing in your industry? The best thing about working in the real estate industry is being able to provide affordable, well-maintained housing in safe and desirable neighborhoods. Who are some role models that you look up to? My late grandpa, Jeff Grove, is a person I have always looked up to. He was a man that kept to himself, yet did whatever was necessary to get the job done. My father in law, Brad Brushaber, has also been someone I have looked up to as an entrepreneur. Specifically, his ability to take and manage risks. How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? My wife, Anna, is the reason I am able to be as successful as I am. Due to my rigorous schedule, I lean on her a lot and she keeps my life in order. What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? My favorite part about working in the Midland area is all of the kind people I meet and interact with every day.

Describe a day on the job for you: A typical day as an HR Consultant involves a dynamic mix of responsibilities and interactions. Mornings kick off with preparations, reviewing schedules, and addressing urgent tasks. Engaging with clients is a central part of my day, with meetings focusing on HR projects, hiring needs, and strategic guidance. A portion of my day is typically spent conducting interviews, evaluating candidate qualifications, and providing feedback to hiring managers. My attention also goes to policy and procedure reviews, ensuring compliance with current labor laws and industry best practices. Adaptability is so important in my role, with navigating clients’ needs and providing timely and effective solutions.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? One of the most rewarding aspects of working as an HR Consultant is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on both organizations and individuals. The variety of tasks provides a diverse work experience and allows for continuous learning which I enjoy! Who are some role models that you look up to? My bosses, Scott Huntoon and Ali Huntoon, are my role models. They strive to create a workplace where everyone feels valued and can thrive. I appreciate them for providing me guidance in my career, and for their dedication to learning and adapting. They have taught me a lot and I appreciate everything they do for me and our team. How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? I keep a healthy work-life balance by prioritizing time for my own hobbies and personal activities. Engaging in my hobbies and spending time with family and friends is extremely important to ensure a balanced life outside of work. What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? My favorite part about working in Midland is their commitment to local businesses and community development. I enjoy participating in community events organized by the MBA, which provide networking opportunities and contribute to the sense of unity in Midland. Describe a day on the job for you. Every day is different, and I usually never know what my day is going to look like until the night before. It is typically showings, listing appointments but I also spend a substantial amount of time working from home whether it be analyzing listing prices, marketing, problem solving or coordinating inspections and answering questions. What is the best thing about working in your industry? I love helping people accomplish their goals! Who are some role models that you look up to? My number one mentor/role model is Dolores Porte. She is the Village Council President for Sanford. We met
in the wake of the dam failures, and have since become great friends and she has taught me so much about leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. We have accomplished a lot together. I also look up to one of our County Commissioners, Jeanette Snyder. She is one of those women who has such an admirable temperament in stressful situations, and really teaches you to be true to yourself and what you believe in. How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? This is always a struggle in Real Estate, but when I find myself being overwhelmed, I do implement communications boundaries later at night and in early morning. Give myself permission to turn off the phone and get some rest. I also try to reserve Sunday for my day with my family since we can all be off that one day per week. This does not always work out perfectly because I do have to be flexible for other people’s schedules, but it is a good place to start. Slower seasons usually balance out busy seasons also. What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? I genuinely have a passion for this location and community. I know it well, so familiarity certainly is useful in my line of work. I like that I know a lot of people, and if I don’t we usually still have some sort of mutual contact. We have a very nice combination of city, but with great parks and recreation, our townships provide beautiful rural properties and amenities. Midland County offers a lot of things to do, between events and outdoor recreation. I also have to drive a lot so actually, I like our roads here. They are very well maintained as opposed to some other places.

Describe a day on the job for you. I spend some time planning my classes for the day, including the anatomical focus we’ll be spending time on, the theme or yoga tradition/philosophy we’ll be exploring, any poems or readings that are complementary to the theme, and of course the asana (poses) that we will practice to encompass all of it. Then I go to class either in Sanford or Midland and lead my students in yoga. In between classes I work as a freelance virtual technology assistant in the health/wellness field for various clients.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? Sharing the practice of yoga - I started my yoga journey in Midland many years ago and I hope to bring the practice to the area once more. Who are some role models that you look up to? Well-known yoga teachers Jason Crandell, Tiffany Cruikshank, Rachel Land, as well as local business owner Jill Ahearn. How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? Teaching yoga takes a lot of energy, time, education, and hustle so it can be easy to feel overwhelmed or burnt out. I rest when I can and, believe it or not, do yoga! What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? I have been working in the Midland area since I was 18 and really enjoy the sense of community throughout the town. There are a lot of small but important businesses and organizations that deserve recognition and patronage - and I hope to shine at least a little light on the partners I’ve been working with over the past year and a half.

