June sees the end of Term 2 for the Rainbow Beach Learning Community with our young people enjoying a wide range of activities including: a visit from the Bunnings team who helped us make two sturdy wooden and metal tables; cooking pizza muffins with Gabriella from the Tin Can Bay CWA; Spanish lessons with Aimee: emotional regulation sessions with Sherry; a visit from Isla and Paula of ANDARRA Wildlife Carers (who brought some very cute joeys for us to drool over) at our recent open day in conjunction with the Gympie Homeschooling Network; an excursion to a dairy farm at Goomboorian where the children had the opportunity to milk a beautiful Jersey cow, and Goomboorian Gold bee hives and honey factory with lunch at Sublime Brewery; plus our amazing camp at Aldershot reported on in the June Chappy Chat.
With all of these activities plus regular art lessons with Rainbow Beach ocean artist Mo Riggs and visits to the beach on Thursday afternoons with Sarah and Dean from Rainbow Beach Learn to Surf where they get the chance to snorkel, bodyboard, build sandcastles and make dams, they are ready for the holidays!
In Term 3 we are looking at creating a Cooloola Coast Guide for Families under the leadership of Kerry and Tyla that will help visitors learn about the best places to visit and activities in the area from a child’s point of view. We are hoping to get this publication printed and have it for sale in local shops and if any local businesses are interested in advertising, please let us know.
Other activities will include a ‘come and try day’ at the Tin Can Bay Golf Club, a fishing day at Inskip Point where we will be inviting families from the Gympie Homeschooling Network, an opportunity to meet Councillor Jess Milne from the Gympie Council, Gareth and Kimberlee visiting from the Gympie Library with some of their fabulous toys, Elisa will be sharing about her home country and helping us cook amazing Italian food, and Spanish, sewing, and emotional regulation sessions will continue.
2023 Bush Dance – mark Saturday 16 September in your diary!
We would love to see you at the 2023 Bush Dance which is happening at the Community Centre on Saturday 16 September, again featuring Flashjack who helped make last year’s event so much fun.
Dancing with band members calling out the different moves will happen between 6pm and 8pm, with hot and cold food available from 5pm and a delicious supper from 8pm to 9pm. Tickets are available from the Community Centre office or from Tyla on 0432 651 722 at $40 for a family, $15 for adults, and $10 for children.
Grazing platters will also be available and can be pre-ordered from Tyla with platters for 2-3 people costing $25 and platters for 4-6 people costing $35.
Community Pantry
The Community Pantry is covered for insurance and governance by Pindari Life Ltd – a local charity that supports many activities including the King’s Cup coffee van in Gympie, camps, and outdoor activities for young people at risk. We greatly appreciate their wisdom and organisational skills.
We are distributing around 40 hampers worth between $50 & $60 each fortnight for only $10 to anyone who needs one – a pension or healthcare card is not required. Regular items include fresh fruit, veggies, and pantry staples such as cereal, pasta, and tinned veggies from Foodbank, and also a huge variety of items from Woolworths Cooloola that are end of line or near their best before date.
To order a hamper for yourself or someone who needs a helping hand, contact us by text to 0413 135 867 or hop onto the Rainbow Beach Community Pantry Facebook page and send us a message.
Rainbow Beach Goes to the Movies!
On Saturday 12 August, the Community Pantry will be running the second CoolaFlix night at the Community Centre, featuring ‘Homeward Bound – the Incredible Journey’ originally released in 1993. We will be selling popcorn, hot and cold drinks, lollies and yummy treats. This movie is well-known as one of the best family movies of all time and features the voices of Michael J Fox and Sally Field. Bring your family along for a wonderful evening that will help raise funds so that we can continue to help local families.
Congratulations to Fiona and the Rainbow Beach Community Centre team for heading up this initiative of a monthly movie to enjoy without the expense of travelling into Gympie.
