Late night swimming and marshmallows

Late night swimming and Marshmallows By: Carina It was a long 4 hour drive. We got there late at night so it was pitch dark. Even if my eyes were closed I can tell we were here, I couldn’t smell the pollution or the stuffy air, I can smell the pine trees, fresh lake water and the burning wood from the neighbors. We quickly unload our stuff into the house. I brought Mila and Paget to my family lake house. This was my summer house that I went to every summer and sometimes in the winter for skiing. It was where my childhood memories were and I was so excited to bring my friends. There was so much I wanted to do, go swimming, kayaking, row boating, sailing, tubing, going in rides on the motor boat. I have a lot of boats. I’ve always wanted a perfect summer vacations with my friends like the ones in the movies. I hoped that this would be like that, I wanted this vacation to be memorable and so I would never forget. The lake house had 2 floors. The first floor had a bunch of rooms including the bunk bed room, the living room and the kitchen. Upstairs only had one bed room, this room was always my favorite because it was the most cozy to me. So we decided to stay upstairs there were 3 bed so we all chose one. The night that we got there we had been sitting in a car for hours and wanted to go swimming. So after we unpacked and decided which bed we would stay in we got our bathing suits and ran outside. There wasn’t a hesitation we ran on to the doc and jumped off in to water. In the dark, we all raced to the floating doc about a couple yards away. We sat looking at the moon and just talked while sitting on the floating doc. We climbed up on the doc and jumped off, as I show off my diving which I had learn that summer. I showed them where the beach was from here and I pointed to other places around the lake like “lily pad cove” this was where I usually liked to go fishing because of all the lily pads and flowers. After a while the water got colder and colder and me and Paget got paranoid about fishes swimming by our feet so we swam back. One night we went over to the beach next door by walking through the woods. It wasn’t quite like a beach more like sand and the lake water but it looked more or less the same. We brought over the marshmallows, fire supplies and sparklers and what ever else we needed. The first thing I did as I feel the sand between my toes is just fall into the ground, the sand surrounds me and as I look up and I could see the stars were shining brighter then back in Boston, for some odd reason there aren’t as much starts in the city. This I didn’t know why but that was one of my favorite parts of being at the lake house. The stars here are like a bunch of sparkling diamonds in the sky, and sometimes if you look for a long time you can see shootings stars. After a while I got up and I looked around for a place we could start the fire. We found a stone fire place built on the edge of the beach. It was perfect! We looked around for sticks and branches for the fire. I tried to make the fire but since I’m not too skilled for that I let Mila and Paget make it. The fire took a while to spark up and light, we all tried couple times. Lighting the match, throwing it in, over and over. Finally the wood lit up into a huge bonfire! We found “perfect” sticks to roast marshmallows with. We had chocolate and graham crackers to make smores. We put our marshmallows over the fire, rotating the stick. “It has to be perfect” I thought as I tried to get my marshmallow to be the a golden like color. Not paying attention to it the marshmallow it caught on fire. I blew out the fire, turning my perfect golden marshmallow to pitch black. Mila likes burnt marshmallows so I gave her mine. After a while Mila and I started to do cartwheels and Mila’s failed attempt of teaching me to do roundoffs or back handsprings. After a while of marshmallow making and sparklers we went back home and went upstairs to bed. I had the best week of the summer with my friends. I think this vacation was really close to the ones in the movies. It meant a lot to me that I could go on a vacation with my friends, it meant a lot to me and I was always remember it.
