A WELCOME mESSAGE FROm THE SPOKESGNOmE We are glad to be back for the 2nd Annual Indy Shorts International Film Festival and, yes, I am still here! I guess I did a pretty stellar job as spokesgnome last year, so you will be seeing my face even more during this year’s Festival. Being spokesgnome allows me to bring my love of all things short and my genetic fondness of flowers together for Indy Shorts at Newfields. With more than $30,000 in cash prizes, craft beer, Academy Award®-qualifying films, workshops, panels, and our new event Indy Shorts Pride Stride in partnership with the Indianapolis LGBT Film Festival, this is bound to be the greatest event of the summer. Thank you to our staff and board of directors for their ongoing support throughout the year. And shoutout to our volunteers – film festivals could never survive without you. Visit IndyShorts.org to learn about this year’s films, events, and filmmakers, as well as view trailers, read synopses, interviews, and more. Follow us on social media and if you see me, be sure to take a selfie and share it using #IndyShorts!

JURIES Film Selection Process Submitted films are initially viewed by tiered screening committees. These committees are comprised of volunteer screeners, each of whom have taken a critical examination and have been hand-selected by Heartland Film staff. Screeners watch each submitted film in its entirety and complete a detailed online review. These reviews help Heartland Film’s programming staff determine the strongest submissions each year. Consisting of film professionals, academics, and critics, each jury ultimately selects the Grand Prize Winner within each category. Full bios can be found at IndyShorts.org.
