Without exception, we have found the attention to all aspects of care to be beyond our expectations. Particularly rewarding was the focus on not only the personal care matters but the genuine effort to understand and support the mental attitude towards my wifes illness and encourage the gradual return to more aspects of life, for example using massage and cosmetics to raise levels of self-esteem. We have seen at first-hand strong leadership in the detail given to the training of carers, at the same time giving them scope to develop their own initiatives. Catch Joe on BHBN Radio for Requests from the Solihull Hospital Fridays @ 5pm
Joe :)
Hello, I’m Joe Kennard. I am the Solihull Hospital Request Presenter
Age: 26
Occupation: Theatre Assistant and Van Driver.
How did I hear about BHBN? I wanted to get involved in radio and found BHBN through a google search.
Tell us about your show... Every week I visit Solihull Hospital and get some song requests from patients and staff at the hospital, usually 10 or so. I love this part of the week and I’ve met some real characters. I then head off to the BHBN studios at the QE, put together the show, decide on a running order and then present the show live on air across the hospital trust.
What would your 3 desert island discs be?
Baba O’Riley - The Who. I just love this song, the first time I ever heard it I was amazed by every section. That opening is just pure magic. Atomic- Blondie - This one is an epic, easy to sing along to and I love the guitar and bass work in this one. When I saw Blondie in concert this was the song that got everyone going.
LA Woman - The Doors. Well another long song from me! Just listen to this one and it takes you on a real journey. On a personal note this is a song that my dad covers in his band and every year we head off to the Upton Blues Festival where he plays. This song is the special moment in the set when everything connects together between band and audience. One of my favourite moments in the year every year.
What’s the best thing about BHBN? Great culture, everyone is so friendly and willing to help.
Your best moment at BHBN? The second song on my first show. I was so nervous having to do my opening speech and introduce the first song request but very relived that it had gone to plan and I was now in control.
And finally, your most embarrassing
moment at BHBN? I think the best is yet to come on that one!

Catch Kira on BHBN Radio Wednesdays @ 4pm for BHBN New Country with Dave & Sundays @ 2pm
Kira x
Hello, I’m Kira Hughes. I present Kids Time with Kira on BHBN for the Childrens Wards.
Age: 25 Occupation: Student/ Wetherspoons/ associate.
Tell us about your show…
My show is produced for the Children’s wards around Birmingham Hospitals. Kids Time with Kira includes the latest charts, pop hits, Disney and film singalongs as well as a ‘Toddler Time’. I aim to brighten up their days with all their favourite music and getting listeners involved by taking their requests and dedications, so their favourites are played.
- Bon Jovi – ‘New Jersey’! Bon Jovi is the music influence I grew up listening to which gave me the love music and lyrics. Introducing me to many other rock bands in all genres, but 80’s rock always being my favourite. - Kip Moore – ‘Wild Ones’ I find this album is a great, with a mix of both soft and upbeat country, that you can zone out and chill to or dance about and sing to. - Cher – Greatest hits – For me Cher is Pop Queen, with the best feel good music to sing and dance along too. From early music in the 60’s with Sonny to her classics like ‘Believe’.
What’s the best thing about being part of BHBN? Being surrounded with people that have the same passion, love and excitement for music just as much as I do.
Which celebrity inspires you and why? Bon Jovi inspires me the most, I grew up listening to their music and found deeper meanings in their lyrics. They inspire so much I got the lyrics “Stick to your guns” and “Aim from the heart” tattooed from the song Stick to your guns off the New Jersey album as I found meaning in these lyrics; to stand up for myself and what I believe in as well as to always to do the things I love.
Your best moment at BHBN and your most embarrassing moment at BHBN?
Definitely being nominated for HBA’s Best Newcomer Award. My most embarrassing moment would have to be the first mistake I made… when I introduced ‘Rock around the clock’ as ‘Rock around the Christmas tree’… in February!
