West Central is looking for young adults aged 14 to 24 to help line them up on a path for future prosperity through its Young Professionals Program. Employers also benefit greatly from the Young Professionals Program because it helps them find the young talent they too often are lacking as well as helps prepare the next generation of workforce “Our Young Professionals Program supports our future workforce by placing young adults on the path to achieving lifelong success, says Jonathan Eppley Communication and Marketing Manager with Michigan Works! West Central Through this program, we are able to reduce youth unemployment, close equity gaps, address talent shortages and remove barriers to employment for a lot of young adults. Guided by a Talent Specialist, each young adult enrolled in the program will develop a unique plan to meet their goals and personal development. There are a number of ser vices available to help them reach these aspirations. They include but are not limited to, the following: A virtual job shadow program that offers participants cash for completing online job search and job readiness activities. • Training funding assistance for short-term training such as CNA, CDL, phlebotomy, welding and more There is also financial assistance available for education leading to a two-year associate degree or a four-year bachelor degree • Work Experience: Participants can get paid to gain real-world experience in a variety of industries. Leadership development. • Adult mentoring Alternative secondar y school offerings. According to Eppley, participating in the Young Professionals Program can help participants boost their career when entering the job market. West Central ser vice center With the help of a Talent Specialist, Nagel discovered the YouthWorks Program which provided him with invaluable work experience His confidence bolstered Nagel successfully completed an inter view process that landed him a job with Lake County’s seasonal parks & recreation crew This provided him the opportunity to get out in nature and contribute to the preser vation of breathtaking natural spaces within the HuronManistee National Forest. Emboldened by his YouthWorks experience Nagel has since returned to school and is far better equipped to navigate the local job market. Weber meanwhile found her way to the Michigan Works! West Central Office in Baldwin determined to leave her job as a car detailer to follow her dream to become a pet groomer With an extensive histor y of volunteer work at a local animal shelter and as a dog lover with several fur pals of her own, Weber knew pet grooming was her true calling Michigan Works! West Central set Weber up with a volunteer position to help her learn the business at Kanine Classy Kutz, a pet salon in Idlewild Under the expert tutelage of owner Kendra Brooks, Weber began learning the intricacies of the dog-grooming business.
