A significant chapter in the legacy of the Mitchell family draws to a close as they bid farewell to over two decades of ownership at the helm of the iconic Angourie Resort. The reins of this cherished establishment have now passed into the hands of a new owner, NRMA Parks and Resorts, marking a transition that reverberates through the region’s hospitality landscape.

NRMA Parks and Resorts’ Chief Executive Officer, Paul Davies, expressed the organization’s longstanding aspiration to integrate Angourie Resort into its esteemed portfolio. “The addition of Angourie Resort aligns seamlessly with our vision, especially in a sought-after holiday destination for our members,” Davies remarked, signalling an exciting new phase for the revered establishment.

Mitchell family, led by Mark and Linda Mitchell, embarked on a visionary quest to transform a triangular expanse ensconced in rainforest and nestled near the coastline into an upscale eco-resort. Linda Mitchell reflected on the family’s fervour and foresight that catalysed the resort’s inception in 2000, underscoring their collective commitment to crafting a distinguished getaway.

Architect Warren Flynn’s blueprints, in conjunction with Mark and Paul Mitchell’s coordination, fuelled the realization of this vision. The project’s inception witnessed the collective effort of local artisans like Steve Lokic, John Batchelador, Rob Young, and Grub Brotherson, instrumental in materializing the first phase comprising 34 Two Bedroom Villas, a reception building, pool complex, kids’ play area, conference rooms, and essential infrastructure.

The resort’s evolution continued with a second phase culminating in 2003, unveiling a restaurant, Day Spa, expansive conferencing rooms, and 32 spa apartments, culminating in the family’s dream come to fruition.

The Mitchell family’s unwavering dedication spanned multiple generations, with Mark and Mathew Mitchell steering the Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort for the last decade, while Linda Mitchell and her daughter Danielle Oppes meticulously nurtured Angourie Resort to become a pinnacle of North Coast tourism. Danielle’s journey commenced at the resort at the age of 15, embarking on a Tourism traineeship that laid the groundwork for her eventual rise to the role of General Manager.

Linda Mitchell effusively praised Danielle’s astuteness, resilience, and innovation, acknowledging her integral role in elevating Angourie Resort’s status.
