p r eface This Twelfth Edition of Hot Line® Antique Tractor Guide is published alphabetically by manufacturer, then in order by model. Each manufacturer's section has specifications and serial numbers on antique tractors, crawler tractors, combines, corn heads and grain heads plus actual auction and retail pricing from the last 12 months, located in the back of this guide. Also in the back is a brief description and history on threshing machines dating from the mid 1800s through the 1930s, plus tractor color history and paint color codes. We at Hot Line Guides Division have attempted to assemble the most accurate information available to us. We are aware that some of our readers are experts on their specific tractor or brand. If and when mistakes or omissions are found, we would greatly appreciate the help of our readers’ knowledge to correct our data. Please call, write or email to inform us of any incorrect or missing information. This book will be re-evaluated, updated and will become better with your help. We hope you will mention Hot Line® Antique Tractor Guide as your source for pricing and information. 22

Advertising Advertising located on the covers and front glossy pages. Antique Tractor Guide model numbers are not listed in any particular order, not oldest to newest, nor by any size, instead they are listed alphabetically first, then numerically second. This aids in a faster and easier ability to look up a particular model by the novice or the pro. In the comment line where it states... other versions avail= other versions available. This means the model was also available as... narrow front, wide front, orchard, high clearance, industrial, rice field, standard, row crop, general purpose, special, 3 wheel center, 3 wheel offset, 4 wheel, etc. The specifications for these other versions would be the same, in most instances. Weight for each model varies greatly depending on whether ballast was added or not, and if the tractor was weighed with the operator or not. The data found in this book is the most accurate that could be found using our available resources. Some of the models are not complete because the information that is missing is not available, or very little is known about some of the models. Dates will vary depending upon who interprets the data. Luckily, there is always someone out there who knows more or has more experience with a particular model of tractor. We hope if you do find errors or omissions, that you let us know at 800-673-4763. Thank you for choosing Antique Tractor Guide as your source for specifications and pricing. 800-673-4763

Allis-Chalmers Company
T
he Allis Chalmers Company was formed when four midwestern machinery companies merged in 1901. These four, Edward P. Allis and Company, Fraser and Chalmers, Gates Iron Works, and the Dickson Manufacturing Company, were soon supplemented by the purchase of the Bullock Electrical Manufacturing Company. The Allis Chalmers tractor line was introduced in 1914. Several smaller manufacturers were eventually bought out, including Monarch, Advance-Rumely, and later, Gleaner. Allis-Chalmers made history in 1929 by introducing its Model U equipped with pneumatic tires. Scorned at first, the rubber tire became the industry norm. Allis again in 1933 made history with its Model WC. This versatile row-crop unit was the first tractor to use the square engine design. The WC was extremely popular, with over 178,000 units sold. Allis continued to show its design expertise when it produced the WD and WD 45. Both were very popular, and touted as super-versions of the WC. In 1985, Allis Chalmers was purchased by Deutz-Fahr and, in 1992, a newly formed company called AGCO took over production.

International Harvester Company
T
he formation of the International Harvester Company was both a joining of fierce competitors and an acquisition of numerous smaller operations. The McCormick Company was well known for its reapers, dating back to 1831. The Deering Company began selling Marsh Harvesters and several types of binders in 1873. In 1902, the International Harvester Company joined McCormick & Deering, as well as incorporating a vast number of smaller machinery and equipment companies. Each of the two major companies maintained their own product lines until the International Harvester Farmall tractor was introduced in 1924. The Farmall line was extremely popular and reliable, and stayed in production for many years. The International Harvester Company merged with J.I.Case in 1985 and those two manufacturers, along with Stieger, became known as Case I.H. in 1995.