Church, volunteer organizations: I serve as the Head J.V. Softball Coach at H.H Dow High School. In addition to my coaching role, I am actively involved in community initiatives and serve on the MYPros Steering Committee and Young Leaders United Executive Council. My commitment to community service extends to various organizations, with a focus on frequent volunteer work with the Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition and the Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals. It’s through these opportunities that I strive to make a positive impact and contribute to the well-being of our community. Describe a day on the job for you: In my role as an event coordinator for the MBA, a typical day is a mix of tasks aimed at ensuring our events go off without a hitch. I usually start by
checking and responding to emails, making sure all the details are in order. Then, I jump into coordinating committee meetings, ensuring everyone is on the same page about what needs to be done. As the morning progresses, I focus on planning upcoming events, fine-tuning budgets, and keeping everything on track. I often reach out to vendors and sponsors to confirm all the details. During the actual events, I’m on-site, overseeing everything to make sure it runs smoothly, troubleshooting any issues, and sticking to the schedule. After the event, I tie up loose ends, gather feedback, and update our records. Throughout the day, flexibility and effective communication are key. It’s a role where you wear many hats, but it’s all about making sure our MBA events are successful and memorable. What is the best thing about working in your industry? Working in the chamber industry offers several rewarding aspects, but one of the standout elements is the opportunity to actively contribute to the growth and well-being of your local community. In essence, the best thing about working in the chamber industry is the ability to make a meaningful impact on the community while enjoying a diverse and engaging professional experience. Who are some role models that you look up to? At the moment, I don’t have a specific role model. I believe in drawing inspiration from various sources
and learning from a diverse range of experiences. While I haven’t identified a single individual as my role model, I’m continually motivated by the positive qualities and achievements of different people around me. How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? I find great fulfillment in traveling and exploring new places. The diversity of environments and experiences during our travels contributes to a well-rounded and enriching life. For me, it’s not just about the destinations but the journey itself and the memories we create together. These hobbies serve as a rejuvenating counterbalance to the demands of work, allowing me to return with renewed energy and focus. What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? Midland is a vibrant city with a lot to offer. The community is strong, providing ample opportunities for both work and leisure. Describe a day on the job for you. Typically, I am wearing my HR Consultant hat from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., helping small businesses and start-ups with their HR needs. Then after 5 p.m. and on weekends I change into a fitness and yoga instructor, teaching several classes at my studio next door each week! Our fitness studio is super inclusive of all fitness levels and body types, and the best part about my job is watching my clients strengthen their confidence and make new friendships and connections! What is the best thing about working in your industry? The best part is seeing clients thrive! We proudly welcome individuals of all body types and levels, catering to both beginners and seasoned fitness veterans. Our mission extends beyond physical exercise – it’s about rediscovering your
inner drive and reconnecting with your authentic self through mind and body fitness. We understand that movement is not only about enhancing physical health but also a powerful tool to alleviate anxiety and depression. Personally, I experienced a transformative shift when I discovered movement that brought me genuine joy, and I believe exercise should be invigorating, not agonizing. Who are some role models that you look up to? I love all of the amazing woman entrepreneurs in the Great Lakes Bay Region! We all have so much to learn from each other, and I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without their guidance and friendship. How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? I believe mental health is really important – I participate in joyful movement when I can and when I am sensing that burnout is coming, I try to delegate tasks! Having my supportive co-founder and husband, Scott, is a life-saver and he often helps when I’m starting to struggle! What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? Working in the Midland area is like being part of one big, friendly neighborhood. What I love most is the laid-back vibe and the way everyone here feels like a friend you’ve known forever. There’s this fantastic sense of community that you don’t find just anywhere. Describe a day on the job for you. A day at Trapani Communications consists of writing content such as communications strategies, press releases, or flyers; meeting with clients; managing projects by working with third-party vendors and maintaining project deadlines; and trying to keep the number of unread emails in my inbox as low as I can. What is the best thing about working in your industry? The best thing about working in the public relations and communications industry is that I get to learn about so many organizations and other industries. This year alone, I’ve learned about lake level special assessment districts, employment opportunities for people with disabilities though work with the Arnold Center, and the ins and outs of the Greater Midland Community Center, to name a few. It’s fun to help all sorts of organizations share their story with the community.
Who are some role models that you look up to? I look up to many community leaders in Midland – several of whom I’ve been grateful to work with. One of those people is Bev Wenzel, the executive director of The ROCK Center for Youth Development. When Bev asked me to serve on the board several years ago, it was something I had never done before and I doubted I had anything to contribute. She saw strengths in me that I couldn’t see in myself at the time and believed in and encouraged those. Fast forward a few years and my involvement and role in the organization has grown. I’m excited to serve The ROCK as its chairperson starting January 2024. A good role model sees strengths in others. A great role model helps you see them too. Another person I look up to is Terry Moore who is woven into much of the fabric of Midland. His mentorship throughout the years has taught me about effective leadership and generosity. How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? To maintain a healthy work-life balance I keep stress at bay and set personal boundaries for how connected I am to email and my phone. What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? Midland is filled with extremely generous people. One of my favorite things about working in this community is that people want to see each other succeed and will go out of their way to make that happen. In a smaller city, it’s less about competition and more about collaboration. The cherry on top, is that Midland is located within the Great Lakes Bay Region which enables people and organizations to expand their network and connections in unique ways that reach beyond Midland’s boundaries.

