WELCOME TO THE 36TH MIDWEST SALUTE TO THE ARTS
Every summer for the last 36 years, the Midwest Salute to the Arts transforms beautiful Moody Park on Longacre into a vibrant celebration of creativity and art. This year’s event from August 23rd-25th, promises to be an extraordinary experience for everyone—couples, date nights, groups of friends, and families alike. Completely free and now in its 36th year, the Midwest Salute to the Arts stands out for its commitment to showcasing the beauty and diversity of art.
Featuring up to 100 artists from across the nation, the festival offers attendees the unique opportunity to meet the creators and watch as they bring their art to life.
The “Salute” has become an annual family event for many of our patrons. Over the years we have watched young artists whose love of art began in our Children’s Gallery and Creation Station grow into loyal patrons who now bring their own children and introduce them to art and its appreciation.
36th Anniversary
This wonderful event would not be possible without the support of our sponsors and our community. Over 300 volunteers have helped to create the Magic that is The Midwest Salute to the Arts, a favorite amongst our artists. Our all-volunteer Arts Council spends countless hours making the event run seamlessly. Without the support of the City of Fairview Heights and the dedication of the City officials
and employees this annual show would not be possible. We cannot adequately express our appreciation for each and every one of you. We are thrilled that you have chosen to spend some time with us. We know that you will enjoy the festival atmosphere, exhibits, shopping and activities. Again, welcome to Moody Park and the City of Fairview Heights.
We thank you for your support! - The Midwest Salute Arts Council Art for Everyone, Art Everyday
“Our mission is to provide a successful forum to bring art to the region and promote art appreciation, while helping to impact art lovers in our city and surrounding area”
LETTER FROM THE MAYOR
36th Annual Midwest Salute to the Arts!
As the Mayor of Fairview Heights, it is my honor to welcome all of you to the “36th Annual Midwest Salute to the Arts”.
The Salute to the Arts is one of the oldest and longest running art shows in the Midwest.
While you are in our city, in addition to enjoying the amazing fine arts created by craftsman and leaders in their field, we invite you to enjoy other amenities that Fairview Heights has to offer.
Our city truly offers something for everyone. There are seven parks, our REC complex and an abundance of restaurants and shopping areas. Whether it is an enjoyable breakfast, a sweet treat, midday or evening meal, or shopping for that special gift or something for yourself you can find it in our city. If you plan to stay at one of our many hotels throughout our city, we hope that you have a pleasant stay. On behalf all of our elected officials, local businesses, residents and myself, we thank you for taking time to come out and enjoy this year’s Midwest Salute to the Arts.
Sincerely,
Mark T. Kupsky, Mayor
City of Fairview Heights
How did a little city in Southwestern Illinois become the site of a Nationally Recognized Art Festival?
It started 30-plus years ago when former alderman, Gene Ellerbusch, visited the Mystic, Connecticut, Outdoor Art Festival and realized that Fairview Heights, Illinois, might be able to present a similar outdoor event. The City Council appointed Mrs. Billy McLemore as head of a committee to explore the possibility. The project had begun.
Mystic was revisited, and other art fairs were contacted, including the renowned Festival of the Masters in Orlando, Florida. When their search was finished, it became apparent that Fairview Heights had the resources and the spirit to present such an event. The decision was made – let’s do it!
The Midwest Salute to the Masters was established with the goal of combining the community involvement of the Mystic show with the ultra-high standards of the Orlando “Masters” show. After much hard work and untold hours of planning, the first Midwest Salute to the Masters was held on the weekend of Oct. 1 and 2, 1988. It was received with both critical and popular acclaim.
Today, the show is known as the Midwest Salute to the Arts. The all-volunteer staff continues to work toward the common goal of presenting one of the premier art festivals in the country.

Donations to Midwest Salute to the Arts are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. The Midwest Salute to the Arts is a NonProfit Organization under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. P.O. Box 2032 Fairview Heights IL, 62208

ROBERT CORNMAN 2023 MIDWEST SALUTE TO THE ARTS COUNCIL CHOICE AWARD WINNER
I consider myself an abstract expressionist trying to touch the observer with visual language. The art is set with rich vibrant colors and evolves with multiple layers of texture and patterns. With a wash in color, depth and a collage of mixed media is used in my abstracts to bring life to each piece. Being influenced with action painting and the spontaneous or smeared flow of color helps me focus on bold strokes. I experiment with different styles to
take on a visibility and an understanding to bring comfort to the viewer. Color constantly surrounds us but many people take them for granted. Abstract art is very much the expression of ideas concerning the spiritual, the unconscious and the mind. Think of my work as maintaining a balance between chaos and control as well as the paintings being a process rather than a product.