tractor paint color history Allis Chalmers According to history, Harry Merritt, Tractor Division Manager, was visiting California in the late 20s and saw acre upon acre of blooming wild poppies. He could see orange for miles. Harry brought some poppies back to Milwaukee and had the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company try to match the color. Merritt wanted his tractors painted poppy orange. Allis Chalmers made a series of color tests with different backgrounds. The Persian Orange color was adopted in 1928. The 1929 model U was the first of a long line of tractors to have the Persian Orange paint. Case Case restyled their whole range of tractors in 1939, even the color changed from gray to a Flambeau Red. The beginning of the Flambeau Desert Sunset Era started with the 400 series tractors (1955-1957). W.G. Thompson, plant manager, liked the Flambeau Red chassis and the cream/yellow sheet metal. He commented that it looked like a desert sunset and the name stuck. The color change was so successful that the 300 and 600 model tractors also adopted this same color scheme. Case used this color scheme for all agricultural and utility products until 1974. Caterpillar In 1931, an inner-office memo read, “Beginning Monday, December 7th, all Caterpillar tractors and all Caterpillar road machines shipped from the factories will be painted Hi-Way Yellow. Trademarks and trimmings are black. The story goes that a committee studied the color matter extensively, and decided on orange with black and told the Manufacturing Department that this was what they wanted. The Manufacturing Department refused, so the committee suggested aluminum. The Manufacturing Department tried aluminum and had a lot of trouble, so that was also refused. The committee then said yellow. It was tried, was a success, and became known as Caterpillar Yellow. Cockshutt Red ones or Green ones? It was Cockshutt’s intention that the Oliver green tractors be shipped to the Brantford plant and reshot with Cockshutt Red with yellow detailing. Cockshutt literature for these Oliver-built tractors depicts them in green with red detailing throughout the 1930s. The red with yellow Cockshutt paint job was not depicted until a 1940 March brochure. The maple leaf decal appeared in the early 1940s with the Model 60 debut.

THRESHING MACHINES
History of Threshing Manufacturers .

1831, Buffalo-Pitts thresher, was sold by International Harvester Company, but built by Buffalo Pitts Company in Buffalo, New York, by brothers Hiram and John Pitts. They received the credit for manufacturing the first threshing machine. In 1831, they built a “Ground Hog thresher, which consisted of an open wood raddle chain, which carried the grain from the cylinder, permitting the grain and chaff to fall to the ground. In 1834, they patented their first thresher, which had a built-in grain separator. They manufactured many threshers through out the years such as: Rival, Niagara, Hard Wheat Special and a Bean, Pea and Cow Pea thresher. Sometime during the 1930s repair parts only were available for these machines. In 1840s, Frick Company of Waynesboro, PA began building threshing machines. By 1884, the company was offering the Vibrating Thresher. By 1900, the company had launched its Landis Eclipse Thresher equipped with a sacking elevator. A smaller version of the Landis Eclipse was the Light Eclipse, which had all the same design features as the Landis but was small in size, making it ideal for the smaller farmer. By 1913, Frick introduced its Waynesboro Eclipse design for farmers wanting to do their own threshing. Also in 1913, Frick came out with its improved Frick Thresher, designed with a stacker and also could be fitted with a self-feeder. In 1930, the company moved toward its growing refrigerating business, and left the farm equipment manufacturing business entirely. 1842, J.I. Case Threshing Machine Company began building threshers. By the 1850s, the Case Sweepstakes threshers were on the market. In the 1870s Case built the Eclipse thresher. In 1880, J.I. Case introduced its famous Ironsides Agitator, a new vibrator design. Production of the Agitator continued into the earlier 1900s. In 1904, Case came out with an all steel thresher. Many improvements were made in subsequent years, but the same basic design remained until Case suspended production of the threshers in 1953. In 1848, Nichols & Shepard Company of Battle Creek, MI began building small threshers. In 1858, they built a vibrator thresher that was an immediate success. In 1893, Nichols & Shepard produced the New Flag Separator. In 1906, they introduced the Red River Special with an all-wood design. It was very popular and continued manufacturing it until 1922. With the coming of tractors, Nichols & Shepard made the Junior Red River Special in 1914. It was built in 22x36 and 28x46 inch sizes. In 517