Describe a day on the job for you. Depending on the day of the week, it will begin either with hearings in the Midland Courthouse or I will start my day at the office. Once I get to work, if I am not in court, I plan out my day and prepare for any hearings for later that day. If no hearings are scheduled I plan on working on one dedicated larger project and several smaller projects for the day. Specifically, my larger projects are prepara-
tions for jury trials, motion hearings, or briefs that are due. Smaller projects include client contacts and ensuring they are kept up to date on their files. I need to keep flexible hours as I also take court-appointed work for the county and need to be available to step into hearings or be available if the county requires a public defender be present. What is the best thing about working in your industry? The best thing about working in my industry is the numerous clients I get to meet and the individual stories that I get to hear. While certain cases may deal with the same subject matter, every client’s story is different and the facts are always different. It is also a positive to interact with the same associates every day. The clerks, staff, or other employees of the County who I interact with always give a fresh take on various things and can relate to any problems that arise. Who are some role models that you look up to? I look up to all of the big names for attorneys, Thurgood Marshall, Clarence Darrow, etc. The big
names that are known for excellent work product, striving to do the best they can while not necessarily winning every case. How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? I put a large focus on making sure I dedicate a certain amount of time per day to help my wife around the home. Staying on top of the little things at the house helps keep a routine and orderly aspect to my week. Whenever there is a particularly stressful or time-consuming case to work on, making sure I take time to perform small chores around the house helps to slow down my mind. What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? My favorite part of working in Midland is the uniqueness of the area. While it is a smaller town population wise, having such a large corporation headquartered here lets us have more access to a variety of things. The restaurants are always a very high quality and consistent in providing an excellent atmosphere.

I also keep track of a lot of proposed pieces of legislation and regulations. Since my job is to represent, not just Michigan Sugar Company, but also agriculture and farmers, there are a lot of issues that I need to keep track of. From tax policy, to labor and employment law, to energy policy, regulators and legislators are not always thinking about how policies affect farmers. It my job to help educate them. The rest of my day is generally filled with meetings and calls. When we were both working from home during the pandemic, my wife would joke that all I do all day is talk on the phone. To cap things off, I end up going to a lot of events and fundraisers after work hours.

Describe a day on the job for you. One of the best things about my job is that every day is different. I frequently travel to Lansing and Washington, D.C., so I have a lot of early starts. I also represent our company on the boards of many organizations, so beginning my day with an early Zoom meeting isn’t uncommon either.

