Ski Club Madeleine

Ski Club The bus departs the school at 2:30. Off we go to Wachusett. The bus ride to Wachusett is an hour and fifteen minutes. On the bus ride, we all listen to music, play games, play around on our phones, and eat candy. Each trip an eighth grader brings a party sized candy pack to share with the others. It’s always a blast! As we arrive beneath the mountain, my friends and I arrange us into groups for skiing, because if you ski alone and get caught, you will not be allowed to go to the following trip. Once you get to the mountain, you can either go forth into the Granite Room, Rentals, or the Main Lodge. Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders from Heath meet in the Granite Room which is in the middle of the Main Lodge. When we are all dressed and ready to go! When we are finished, we wait for our buddies and gather our equipment outside. “Time to get on the lift!” I say as I smell the sweet waffles and hear the squeakiness from the chairs on the lifts. Right when we get on the lift, we settle down and lower the safety bar. When we approach the end of the lift, we pull up the safety bar and get ready to glide off the smooth, icy snow. Since snowboarders have to buckle one foot in, the skiers just wait and talk somewhat patiently. Then we all start heading down the mountain as if we were born doing this job. Sometimes we stop three-fourths of the way down to stop at the Cider Shack and get some of my favorite chocolate M&M fudge. I sometimes even get apple dumplings since they are just to die for. Right as you enter this cute, little building you feel as if you are in a dessert paradise. The smell of apple dumplings, chocolate chip cookies, doughnuts, waffles, and all sorts of fudge fill the open space in the lodge. Then, we continue to the bottom and do a couple of more ski runs straight through. We must stop at 6:30 because that is check in time. Everyone from Heath must come to the Granite Room at this time to check in with teachers and make sure everyone is here and safe. You are also welcome to eat dinner now, which we mostly always do since we haven’t eaten since the bus ride at 2:45. After that, we go back outside and go on some more ski runs.

When it is about 9:10, we stop skiing, return equipment if we rented it, and then quickly get our bags to load onto the bus. When we stop earlier, we go to the food court and get A LOT of candy and fudge to last and entertain us on the way home. The rides home feel shorter, since they are a ton of more fun. “We are about twenty minutes away from Heath, please call your parents.” Mr. Durant says. As each of the students call their parents, you just hear various voices. Most times, I will try to relax and read a book, if Ben, Colin, or Chris doesn’t take it. If they do take it I obviously know its one of them and try to find it. Emma and Colin will fool around with Seth and then Jonny will just chill and listen to music. Fia will be listening to music and playing on her iPod, then Eli and I will just talk and snapchat Paget and Shira. While we’re all busy, Chris is just watching us all doing our own thing. “Chhhhhkkkkhhhhh” the bus gets to a halt and we have arrived at school. Everyone is sad to leave the bus and go home but I’m always thinking, “don’t be sad, there is another trip next week. I’ll also see everyone at school.” As we get off the bus we keep an eye out for our parents and get our bags, snowboards, skis, and poles from the compartment under the bus. “Alright, you guys got a ride?” A teacher says just incase they need to wait for any stragglers. My sister and I enter the car and wave to our friends as far as we can see them. We are sad, but we always keep a positive attitude for the upcoming trip.
