J.D. Right: J.D. proposing to poison Heather Chandler to Veronica

Left: J.D. played by Christian Slater and Veronica.

J.D. is the catalyst to making Westerburg High “a better place”, with no social hierarchies, (by killing off the popular people). “Heathers has the courage to sympathize with a psychopath who exposes how dangerous it can be when fads and gossip are more influential than basic decency” (Zilberman). What draws audiences to J.D. is his anti-hero actions that at some points are hard to watch. This stems from his upbringing (his father works in demolition and it is hinted that he killed J.D.’s mother). He is also very possessive of Veronica and when she dumps him and his psychotic ploy to blow up the school, she assists in his suicide.