What is the best thing about working in your industry? I love that every day is a new challenge. Not a lot of positions like mine have as broad a portfolio as I do, representing the company on the federal, state, and local levels. I also enjoy meeting new people. Politics is an inherently relational industry, so you end up getting to know a lot of people with a wide variety of backgrounds. Who are some role models that you look up to? I have always seen Gerald Ford as a great role model for public service. He made decisions that he knew would cost him his career to do what he thought was best for the country. We need more people in public service who value their country over their personal ambition. On a personal level, my father set a great example for how to be a great dad and have a long and
loving marriage. That said, I can never forgive him for passing on to me his sense of humor. How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? I try to keep my work problems at work and any family issues at home. Having to travel quite a bit helps. It gives me a chance to decompress on my way home. Since my wife and I both work, we try to prioritize building memories as a family. We cannot always get the quantity of time together that we would like, so we try to maximize the quality of that time. Having traditions and hobbies that we do as a family is extremely important to us. What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? Being a father of four, I love that it’s safe and that we have quality schools. I genuinely love the people in the Great Lakes Bay Region. A lot of people that I went to high school with would always talk about getting out and moving to other places. I spent five years working in Washington, D.C. after college and from day one I knew I wanted to move back and build my life here. It’s also nice having three connected, but distinct, communities located in close proximity. Between Midland, Bay City, and Saginaw, there is always something to do. For a town this size there is a lot more going on than you would expect. The Great Lakes Bay Invitational and the Dow Tennis Classic are two of my favorite events to attend. I also don’t think people realize how lucky we are to host Broadway shows at the Midland Center for the Arts. These are the same shows and actors that perform in Chicago and Detroit but you can see them in Midland for a third of the price.

Who are some role models that you look up to? Too many to list. I’ve been blessed to have a good family that has deep roots in the construction industry through several generations as well as different trades; both grandfathers, father, father-in-law, and several uncles who have all showed
me hard work, determination, attention to detail and quality go into what it takes to put in a good honest days work. Not to mention other family members, supervisors, foreman and other tradesman I’ve worked for and alongside that have showed me the tricks of the trade. How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? Our job, like many, is very demanding at times, especially nowadays when everyone and everything is so “plugged in” all the time and being reachable seems like a 24/7 commitment. I think having the ability to “check out” and leave the phones, leave the tablets, leave the emails behind helps set healthy boundaries to maintain a good work-life balance. That response can always wait until the morning - especially a Monday morning! What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? My favorite part about working in the Midland area is the small-town feel. Numerous times while out to dinner or attending events in the area it’s very common to run into people you do business with during your normal work day and it’s a good feeling to know those good relationships you keep during business hours not only create good business but turn people into good friends and acquaintances in the small town community as well.

If we’re outside of football season it’s all car sales and giving the best customer service that I can. Now, if it’s football season it’s a lot more than that. Typically, during the season, a workday consists of getting all my Midland Ford duties finished and then I can start game planning for the upcoming week. Planning drills for practice, planning fun activities for the players, all while fielding any calls from parents, other coaches, or any board member of MAYFL. Without the support and help of the other board members we wouldn’t nearly be as successful as we are.

What is the best thing about work in your industry? The best thing about being in auto sales and youth sports is hands down the people. ing up to the wrong type of role models. That caused a little bit of trouble through my youth. It wasn’t until I began at Midland Ford, I found a role model that was worth looking up to. I owe a great deal of appreciation to my boss and friend, Wes Pruden. From being a mentor in the auto industry, helping me navigate the pitfalls of being a young father, and just being there to answer any questions I may have. Describe a day on the job for you. Being a full time realtor, mom and wife is no easy task! A day in the life of a realtor is ever changing. No day is ever the same. Which is part of what I like about my “job.” I have the flexibility to be able to be there for my son’s school events but also have the opportunity to have a flourishing career. Helping clients, friends, or family members through some of the most important parts of their lives is extremely heartwarming and makes up for those bad days of negotiating through low appraisals or writing sometimes 5 or more offers for clients before finally getting an accepted offer. What is the best thing about work in your industry? Closing Day - the day that keys are passed from sellers to new buyers or when your buyer gets the keys to their new home. Seeing all of our hard work payoff and those smiles at the closing table are immeasurable. Who are some role models that you look up to?
I don’t have a specific person I look up to, I try to show up everyday and give it my best. None one is living the life I do, it would be unfair to hold myself to a standard that is not attainable. So many people, in my 35 years of life, have had an influence on the person I aspire to be. We are all still evolving and learning as we go! How do you keep a healthy work-life balance? Truthfully, I’m not sure if that has really happened! This real estate market has been off the charts for the last few years. I truly feel thankful to be as busy as I am and try to find the fun in the process. Which helps with that work/life balance. What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? I love so many aspects of the Midland Co area. Midland offers big city amenities while still having small town, tight knit neighborhoods. Whether you’re shopping at the mall and having dinner at the numerous restaurants in the area, enjoying the summers in the Downtown Commons, catching a Loons baseball game, or being able to let your kiddos ride their bikes to Plymouth Park or better yet in your own cul de sac. The Santa House in Downtown Midland or over in Sanford offers the magic of Christmas to all our kiddos. There is somewhere in Midland County for everyone, and being able to help people find their home in this community is priceless!
