I am the pastry chef at LuciAnna’s at our new location at 1020 West Delmar in Godfrey. I was working at Best Western as the sous chef part-time. I loved being a chef so much that I came here full-time when I was offered the job.

WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT SKILLS YOU THINK A BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL IN YOUR INDUSTRY SHOULD HAVE?

Patience. Every recipe is different and you can’t rush things. Everything is home-made and you can’t rush baking.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

When I was 16, I worked for Pete Allen at the Boat at the Riverbend as the Mater ‘d. Pete was wonderful to work for.

DO YOU HAVE A MENTOR OR SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN THE GREATEST INFLUENCE TO YOU?

Kenny Jankoski at the Best Western. He was

one of the first people to open my eyes to the food industry.

HOW ARE YOU INVOLVED IN YOUR COMMUNITY?

I am involved with Jacoby Arts Center, Pocket Park and the Farmers Market.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?

Kayaking, biking, hiking with my wife and dog. My dog is a pit bull who looks like the dog Petey in the Little Rascal movies with a ring around his eye.

New Orleans. Our anniversary is on Halloween and we plan to return this year. We love the fresh food.

I own Fetching Pet Company at 710 S Main St #1817, in Troy.

Being able to pivot and change as new science come out about dogs. It is important to learn to read dogs behavior. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

Mom owned a dog bathing shop in New Baden and I worked with her.

Not one person. I am in a bunch of dog training and dog owner business groups. I find that the people in those groups help and advise me.

Communication, compassion, reason and negotiation. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

I worked at Eckert’s Orchard in Grafton. I made funnel cakes. I loved them before I worked there. Not so much anymore.

Travis Tarrant. He is always there to coach and advise me. He is open to my ideas about what I want to do. My other mentor is my older sister, Jennifer Graklanoff. She is 12 years older than me. She’s driven and determined and has always been an inspiration.

I have always been involved and supported a variety of community events.

Compassion and ability to communicate. We work with cats, dogs and clients who are worried about their animals.

I worked in the kitchen of a restaurant in my home town of Arcola, IL.

I would have to say my parents. They never pushed me but they always supported me. They were always there when I needed them., They always wanted my dreams to come true not theirs.

With three young boys am not as involved as I would like to be but we do support 5A’s and Barks in the Park.

My hobbies include reading, attending musicals at The Fox Theater, attending soccer games at City Park with my family and occasionally making stained glass pieces.

Great communication. Have to understand what people want. You also need hand/eye coordination.

RBGA and I like to think that I help people in our community get to places on time because of the watches I fix.

I skateboard, play basketball, run and I want to do a marathon in the future. I love to get involved in everything.

I am a Financial Advisor and co-owner with Robert Diaz of Confluence Wealth Management.

Relationship building. You are dealing with people’s most important assets. Also, you need technical knowledge about tax laws, estate planning, portfolio management and retirement planning.

I was 15 and worked at Jimmy Johns. I was too young to make sandwiches so I cleaned a lot of bathrooms.

My parents had the greatest influence in my life. My Dad is a physician and he taught me his work ethic. He is the hardest working man I know. He also taught me how to prioritize. My mother taught me patience. She is the sweetest person I know and everyone loves her. She showed me how to have compassion and empathy for others.

HOW ARE YOU INVOLVED IN YOUR COMMUNITY?

I am Evangelical School Board, Asbury Village Board, Alton Memorial Health Services Board and I coach my son’s soccer team.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?

My personal hobbies have been put on hold with three kids but I still play golf once in a while, I garden, and we go to sporting events especially the Cardinals and the Blues.

WHERE’S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE YOU’VE EVER TRAVELED?

It’s a toss-up. Australia and Amsterdam. We went to Amsterdam for our honeymoon. Even though it’s a big city it is so quiet. Everyone has a bike and there is very little traffic making noise.

Lisa Phillipson. She was a previous boss at Hospice of Southern Illinois. She was just awesome. Teresa Collins at Senior Services Plus. Senior Services was my first professional job for two years. I left but returned three years later. I have learned more and more from Teresa. She is empathetic, compassionate and so much more.

I belong to the Upper Alton Association, North Alton-Godfrey Business Council, Older Adult Health Committee, Riverbend Rotary, Madison County Triad, Alton Digital Equity task force, Board of Directors of the YWCA, Coordinated Response team, I coach volleyball and softball.

At 16 I worked at Josephines. I bussed and washed dishes and cleaned. Then I worked at My Just Desserts in Alton. I always loved the delicious desserts at both places!

I have been self-employed my whole life. My first job was as a paperboy for the Alton Telegraph. I delivered the paper every morning and collected once a month.

My grandfather Thomas Azinger. He was a genuine individual who always helped people. I learned how to be the man I am today from him. Nothing was ever a problem, he always said, “we can work that out.” My father who worked form McDonnell-Douglas. From an early age he had me looking at the stock section of the paper. We would track McDonnell-Douglas stock together. Don Clark and Karen McGarvey were my mentors in the business I am in now. They led, guided and taught me to be an entrepreneur and this business. All four taught me to treat people like I wanted to be to be treated.

I am involved with the Zion Lutheran Church, I am a soccer coach, I am a part of the Glen/Ed Soccer Assn., RBGA. I have had a US Soccer National D license since 2007. I have been on many boards over the years.

Hobbies come and go when you have three small kids but anything outdoors works for me. Also, soccer and fishing.

Yosemite National Park and Brazil. I love the beaches and culture.

I am an angel mom. I did have two children who have passed away.

Fresh out of high school I moved away and did one year at Columbia college Chicago art school to pursue filming documentaries, but sadly dropped out due to my own mental health battles. I completed one year of general education courses. I received a unit secretary certification. I spent the following years as a student of life. But in 2016, after receiving my own help, I found my calling as a peer/ recovery /residential /crisis support specialist. I attended continuing education courses concerning mental health and substance use. I have received training and certifications for trauma informed care, crisis intervention, residential case management, peer support, recovery-oriented services, medication monitoring, motivational interviewing, and group therapy.

I own Gypsydaze at 911A Milton Road in Alton, a retail store that features art and is a world of wanderlust and eclectic treasures. I need a bigger sign because we just moved and few people know where we are now. I am looking for another job in either social work or something creative.

My late grandmother owned a business called “The Donut Shop” in East St. Louis where our family does so much for the community. Professionally, we do a lot for the children and families in our community.

I write poetry, participate in the kid’s sports, fund raise, spend time with the family and every year on my grandfather’s birthday we have a family reunion. He is currently 97.
